00:02 As we dive through, the first four teams
00:05 that make up the college football playoff this season
00:08 all earn an opening round by Michigan one,
00:11 Washington two, Texas number three, Alabama number four.
00:16 Next year, Florida State would not miss
00:17 the college football playoff.
00:19 They would be in as the five seed hosting
00:22 the highest ranked group of five champion.
00:25 This year, that would be Liberty
00:26 who finished one spot ahead of the AAC champion SMU
00:31 because of their perfect 13 and 0 undefeated run
00:35 through CUSA.
00:37 Then at six, it would be Georgia
00:39 taking on the number 11 team that would be Ole Miss.
00:42 At seven, it's Ohio State taking on another conference foe
00:46 in number 10, Penn State.
00:48 And then the eight, nine matchup
00:49 would be Oregon and Missouri.
00:51 Those would be the 12 teams based off of this year's field
00:54 and an expanded college football playoff.
00:57 Joe, do you believe that this expanded 12 team format
01:00 based on this year's representatives
01:03 would be good for the sport?
01:04 - Yes, obviously in this year's scenario
01:06 with Florida State being left out,
01:08 they would have an opportunity
01:10 to win a national championship
01:11 with their backup quarterback and erase any doubt
01:14 whether the Noles should be in the college football playoff
01:17 or not.
01:18 It's unfortunate that this year it happens
01:20 where a power five conference champion
01:23 that's undefeated gets left out
01:24 because of the assumption that they wouldn't be competitive
01:27 in terms of a potential matchup against Michigan,
01:30 Alabama, Texas, or Washington.
01:33 It's great for college football.
01:34 Really is in regards to the tournament.
01:37 I understand it, the playoff atmosphere.
01:39 The one thing that I worry about is,
01:42 and I understand the thought process
01:44 that the regular season will matter more.
01:46 It's just that for me, there is no margin of error
01:48 in college football, right?
01:50 You start fast, you have an opportunity to win a title.
01:53 If you don't, well, guess what?
01:55 You can always get back.
01:56 The controversy is what drives the sport.
01:58 This is taking it out of the equation for the most part,
02:02 but I'm sure next year, Kev,
02:03 we'll be talking about not the top 12 teams,
02:06 but 13 through potentially 20, the teams that are left out.
02:10 - Yeah, so that's where I disagree, Joe.
02:12 I actually think we are now going to get more controversy
02:16 and mayhem than people actually know what to do with.
02:18 I guess the worry would be,
02:20 are people prepared to care about 25 teams
02:24 in college football?
02:25 Because the current format has taught people
02:27 to care about six teams.
02:29 I mean, people were hardly being able to handle eight teams,
02:32 right, going into that final Saturday.
02:35 But that is the change.
02:37 Again, more games will matter.
02:39 Yes, Georgia now, if they lose to Bama,
02:42 doesn't see their season end.
02:44 And I know people like that, that they cannot lose a game.
02:47 You basically start the season, it feels like,
02:49 with, all right, Georgia's in, Bama's in,
02:51 Ohio State's in, Michigan's in, right?
02:52 And I get that, but maybe not.
02:56 Maybe there will be a down year.
