00:00 Police arrested 27-year-old Jacinta Davila and 22-year-old Kerem Mustafa Aydin last night
00:08 after the home invasion and violent assault of one of Adelaide's most prominent doctors
00:13 in the early hours of Monday.
00:16 Prosecutors told the court DNA evidence linked the co-accused to the crime scene.
00:20 The prosecution alleges that evidence including bloodstained clothing and shoes were found
00:25 during a search of the pair's Theberton home.
00:28 The court was told the couple stole medical items from a Torrensville pharmacy and supermarket
00:34 before entering a public bathroom to treat Mr Aydin's injuries.
00:38 An intensive care paediatrician, Dr Michael Young was found at his Gilberton home with
00:43 severe head and spinal injuries and died in the Royal Adelaide Hospital yesterday.
00:48 I think this has shocked South Australians to the core in a way that has become a bit
00:54 too frequent in the last couple of weeks.
00:57 Dr Young's family has released a statement saying they're "absolutely devastated" by
01:01 his death, adding that "it's left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled."
01:06 The family says he was a wise and patient teacher and mentor to generations of aspiring
01:12 intensive care doctors.
01:14 Police initially suggested the attack on Dr Young may have been linked to recent break-ins
01:19 across Adelaide being investigated by Operation Mandrake, but that theory has now changed.
01:25 There's no other suspects being sought by detectives at this time and they're not related
01:29 to Operation Mandrake.
01:31 But police say no connection between the accused and the victim has been identified.
01:36 Ms Davila and Mr Aydin have been charged with murder, aggravated serious criminal trespass
01:42 and committing theft using force.
01:44 Mr Aydin didn't make a bail application, while Jacinta Davila's lawyers asked for bail, citing
01:50 she had responsibility to care for her eight-month-old daughter.
01:54 Mr Aydin appeared to have been treated for facial injuries with a bandage covering part
01:59 of his head.
02:00 While he showed little emotion, his co-accused, Ms Davila, was visibly distraught.
02:06 Her matter will return to court on Friday next week to decide whether or not she'll
02:10 be granted bail on home detention.
