Frustrating result again for Emma Hayes' Chelsea Women's

00:00 Sure.
00:01 What do you think of the performance tonight?
00:07 We had 70% of the ball, first time 22 touches in the opponent box, had 30 shots on goal,
00:20 30 shots, 3.0 xG. The technical execution from us tonight was really poor as a team.
00:28 You can't talk tactics when you can get in through different phases quite easily.
00:34 First half, I thought exactly that. We either made the right pass but it was the wrong execution
00:42 or we'd build up to centre forward and we wouldn't hold it up very well.
00:47 So it was technical for me.
00:49 And then second half, even more so.
00:52 When you're playing against a block, you can't just play into the block like we did.
00:58 I think we're a bit frustrated and I think quite rightly because for the amount of ball we had
01:07 and the amount of final third entries we had, there wasn't enough quality from the team as a whole.
01:14 How did that influence your strike?
01:20 I think if you score then, you score one.
01:24 But when you don't, then it becomes a little bit… I thought we lacked a little bit of calm and composure
01:31 the longer the game went on. I could see the frustrations amongst the players.
01:38 But it's a point and we still have to go to Gothenburg.
01:43 I think when you have moments that are a bit tricky in a season,
01:47 you can't go through an entire year completely perfect.
01:50 We've scored multiple goals up until the last two games.
01:55 I think when you have these moments, then you get to see the characters of your players come through that.
02:00 I think when we get to the training pitch on Saturday, I could tell from the energy,
02:05 the way the team started the game today, they want to do the right things.
02:08 But for whatever reason, players who are very good football players,
02:12 some of them struggled to do the basic things tonight.
02:15 Have you had a chance to review the shots you've been talking about?
02:20 I never see anything after a game, to be honest. I just do press.
02:24 I was looking for a reaction, at least with intensity, did you see that in the competition?
02:36 Yeah, I did. I thought we started the game really brightly.
02:39 But we get the first press right and then Sam gets in a good position and squares it
02:44 instead of going into the box and finishing.
02:46 So for me, whether it's decision-making, execution in the final third,
02:51 that's what I think we lacked the most tonight.
02:54 You worked it quite well on Friday.
02:57 I mean, obviously, it changes as they take the long back to the front.
03:00 Again, does that put a pressure on the players?
03:04 I think so. We put inexperienced players into the game,
03:08 so the pressure's then on them to perform.
03:11 And that's something they'll gain with a little bit of time.
03:15 I thought some of it worked and some of it didn't.
03:20 Do you think that disappointed the players?
03:26 They're frustrated, so they don't need me to add to that.
03:30 They need me to prepare them for Saturday, and that's my job.
03:34 I'll get them ready on Saturday.
03:37 I think for us as a team, when you get into situations like you're in tonight,
03:45 a game you should win, and we haven't had enough chances to win.
03:49 But we're disappointed with some of the technical execution of what we've done.
03:56 James?
03:57 Emma, what did you say to the players at the end of the game?
04:01 I said the good news is we go to Gothenburg next week,
04:04 so if that's where the game is, I hope it is.
04:07 It is, right?
04:10 That could have been clumsy.
04:14 Is it simple as that that they haven't got too long to think about this result today?
04:21 We might look back in a few weeks and say it's a really good point gained.
04:27 It's irrelevant. It's over. It's done with.
04:29 You can't do anything about it.
04:33 You don't need me to point out the things that are blatantly obvious
04:36 in a lot of individuals' performances tonight.
04:40 My job is to make sure we let it go and we go again Sunday.
04:45 You heard from the agent manager who was describing the fact that he used to play them for us this much.
04:52 The first game was only a few months before the return.
04:54 Is that something you have worked on today in place of the other games?
04:59 We have a game Sunday. We have a game Wednesday.
05:02 They have got a rest Monday. We are only going to get one day prep.
05:06 So, yes, I would say so, but it's not really enough of a turnaround time.
05:13 One, and two, turfs are different.
05:15 So the turf we might use at Chelsea might be different to the one at the end.
05:18 Sometimes it's almost not worth it when it's like that, to be honest.
05:25 Jessie?
05:27 Have you seen some players moving out to a lot of wide areas in the game?
05:32 And you said you saw some of those move. Was that a chance to block them?
05:36 No. Yes.
05:40 When you play against a block like they do, and very compact,
05:44 for us as a team, the longer the game, we stayed inside the block.
05:48 We lost our width.
05:51 I think earlier on, because time is going from a double to a single pivot,
05:56 Aaron and Fran were on the same side, so Guru was inside.
05:59 Then when Guru went outside, we didn't feel the inner corridor,
06:02 so Sam came across there.
06:04 So I showed them clips of that at half-time.
06:07 But I think when some players are not having a good game, technically,
06:13 they start to do things to sort of get themselves into that.
06:16 I think we saw some frustrations in some of the performances.
06:21 It happens. It's football.
06:23 Sure you've had shit days at work.
06:29 Sick. Was. Due to play. Got a call from the doc.
06:35 It's fever time of the year. You know what it's like.
06:39 Might be another one tomorrow. I don't know.
06:41 But that's Melanie and Ashley out at the moment.
06:43 Aaron's recovered.
06:46 We'll take one more question from Sophie and then move on to a Bristol preview section,
06:50 if that's all right, in the absence of a presser tomorrow.
06:53 Sophie?
06:55 [INAUDIBLE]
07:04 No, they didn't.
07:07 We've had 70% of the ball.
07:09 We've had enough for the ball.
07:11 We've had enough moments.
07:13 But how many times have we crossed the ball and it shank out of play?
07:17 Or how many times did we play a ball into the striker and it bounced off her feet?
07:21 How many times did we play a give and go and didn't quite--
07:24 It's technical. Our challenge was technical tonight.
07:27 And I think it's fair for me to say the players are most frustrated at themselves for that.
07:35 But we move on. I can't do anything about it.
07:41 [INAUDIBLE]
07:47 They should. She's one of their own.
07:49 They should give her that. I'd expect that from our fans. They're the best anyway.
07:54 Thank you. We'll move--
