00:00 Okay, first question. Who is someone that doesn't decide if they go in or out?
00:05 That's a prisoner. And today, you're gonna be a true detective solving some prisoner riddles.
00:20 Ready? Here's a task for you. Take a good look at these three houses. In one of them,
00:26 a person who recently escaped from prison resides. In which house do you think they live?
00:30 If they just escaped from prison, they're very alert and surely ready to flee immediately and
00:46 as fast as possible. Look at the way the cars are parked. Two are parked with the back facing the
00:52 road and one is pointing towards the street. If a car is parked pointing towards the street,
00:57 it's faster to drive out. So, it must be the runaway prisoner's house.
01:01 A prisoner has a chance to escape prison. He has a choice of two doors. Behind one,
01:07 there's freedom and the other one leads back to his cell. He doesn't know which is which.
01:12 In front of either door, there's a guard. One of them always lies and the other always tells the
01:18 truth. But again, he doesn't know which one is which. The prisoner can ask one question.
01:23 What question should he ask to get out? He should ask either guard. Is the lying guard in front of
01:39 the freedom door? If he says yes, there are two options. Either he's telling the truth or he's
01:45 the liar and so he stands next to the cell door. In any case, the prisoner should pick the other
01:50 door. If the guard says no, then it's either the truth and the door is then the freedom door. Or
01:56 it's a lie but it still remains that it's the freedom door. So, in a case of a no, the prisoner
02:02 should pick that door. A prisoner is trying to escape. He managed to leave the cell and found
02:07 an underground tunnel but it only led him to three doors. All of them didn't look safe.
02:12 Behind the first door, there were two guards who would see him and take him back to prison.
02:16 Behind the second door, there was a room full of lasers. Behind the third door,
02:22 there was a room with the floor full of broken glass. Which way is safer?
02:26 The prisoner should pick the last door. The floor is covered in broken glass
02:41 but he's wearing shoes so it can't cause him much harm.
02:44 Another prisoner is trying to escape and he almost succeeded. There are now three doors in front of
02:50 him. Behind one, there will be three hungry and angry dogs. Behind the second door, there will be
02:56 an explosion in five minutes. Behind the third door, there's a guard. Which door should the
03:01 prisoner pick to get out successfully? He should wait for five minutes until the explosion and then
03:17 use the second door to get out. Now, here's a logic puzzle. An inmate had a visitor. A guard
03:23 asked him who it was and he said, "I don't have any siblings. This man's father is my father's son."
03:29 So who visited the inmate?
03:31 Since the prisoner doesn't have any siblings, then "my father's son" is him himself.
03:47 And he is the father of the guest, so the guest is his son. An inmate got sick and now he has to
03:54 take pills to keep his illness under control and also not to infect anyone else. He got three pills
04:00 which he has to take every hour. How long will it take him to take all the pills? It'll only take
04:16 him two hours. One he will take immediately, another one after one hour, and the last one
04:21 after two hours.
04:25 Your friend, the best detective in the city, is on the line.
04:29 As he hangs up, you are left sitting on your bed, the phone in your hand,
04:40 staring into the darkness of your room. You have to deal with your first case already in the
04:45 morning. An anxious man rushes into your friend's office. "I work as a cashier in a clothing store.
04:51 Last night, I was the one to lock it up. As I was counting the money, the room suddenly went dark.
04:56 There was some problem with the light bulb. I climbed the table and grabbed it, but by doing it,
05:01 I burned my hand, jerked it back, fell to the floor, and lost consciousness. When I came to
05:07 my senses, the money was gone." You examine the room attentively and realize the man is lying.
05:13 What makes you think so?
05:14 [CLOCK TICKING]
05:24 The light bulb the cashier told you about is an LED one. Such light bulbs don't get hot.
05:29 Your first real case makes you hungry. You go to the nearest restaurant to get something to eat,
05:35 but as soon as you enter, you hear loud, angry voices. A waitress and a visitor are arguing.
05:40 "You also ordered chicken wings, and you have to pay for this dish."
05:44 It's the waitress. The visitor looks tired and sleepy.
05:48 "But I didn't. I haven't been here longer than an hour. Yes, I did doze off,
05:53 but it doesn't mean I don't remember my order." You can't help but step in.
05:58 "You know very well that this man couldn't have ordered chicken wings," you say.
06:02 "How did you figure it out?"
06:03 [CLOCK TICKING]
06:13 You spotted a note on the wall. It says, "The kitchen works till 1 p.m. today."
06:18 It's now 3 p.m. The man claims he's been there for an hour,
06:22 which means he came well after the kitchen was closed.
06:25 After the accident, you decide to have a meal at another cafe,
06:29 but as you come closer, you see a crying lady.
06:32 "I was going to cross the road when some woman grabbed my purse and disappeared.
06:36 I noticed her enter this cafe. Can you help me get my things back?"
06:40 You enter the cafe.
