00:05 If you're chasing Strava, forget it.
00:07 There's some quality bike riders around here and they take those for fun.
00:11 Spanning four counties with landscapes unique and challenging.
00:15 That's a good idea. I hope they've got one on the top as well.
00:18 The ultimate training ground.
00:20 You've got the best facilities in the world at the Velodrome and then roads like these to train on.
00:24 For some of the world's greatest cyclists.
00:26 How many Olympics is that now?
00:28 Seven.
00:29 A place with a strong heritage.
00:31 You've got people who have been coming here since before I was born.
00:34 Why are you still coming?
00:35 Just trying to cycle isn't it?
00:37 And an even stronger future.
00:39 And here it is. Probably the most advanced bike in the world.
00:42 So what makes the northwest of England a heartland?
00:48 Well it's a beautiful part of the world to ride a bike.
00:51 The roads are pretty quiet. Plenty of tough hills.
00:54 There's nowhere to hide on a slope like this.
00:57 There's certainly no slipstreaming is there?
00:59 Well that's right.
01:01 As you can see.
01:02 You've got flat, you've got hills, you've got Velodrome and gold medalists to train with.
01:08 It's a multi-adventure's dream really.
01:10 I've got all the different types of roads I could ever need to get fit and hone my skills.
01:14 You seem to have been climbing now for about three hours.
01:19 Yeah this is the time.
01:20 There's got to be a cafe somewhere around here.
01:21 You've got your own oven.
01:23 I have an oven. Here's one I baked earlier.
01:26 You've got two kids now and you're still just as competitive.
01:29 Why haven't you gone stale like the rest of us?
01:31 I think I've always just loved being competitive so I'm quite happy to keep pushing on.
01:37 We'll pick up just after one of us has a heart attack.
