00:03 The game went over the total in the first half for
00:06 L a total that was so low because the Raiders last week got shut out at home and
00:10 the charges of not play great on offense.
00:13 Of course, the quarterback Herbert's on into reserve and done for the season.
00:17 So yeah, look, it was awful.
00:20 It was an awful performance.
00:22 Brandon Staley, the way that I understand it was he just could not reach the
00:25 players, he could not get them particularly on defense,
00:28 which is his side of the football to play like he wanted.
00:31 And it was a fate of conflict.
00:33 He wasn't gonna return anyway.
00:34 It was just a matter of what he returned for the final three games and
00:37 he's not going to Christine Spanos, the owner made the call today.
00:40 But once they got back to LA from Las Vegas, he made the call and
00:45 that was the end of it.
00:45 So, Telesco, that was a surprise.
00:48 It's just the timing of it.
00:50 Because you have to ask yourself this question.
00:51 Why do this now with the general manager?
00:54 Well, here's why.
00:56 They don't want to let's go running the search.
00:58 Typically, the general manager will help run the search or be in charge of it.
01:01 In this case, he won't because he's gone.
01:03 So Spanos will have to hire a new head coach and a new general manager.
01:08 And by the way, this is the first time the chargers have fired a head coach
01:12 in season since Kevin Gilbride was a head coach several decades ago.
01:18 In fact, as I understand it, Staley had a year left on his contract.
01:20 So this is not typical of what they do.
01:22 But it didn't work.
01:23 And the interesting thing for LA is in 2021,
01:27 Staley was one of the top three hot names.
01:30 The Eagles, I remember, they wanted to talk to him, but
01:33 the Chargers got to him first.
01:35 And the Eagles hired a guy, Nick Sirianni, a former Chargers assistant,
01:38 who never had another head coaching interview.
01:41 And where Staley was the hot name that year in 2021, it didn't work.
01:44 They had an awful choke last year in the playoffs to the Jaguars.
01:47 Yeah, they made it.
01:48 I'm told they were never considering firing him after that bad loss in
01:53 the playoffs, where they were up for so much at halftime against the Jaguars.
01:59 It seemed like to be, okay, well, they went by three or four touchdowns.
02:02 Well, they wound up choking that game, and they can never get the job done.
02:06 And Staley's out, and a guy that did a good job for
02:09 the Rams as their defense coordinator.
02:10 But it was a disaster as a head coach, particularly this season.
02:14 And they also fired a D-line coach later in the day.
02:18 So they've got a lot of work to do.
02:20 Now, as we move forward here, there are three head coaches have been fired,
02:23 two general managers.
02:25 It's not uncommon for one head coach to be fired in season, but three, Pharrell,
02:29 is highly, highly not likely to happen.
02:32 But it happened this season, and you know what?
02:34 Who's to say there won't be any more?
02:35 And by the way, the talk around the league is, there could be as many as eight head
02:39 coaching openings by mid-January.
