00:02 Unlike college football,
00:04 where you schedule a tough game and lose,
00:06 nobody gets any credit for scheduling that tough game.
00:08 They just go, "Oh, you got a loss in that."
00:09 Congratulations.
00:10 That's why we have so much animosity here
00:12 from the final four teams
00:14 that are in the college football playoff.
00:15 But not the case in college basketball.
00:17 You get graded on, yes, if you win a quad one game,
00:20 but also at the strength of your schedule.
00:22 So we're getting these top 10 environments here
00:25 with the UConn Huskies
00:26 and also the North Carolina Tar Heels.
00:28 Yesterday in the Garden, in the Jimmy V Classic,
00:30 87 to 76 final, UConn was the victors over UNC.
00:35 And most people say, "Oh, that could be devastating."
00:36 Like, no, they play 30 plus games here.
00:39 Now coming after this, seven and two North Carolina,
00:42 eight and one UConn,
00:43 and UConn already coming off a game, Davis,
00:45 where they went to Fogg and to Kansas here,
00:48 and then showed up and said, "Big deal.
00:50 We'll go in the Garden here,
00:51 take on another top team and take them down."
00:53 I love to see this competition early in the season,
00:55 getting these basketball teams ready
00:57 for conference play coming in January.
00:59 - Absolutely.
01:01 I mean, this is the benefit of basketball,
01:04 which is that you can just play more games
01:05 over a shorter period of time.
01:08 If college football, if they had,
01:10 if you could play, if it was possible
01:12 for the human body to play 25 games in a season,
01:15 you would see more of Alabama schedules Clemson
01:19 as their out of conference opponent or whatever,
01:21 or you'd see Texas playing Ohio State
01:24 as a regular season matchup.
01:26 But because it's only limited to, what,
01:28 11 regular season games for most teams,
01:30 sometimes a little bit less,
01:31 sometimes a little bit more,
01:32 college football is so bizarre in that way.
01:35 You can't lose.
01:36 And sometimes, I mean, even as Florida State's showed us,
01:38 sometimes, even if you don't lose,
01:40 it's not gonna be enough at that stage of the season.
01:45 So I think that is probably one of the big
01:47 advertising points for college basketball right now,
01:49 which is that it's December 6th right now.
01:52 I am used to, you know, the way I grew up
01:55 is like teams are not playing anything serious right now.
01:58 This is the University of Kansas
02:00 playing against Alcorn State or whatever,
02:02 but that's not the way it works anymore.
02:04 And I think this has been like, I mean,
02:06 it's pretty cynical,
02:07 but it's like a very good marketing decision
02:09 from NCAA men's basketball
02:11 to have these really important games early on.
02:14 And like, I'm not used to paying attention to,
02:18 I grew up in Kansas, so everyone cares about,
02:20 you know, the Jayhawks men's basketball program.
02:23 I'm not used to knowing a name of the player
02:25 on those teams until after Christmas, right?
02:28 I don't know the best, you know,
02:29 I don't know the point guard is,
02:31 and that's not true this year
02:32 because they've already played two,
02:34 like relatively big games in the scheme of things.
02:37 And so I mean, yeah,
02:38 and this was an awesome game last night.
02:40 Like everyone on my Twitter timeline
02:42 was talking about UConn, North Carolina.
