00:00 So take it easy.
00:01 >> Boa, AP, I asked him on Monday about attacking down the field and
00:06 he said it's what I want, I make it clear it's what I want.
00:09 I asked Aiden about it yesterday, I said is it not being called or
00:12 not being executed?
00:13 He said both.
00:14 How do you get attacking more into this?
00:17 I know it's in the game plan, but
00:19 how do you get it more on the field to help this offense?
00:22 >> Yeah, we gotta do whatever it takes to affect the opponent and
00:26 put our guys in the best ability to make plays and doing that does that.
00:31 And we'll have those thoughts going forward and we do.
00:35 Every week we talk about it and we'll just go out and do what we have to do as far
00:40 as the execution standpoint from a play caller and a player perspective.
00:44 >> I realize there's a Devante, so then there's always everybody else.
00:48 He's the best in the league.
00:49 But when you have the speed of a Trey or DeAndre,
00:52 do you have to think about ways, okay, how can we use them to stretch the field?
00:56 >> We think about all of our players and what are their skill sets and
01:00 we try to put them in the best ability to maximize those skill sets that they have.
01:04 >> I think you have, it's still fairly new.
01:07 What did you learn last week?
01:10 >> It's just I learned that turnovers and penalties don't help drives.
01:16 >> [LAUGH] >> I did.
01:18 I would be calling plays at certain spots on the field where I'm like, all right,
01:22 this is where let's get to this and let's move down into the red area.
01:26 And we kind of get there and then player two or a caller two,
01:30 kind of fall back behind the sticks and you learn from it.
01:34 And you battle back and you get the group and you get them going and
01:37 you just reset.
01:38 >> I'm not trying to relive it, but as you're going along, is it like,
01:43 that didn't work, no.
01:46 Now, do you start second guessing or do you start thinking more?
01:49 I guess I was like- >> I don't believe in second guessing.
01:52 You don't have time to.
01:53 But you do have time to reflect on what happened on a short week.
01:58 But you learn, I hope everybody learns, and I've talked about that before.
02:01 But from an execution standpoint, a schematic standpoint, and
02:08 then just obviously, for us, the most important thing that came out of that was
02:13 we have to put two positive plays back to back.
02:16 That's important.
02:18 That's the art of offensive football.
02:21 >> Khalil ruined a lot of what you guys wanted to do last time.
02:26 I know you're in a different role this time around.
02:28 I guess, how do you kind of combat that?
02:31 And when you look back, I guess, was that sometimes to ask a quarterback,
02:34 sometimes on the line, it seemed like some of those might have been on his first start.
02:37 Very new, I guess, how do you adjust to what happened last time?
02:40 >> Well, first of all, he's a great player.
02:42 And we've said this each week.
02:43 There's one or two out there that are game wreckers.
02:45 And you have to put that into account when you make your plan and
02:51 go out and execute it.
02:53 >> John Madden, obviously a Raider great coach, but
02:55 a football icon, used to bemoan when he would do games.
02:59 If it's third and five, you throw the ball three yards.
03:03 How concerned are you with routes that are behind the chains?
03:07 And how much does that need to change?
03:10 >> Well, the first part of that, it's all situational.
03:16 When those calls are happening, what third down, what are we?
03:20 Is it a quattro call?
03:21 Do we have two downs, is third down really second down?
03:23 Is it a gotta have it third down?
03:26 All those things come into play when you're putting your plan together, so
03:30 you have those certain calls.
03:31 So if it's a call that's okay in front of the sticks,
03:33 because you know you have another call, is it a run?
03:36 Or is it something that needs to stretch past the sticks?
03:38 So all those things kinda come into play when you're putting everything together.
03:42 >> After last week, is this week a hey, throw it out, scream and yell week?
03:48 Is it a maybe, hey, gallows humor, laugh about it kinda week to move on?
03:53 Like- >> Yeah, no.
03:54 >> More coaching style, reconnecting and- >> Be myself.
03:58 Be myself, be truthful about what we didn't do, and
04:02 then also show what we did well.
04:04 And really take it from there, going into a short week for
04:08 these guys too, is very important.
04:11 >> Is the short week a positive, in a way?
04:14 >> I think it's, for either or, it's a positive.
04:17 I mean, anytime you get to go out and play football,
04:19 whether it's in 72 hours after you won or lose a game, or you get a full week's prep.
04:25 I think it's a good way for our guys to go out and
04:28 really put the product on the field that we feel good about.
04:30 >> In the past when we've seen no Colton, we've seen Jermaine switch to the left.
04:33 Last week, Jermaine stayed right, Thayer went left.
04:36 I guess what was behind that thought process, and what'd you make of it?
04:38 >> Yeah, I mean, it's given those guys opportunities at different spots, and
04:42 we kinda reflect on that, and just kinda move forward with our plan.
04:45 >> Well, how did you think Dylan performed at the center?
04:51 >> Dylan's a good football player, and he's got certain skill sets.
04:55 He can kinda move around a little bit.
04:56 He's very intelligent, and so we have a lot of trust in him.
05:00 >> Well, you guys statistically have a very good shot if you went out of still
05:03 making the playoffs.
05:04 I'm just curious, how excited are you to get last week behind you,
05:08 get some points on the board, and get this team feeling confident?
05:11 >> Yeah, I'm excited every week, and in the confidence of the guys.
05:15 I have all the confidence in them.
05:17 And it's just for us to kinda learn and take what happened last week, but
05:22 also just moving into this week reset and do the things we really wanna do well, and
05:27 finish the night off feeling good about that.
05:29 >> Awesome, thank you.
