00:00 Nightly greetings one and all.
00:01 William Theo here, homegrown and happy to be bringing you developments unfolding of
00:06 late all over the planet, and tonight we begin with...
00:11 After winding up empty-handed in his Washington, D.C. trip to convince GOP lawmakers for more
00:16 funding in Ukraine's war against Russia, Ukrainian Chief Volodymyr Zelensky wasted
00:22 no time to hop on his private plane for his next stop, Scandinavia.
00:27 His plane landed earlier in the first leg of the trip, the Norwegian capital of Oslo.
00:32 The Ukrainian head of state is up for a huddle with the leaders of the five Nordic countries,
00:38 who are among the top donors to Ukraine in its tiff with Russia.
00:42 Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Garstor expressed goodwill and warmth to Zelensky, assuring
00:49 him of Norway's continued support in its resistance against Russia and its crusade
00:54 for freedom and democracy.
00:58 Since October 17, Iranian proxies have carried out at least 90 attacks against U.S. forces,
01:05 clearly indicating how other Arab countries are clearly on the side of the Palestinians.
01:11 And GOP legislators in Congress are hitting on U.S. President Joe Biden for being too
01:17 soft against Iran and her allies.
01:20 VOA's Congressional Correspondent Catherine G. Gibson tells us more.
01:27 Just days after Iranian-backed Houthi rebels attacked the U.S. in the Red Sea, Iran's
01:34 foreign minister warning the U.S. over its policy in Gaza Tuesday.
01:41 An uncontrollable and unpredictable explosion could take place at any time.
01:45 This is what the Americans haven't realized until today.
01:48 And if they don't realize it soon, the consequences will strongly affect the United States.
01:54 On Capitol Hill, Republican lawmakers say the Biden administration's policies have encouraged
02:00 Iranian aggression.
02:02 Iran has been emboldened to throw its weight around the Middle East from Yemen to Gaza,
02:07 with it or its proxies directly attacking U.S. military sites and warships essentially
02:11 without consequence.
02:13 Republicans criticized the Biden administration's deal to unfreeze $6 billion in assets earlier
02:19 this year in return for the release of five hostages.
02:23 When this government releases money to Iran or relaxes the enforcement of sanctions, it
02:30 is funding the very terror operations directed against the Iranian people, the people of
02:35 Israel and someday soon, I am afraid, against the people of the United States.
02:42 The no funds for Iranian terrorism act freezing that $6 billion transfer passed with bipartisan
02:49 support in the U.S. House.
02:51 If God forbid Iran gets an advantage, the government gets an advantage by saving and
02:57 seizing an American hostage.
03:00 After those hostages are released, we should try to take away the advantage they got.
03:05 This is not a legitimate deal when Americans are held hostage.
03:12 Lawmakers said protests led by Iranian women show that regime change will ultimately come
03:19 from within the country.
03:20 The women of Iran in particular need to be called out for their bravery, for their vision
03:29 and for their willingness to stand up for not only their future, but for freedom of
03:35 every Iranian.
03:36 U.S. lawmakers reintroduced H.R. 100 on Tuesday, expressing the U.S. Congress's support for
03:43 a democratic, secular and non-nuclear Iran.
03:48 Catherine Gipson, VOA News.
03:54 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the hawks in his cabinet have been called
03:58 out by President Joe Biden as he expressed frustration on Israel's carpet bombing and
04:04 scorched earth policy in the city of Gaza.
04:07 Even worse, a United Nations plenary resolution condemns Israel's continued mass slaughter
04:12 of innocent civilians in Gaza in a 153-10 vote, calling for an immediate and unconditional
04:19 ceasefire in the condemned city.
04:22 The Philippine government among the 153 critics of Israel's indiscriminate bombing.
04:27 VOA's White House Bureau Chief Pat Seawitthes Kawara tells us more.
04:34 Another market destroyed in Gaza, this one in the Jabalia refugee camp.