06:42 "Ah, that's my purse, right between those two women,
06:46 but I can't recognize the one who took it. I didn't have time to look at her attentively."
06:50 You don't need much time to figure out which woman is guilty.
06:53 [CLOCK TICKING]
07:02 It's the one on the left. The woman on the right has her left arm in a cast.
07:07 If she had taken the purse, she'd have put it on the right side of herself.
07:10 After such an eventful day, you're exhausted.
07:13 You fall asleep as soon as your head touches the pillow,
07:16 but you get woken up just a few hours later. Another day, another case.
07:21 "Oh, you're finally here." A man tied to a chair looks happy.
07:26 "Someone broke into my house this night, tied me, and stole all our valuables.
07:31 Our mailman came early in the morning to deliver newspapers.
07:35 He must have heard me shouting for help and called the police.
07:38 Luckily, all our stuff was insured,
07:41 but I hope to deal with this problem before my wife finds out about this."
07:45 You arrest the man for attempting insurance fraud. Why?
07:48 [CLOCK TICKING]
07:58 You paid attention that the newspapers were on the table in the hall,
08:01 not lying on the floor near the mail slot. Someone must have put them there.
08:06 It could only be the house owner or his wife, who was an accomplice.
08:10 After the police arrive, you leave the man's house and immediately receive a new call.
08:15 Mrs. Smith claims that her neighbor, Mrs. Miller, has stolen her laundry.
08:19 The woman says she hung the laundry in her backyard at 10 a.m.
08:23 And when she went out of the house two hours later, she saw Mrs. Miller putting it in her bag.
08:28 "I didn't do this. It's a lie." The other woman looks angry.
08:32 You look around and ask Mrs. Smith to go to the police station with you
08:35 for trying to slander her neighbor. How did you figure out that Mrs. Smith was lying?
08:40 [CLOCK TICKING]
08:49 It's freezing outside, and there's snow on the roofs. In two hours,
08:53 damp laundry would be so frozen, it'd be impossible to fold it and put it in a bag.
08:58 Beverly was making dinner in the kitchen when she heard glass shatter. She rushed to the living room
09:03 and saw the window broken. Someone had thrown a stone that was now lying in the middle of the room.
09:08 Beverly called the police, but they didn't manage to figure out who the culprit was.
09:12 The next day, when Beverly came home from work, she saw something on her doormat. It was a note.
09:18 Williamson was the surname of Beverly's neighbors. There were three teenagers in that family – Mark,
09:25 Roy, and Natalie. Which one broke the window?
09:28 [CLOCK TICKING]
09:37 It was Mark. The note says, "Question Mark Williamson."
09:40 Bruce owned a large store that sold expensive designer items. Recently, there have been several
09:47 thefts there. The man asked his friend Gabriel, who was a police detective, to check what was
09:52 going on. Gabriel spent two hours in the store. When he left it, he knew who the thief was and
09:58 who was guilty of these crimes. [CLOCK TICKING]
10:07 [DING]
10:09 The thief was the detective himself. He easily stole a pair of costly sunglasses to prove
10:14 that the store's security was very bad. That's the reason for so many thefts.
10:19 One of these young women has a dog. Can you tell which one?
10:23 [CLOCK TICKING]
10:31 [DING]
10:32 It's the girl on the left. Her pooch has torn her sneakers.
10:36 [MUSIC]
10:37 When Amy entered the office, she noticed that her colleague, Emma, was very upset.
10:42 It was just the beginning of the workday, but someone had already stolen her purse.
10:47 Only those who worked in the company could get into the office. Amy started her own investigation.
10:52 Jenna, who worked in IT, said she'd been fixing somebody's computer.
10:57 Joanna, the secretary, answered she'd been on the phone with some clients.
11:01 James, the sales manager, said, "I've been in a three-hour-long meeting. I'm exhausted."
11:06 Amy knew right away who had taken the purse. Can you figure it out?
11:10 [CLOCK TICKING]
11:19 [DING]
11:20 It's James. The working day has just started. How could he be in such a long meeting?
11:25 There are two towns near each other. People who always tell the truth live in one of them.
11:31 Liars live in the other. The inhabitants of the towns often visit each other.
11:35 What questions should you ask a passerby to find out which town you're in?
11:39 [CLOCK TICKING]
11:47 [DING]
11:48 Ask them, "Are you a guest here?" If they answer yes, you're in the town of liars.
11:53 If they say no, you're in the town where honest people live.
11:58 When it's raining, the cat is either in the room or in the basement.
12:02 When the cat is in the room, the mouse is in the burrow, and the cheese is in the fridge.
12:06 If the cheese is on the table and the cat is in the basement, the mouse is in the room.
12:11 Right now, it's raining and the cheese is on the table. Where are the cat and the mouse?
12:16 [CLOCK TICKING]
12:24 [DING]
12:26 The cat can be in two places, either in the room or in the basement.
12:30 But at the moment, the cat can't be in the room because the cheese is not in the fridge.
