Sunak says support for Ukraine remains as Hungary blocks aid

  • last year
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has insisted support for Ukraine has not faltered, as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban today blocked the European Union from approving a financial aid package worth about £43bn for Ukraine. Sunak said the United Kingdom has "consistently been the country that has provided them with the equipment and capabilities that they need ahead of people and we will continue to do that." Sunak said he spoke to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine in recent days and assured him of the UK's continued support.

00:00 everyone in this country is proud of the role we've played in standing up for Ukraine and
00:04 being their closest ally. We've been there from the start. I've continued that as Prime
00:08 Minister. We've consistently been the country that's provided them with the equipment and
00:12 the capabilities they need ahead of people, and we will continue to do that. We will stand
00:16 shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine as they resist Russian aggression. We can't take our
00:21 minds away from that conflict, even though there are other things going on in the world.
00:24 I just spoke to President Zelensky the other day, assured him of our continued support,
00:28 and in fact just near here, Ukrainian troops are being trained by British soldiers. It's
00:33 just one of the many things we're doing to help Ukraine, and that support will always
00:36 continue under my leadership.