04:38 The level of civilian casualties is making U.S. President Joe Biden increasingly concerned.
04:44 We have made it clear to the Israelis and they're aware that the safety of innocent
04:51 Palestinians is still of great concern and so the actions they're taking must be consistent
04:58 with attempting to do everything possible to prevent innocent Palestinian civilians
05:04 from being hurt, murdered, killed, lost, etc.
05:12 Israel is losing international support over its indiscriminate bombings, Biden said during
05:17 a campaign appearance earlier Tuesday, his sharpest public criticism.
05:22 According to a White House transcript, he said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs
05:26 to change his coalition and empower the Palestinian Authority to become a partner in the peace
05:31 process.
05:32 He singled out Israel's far-right National Security Minister Iqbal Ben-Gavir, who opposes
05:38 a two-state solution.
05:41 Biden's comments came as 153 countries voted overwhelmingly in support of a U.N. resolution
05:48 demanding a ceasefire.
05:50 Ten countries opposed the measure, while 23 abstained.
05:53 Our duty is to try to save the lives of those who are still alive by having this resolution
06:00 adopted and by forcing Israel to comply with it and those who are shielding Israel to comply
06:07 with the global consensus.
06:10 The vote followed a similar U.N. Security Council resolution Friday that failed due
06:14 to a U.S. veto, a position that critics say damages Washington's interests beyond the
06:20 Middle East.
06:21 But also where we are arguing, for example, in the United Nations to gain the support
06:24 of the global south for our condemnations, our just condemnations of Russia's abhorrent
06:30 invasion of Ukraine.
06:32 We are also going to lose votes if we are seen to be hypocritical, if we are seen to
06:37 be walking away from our values.
06:39 General Assembly resolutions are non-binding but carry political weight.
06:43 U.N. officials, the majority of U.N. member states are simply looking for every means
06:50 possible to create a sense of moral pressure on the U.S. to change its posture.
07:00 Israel and its supporters say a ceasefire will only benefit Hamas, allowing them to
07:04 regroup for future attacks on Israel.
07:07 It's allowing Hamas to have a legitimacy that it hasn't earned.
07:14 It's giving trust to terrorist leaders who have proven unequivocally that they are not
07:20 trustworthy.
07:23 Following Hamas' October 7 attacks in Israel that killed at least 1,200, responding strikes
07:29 by Israel in Gaza have killed more than 18,000 people by Palestinian count in the bloodiest
07:36 campaign of the decades-long conflict.
07:39 Pat C. Hidakuswara, VOA News.
07:45 And at this juncture, we turn to our colleague in PTV's Pine City Studios for the last developments
07:50 brewing in the Cordilleras.
07:52 Good evening, Philippines.
07:54 My son, Ibagi City Councilor Arturo Alatiu, is the awardee of the 2023 Gawad Karapatan
08:00 Pantao T. Commission on Human Rights.
08:03 Good evening to all the viewers of Gawad Karapatan.
08:08 The board members have been working on a project to promote human rights in Ibagi City.
08:16 Many have already signed resolutions to declare December 10 as International Human Rights
08:24 Day in Ibagi City.
08:26 There have been peace talks between the government and NDFP.
08:33 Meanwhile, the local government of Ibagi has officially declared that the family will
08:40 be returned to their homeland.
08:42 At the end of the awarding ceremony, the winner of the 2023 National Human Rights Consciousness
08:48 Week, EJ Quezon City, Domingo.
08:52 I wholeheartedly accept this Gawad Gabay Karapatan Award.
08:58 My hesitation in accepting this award is it would put me more to an expectation geared
09:05 towards human rights realization and to a higher level for human rights advocacy.
09:12 But there is no more worthy than the cause on human rights as patronized by the late
09:18 former Senator Jose Diokno.
09:21 We will now continue with the student organization UP Namabagyo, the 8th edition of the International