12:34 It's on the table. It means the cat is in the basement.
12:38 And since the cheese is on the table and the cat is in the basement, the mouse must be in the room.
12:42 Dora was on her way to work. When she was passing by a dark alley, she heard a loud scream.
12:50 The woman came a bit closer to check it out. Someone was shouting, "Help! Help me!"
12:55 But as soon as Dora saw the alley, she immediately called the police and ran away. Why?
13:00 [CLOCK TICKING]
13:08 [DING]
13:09 It was a trap. There were two kinds of footprints going into the alley, but no footprints coming out.
13:15 Robert was a collector of rare coins. One day, the man called the police.
13:21 "I got this coin only yesterday," he cried. "I've been looking for it for several years,
13:26 and now it's gone. I'll bet it's one of my brothers. Frederick and Matthew live together
13:31 with me. One of them collects ancient books, and the other is crazy about rare stamps.
13:36 All our collections are kept in one large room."
13:39 The police started to ask Robert for more details. It turned out that the key from the room where all
13:44 the collections were was kept in a vase standing on the fireplace. The only person who visited the
13:50 house was Robert's friend, Mark. The man liked the coin so much that he started offering big money
13:56 for it. But Robert didn't agree to sell it. In the morning, he came to check on the coin,
14:01 but it was missing. When the police arrived, they found out the room had been opened with the key.
14:06 The police didn't find any fingerprints either. Do you know who stole the coin?
14:11 It was Mark. He was the only person who had a reason for getting rid of the fingerprints.
14:27 The brothers' fingerprints would be absolutely natural since they live there.
14:31 There was a blackout in the city, but the bus driver still noticed a dog on the road
14:36 and managed to stop in time. How did he do this?
14:41 This accident happened during the day. It's nothing but holes tied to other holes.
14:55 At the same time, it's as strong as steel but not as stiff as a pole. What is it?
15:01 It's a chain.
15:12 Stephen's wife called the police and told them her husband had disappeared right from his garage.
15:19 It happened several hours ago. The only thing she found there was a left-hand glove.
15:24 When the police came, they saw it was a very peculiar glove. Such gloves were sold only in
15:30 one store in their town. The store owner told them he had recently sold these gloves only to
15:35 two people – Kevin, Stephen's neighbor, and Brian, Stephen's colleague at work.
15:40 The police officers visited Kevin and asked the man to show them his gloves. But Kevin had just
15:46 one. "I lost the other glove a week ago, and I don't have any other gloves." The man even pulled
15:51 the glove on to demonstrate it to the officers. Then the police visited Brian. "I was wearing
15:57 these gloves when I was repairing my car. They got so dirty that I threw them away."
16:01 Who do you think knows something about Stephen's disappearance?
16:05 Brian. Kevin put his glove on his left hand, and the glove Stephen's wife found was also for the
16:22 left hand. A math teacher told his students about the Roman numerals. After that, he asked them to
16:28 draw just one continuous line and turn ix into 6. The only condition was that the students were not
16:35 to lift their pens from the paper until the line was finished. Jeffrey was the first to complete
16:40 this task. How did he do this? He drew the letter S in front of ix and got 6.
16:57 Both Sharon and Cynthia had a box of chocolates each. There were 14 chocolates in each box.
17:04 Sharon ate several candies, and Cynthia ate the same number of chocolates that were left in
17:08 Sharon's box. How many chocolates do they have together now? They still have 14 chocolates
17:25 together. Kimberly inherited an old house from her rich aunt. When the young woman was exploring
17:31 the cellar, she came across a massive wooden door. She opened it and saw a small room. In that room,
17:38 there were three bags and a note on the floor. One of the bags has 1 million dollars,
17:43 and the others are empty. You can only open one bag, so think carefully.
17:47 Kimberly also noticed there was a message on each bag. On the first bag, it said, "The cash is not
17:54 here." The message on the second bag was, "The cash is not here." And the message on the third
18:00 bag claimed, "The cash is in the second bag." If only one message is true, which bag has the money?
18:08 The money can't be in the second or third bags. If it was so, then two messages would be true.
18:23 It means the money is in the first bag. When you look for something,
18:28 you'll always find it in the last place where you search. Why is that?
18:32 It's always the last place where you look because, after this, there's no need to continue your
18:47 search. A married couple went on a vacation and asked their neighbor to look after their house.
18:54 When they returned, the wife found out that she had lost all her expensive jewelry,
18:58 and it happened because of a power failure no less. The woman had hidden her jewelry in a
19:03 supposedly safe place. The house hadn't been burgled, the neighbor was an honest person,
19:09 the jewelry had disappeared by accident. What happened?
19:23 The wife hid her jewelry in the freezer in a bag with frozen food. After the power failure,
19:28 the food got spoiled. The neighbor decided to help and threw away all the bad food from the fridge,
19:35 along with the jewelry. That's it for today! So, hey, if you pacified your curiosity,
