00:00 Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most difficult Last
00:20 Bosses, Dungeons or Missions in gaming.
00:30 Number 10.
00:31 Command Deck - Bioshock Infinite
00:41 The final stretch of this game is basically a glorified escort mission.
00:45 All you have to do is protect the ship's core long enough to clear the stage.
00:49 Sounds easy right?
00:51 Unfortunately, Infinite's last level isn't a test of skill.
00:55 It's a war of attrition.
01:05 No matter what you do, enemy gunships will keep dropping off motorized patriots, and
01:11 vox soldiers, and rapid fire turrets.
01:14 It happens again and again and again until you're so overwhelmed you can barely think
01:20 straight, let alone defend the core.
01:23 Even if you're the best marksman in the world, it still takes a few tries to see Bioshock
01:27 Infinite's credit.
01:37 Number 9.
01:48 Firefield - F-Zero
01:49 Despite how it looks, there's actually no way to drive into the lava on this track.
01:53 But having bumpers doesn't make F-Zero's climatic circuit easy, not by a long shot.
01:59 All it takes is one bad turn to leave you bouncing off the walls like a pinball.
02:03 And if you make it through the first one unscathed, don't worry, there's plenty more tight 180
02:09 degree turns where that came from.
02:17 Then in truly despicable fashion, the end of the lap makes you choose between your one
02:21 pit stop and a much faster shortcut.
02:24 Suffice it to say, Firefield was designed to keep you on your toes, or rather, on the
02:30 brakes.
02:37 Number 8.
02:38 Sector Horrologium - Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey
02:49 Calling this a level isn't quite right.
02:52 No, Sector Horrologium is a full on labyrinth.
02:57 As the 8th and final area of the game's main dungeon, Horrologium is the utter culmination
03:02 of what Strange Journey has to offer.
03:11 Both in and out of combat, the confusing maze-like layout forces you to thoroughly explore each
03:17 of its sprawling floors.
03:18 But you can't take too much time, or the high level encounters will shred straight
03:23 through your damaged team.
03:25 As if that isn't stressful enough, the choices made in here also lock the player into one
03:30 of the Strange Journey's 3 endings.
03:32 Oh, and don't even get us started on that final boss.
03:42 Number 7.
03:43 Rainbow Road - Mario Kart Franchise
03:52 It's all fun and games until someone picks Rainbow Road.
03:57 Whether you're playing on the original SNES track or any of its iterations since, the
04:01 concluding race is always a white knuckle fight to the finish.
04:06 And all it takes is one try to see why.
04:15 The sharp drifts and distinct lack of bumpers turn even Mushroom Boost into a lopsided gamble.
04:21 Well, unless you're trying to shoot off into orbit, that is.
04:25 Then again, you probably don't need to hear any of this from us.
04:29 Rainbow Road and its many, many hazards have been terrorizing Mario Kart players for generations.
04:35 At this point, it's just part of the experience.
04:45 Number 6.
04:46 Mothership Assault - XCOM - Enemy Unknown
04:56 Threaten an alien invasion is never easy, but XCOM's final mission takes that idea
05:02 to a whole 'nother level.
05:05 Since you're attacking the mothership, there's never enough cover to completely avoid taking
05:10 damage.
05:11 Those tiny nicks quickly add up when you're blasting through 6 consecutive swarms of enemies.
05:16 Trial and error is basically the only way to get through it.
05:19 And yet, sometimes you'll still just lose for no reason.
05:28 Thanks to XCOM's infamous accuracy checks, even the best laid plans can go south with
05:34 a few unlucky misses.
05:36 If by some miracle you make it to the last stage, you're rewarded with a beastly throwdown
05:41 against the uber-ethereal.
05:44 Not even perfect stats would make that fight even.
05:53 Number 5.
05:54 The Imperial - Catherine
06:05 When Vincent's asleep, he's forced to ascend in an imaginary clubhouse by turning stacks
06:10 of cubes into staircases.
06:12 Unfortunately, the last level turns that dream into a gamer's nightmare.
06:17 The Imperial, introduced at the 11th hour of the campaign, decides to throw all sorts
06:22 of new mechanics at the player.
06:27 Suddenly, Vincent is avoiding spike blocks, monster blocks, and blocks that are hitting
06:35 until he's already stepped on them.
06:37 All the while, you're trying to climb fast enough to avoid an instant game over from
06:41 the rising floor.
06:42 Clearly, no one's getting through the Imperial without absolutely mastering Catherine's
06:47 puzzle-like gameplay.
06:48 Still, it is technically fair, if only barely.
06:58 Number 4.
07:00 Killing of the First Flame - Dark Souls 3
07:08 It takes 4 Chaos Lord souls, incredible dexterity, and 5 Black Knight fights just to make it
07:15 through the killing of the First Flame.
07:17 But when you finally walk into the last room, you have one more visitor to contend with,
07:22 the Soul of Cinder, aka the final boss to end all final bosses.
07:35 Since he's the amalgamation of all the Lords of Cinder, he fights with a staggering amount
07:39 of different spells and patterns.
07:41 Then, once you whittle him down, he suddenly regenerates all his health and his second
07:46 phase begins, this time with yet another moveset to learn.
07:51 Dark Souls 3 really makes you work for its ending, that's for sure.
08:01 Number 3.
08:02 Aliens Lair - Contra
08:12 Seven stages in Contra brings out the big guns by taking away yours.
08:16 In the original arcade version, there's not a single power-up in the entire level.
08:21 So either you win without getting hit, or you're stuck with a painfully low damage
08:25 blaster.
08:26 Unfortunately, the level is also littered with complex platforming, tricky enemy patterns,
08:32 and foes that hone in on you.
08:40 Even when you get to the final area, it still takes some serious skill to secure the win.
08:45 To be fair though, hard final levels are kind of Contra's thing.
08:49 In the third game, Alien Wars, you don't just blow up the invaders heart, you have
08:54 to beat the uber difficult emperor demon, Gava too.
09:04 Number 2.
09:06 The final stage, Ghosts 'n Goblins.
09:15 It's only fitting that one of the hardest games of all time also has a hair-pulling
09:20 last level.
09:21 To set the stage, you're fighting a boss with two different fireballs, you can only
09:26 be hit twice, and your weapon is a spammable shield toss.
09:30 But, you can't throw it while standing or at the peak of your jump.
09:37 Yeah, it's a grueling slugfest, and that's putting it lightly.
09:45 The worst part though, is that this isn't even the final boss.
09:50 After defeating the evil Astaroth the first time, you have to replay the entire game on
09:55 a new, higher difficulty to unlock the true last stage.
09:59 Spoiler, it's Astaroth again, just even more obnoxiously overpowered.
10:06 Number 1.
10:25 Act 6, Ninja Gaiden.
10:36 This famous Nintendo title is not for the faint of heart, or really for anyone who values
10:41 their sanity.
10:42 Ninja Gaiden's final act includes not one, not two, but three boss fights.
10:48 And yes, they all have to be beaten in succession.
10:57 Due to a notorious bug in the game's code, if you die at all in the final stages, you
11:02 are sent right back to the start of the act.
11:05 You heard that right.
11:06 Not the previous fight, or area, the last act.
11:10 So, in order to see the ending, you have to beat the most brutal stretch of Ninja Gaiden
11:16 in a single perfect run.
11:18 The word "hard" doesn't even begin to cover it.
11:27 Have you beaten any of these insurmountable levels?
11:30 Brag about it in the comments down below.
11:45 Thanks for watching.
