00:00 The son of a Roti Chanai seller who died of a heart attack in an emergency ward said his
00:06 father would still be alive if the hospital had not, for five hours, ignored repeated
00:12 pleas for help.
00:14 Satya Chandran, 29, said he kept asking for help hour after hour but was told that he
00:21 had to respect the queue as there were 17 people ahead of him.
00:25 He told FMT his father, Chandran Subramaniam, 51, was clutching his chest and screaming
00:31 in pain as they arrived at the hospital near midnight.
00:35 Satya said he pleaded with the nurses for help but was told the doctors were busy.
00:40 He barged into a consultation room to ask for help but staff members were busy talking
00:44 among themselves and he was scolded for coming in.
00:49 At around 5 am, his father was rushed to the red zone.
00:53 He said a doctor came and told him his father's heart had stopped beating and they were trying
00:57 to revive him.
00:59 Chandran was pronounced dead at 6.31 am.
01:03 Lawyer Shamshir Singh Thind, who is acting on behalf of the family, has sent a letter
01:08 of demand to the health ministry requesting an immediate investigation by an independent
01:12 panel.
01:14 The ministry has said it takes the complaint seriously and would investigate it thoroughly.
