00:00 "How could you kill someone?"
00:02 "I didn't kill anyone, Kurt."
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the horror movie villains
00:08 of 2023 that were pure nightmare fuel.
00:12 This list does contain spoilers, so beware.
00:16 "Mama...
00:17 Mama's with the maggots now."
00:22 10.
00:23 Ghostface - Scream 6
00:25 We've seen many iterations of the masked serial killer in the Scream series, but the sixth
00:31 installment of the slasher franchise still manages to deliver chilling thrills, blending
00:36 them with the sometimes terrifying callousness of big city life.
00:47 The diabolical killer has vengeance on their mind, and in some of the movie's best scenes,
00:52 they prove they're not afraid to commit their murders in front of witnesses.
01:01 We won't spoil their identity here, because frankly, the idea of the diabolical killer
01:06 moving through public spaces with this much stealth is scary enough.
01:16 9.
01:21 The Aliens - No One Will Save You
01:24 In this mostly wordless Hulu original, Bryn is a small-town outcast whose home is besieged
01:30 by aliens with extrasensory powers.
01:43 As far as creature design goes, the aliens resemble traditional oval-headed ETs, but
01:48 with insect-like legs. They howl, shriek, click, and make siren sounds at a frequency
01:54 designed to make human skin crawl.
02:05 Home invasion is bad enough. Being sucked up into a flying saucer is pretty terrifying.
02:11 But these creatures have an ace up their sleeve. Just when you think it's going to be a fairly
02:15 straightforward alien menace with crop circles and UFOs, boom, it turns out they're also
02:21 body snatchers who can work human-like puppets.
02:29 8.
02:33 Jon Carver - Thanksgiving
02:35 With his origins in a Black Friday sale gonorrhea, the killer in this slasher from Eli Roth is
02:41 instantly iconic.
02:48 Joining the likes of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees is Jason Carver, or rather, a killer
02:53 who dresses as the real-life Plymouth Pilgrim. In his Black Period clothing, wide-brimmed
03:00 hat, and unmoving mask, he is a deceptively goofy-looking murderer. The cartoonish look
03:08 just makes his axe-swinging viciousness all the more disturbing. The villain turns the
03:13 traditions of Thanksgiving on their head and fills them with all sorts of new and depraved
03:19 meaning.
03:22 7.
03:26 Abizu - The Offering
03:27 While human villains often have deplorable but understandable motives, such as revenge,
03:33 mythological monsters can be terrifying in their embodiment of pure evil. The antagonist
03:42 of this underrated horror-thriller is Abizu, a demon from Jewish folklore. Accidentally
03:48 unleashed by a resurrection spell, the demon is seeking a human host. Living in the shadows
03:58 and causing victims to hallucinate, Abizu is frighteningly adept in psychological attacks.
04:04 Preying on our deepest vulnerabilities, the demon seems to enjoy impersonating loved ones,
04:10 a trick it uses to deadly effect.
04:16 6.
04:18 Lipstick-Faced Demon - Insidious The Red Door
04:21 This red-faced demon implanted itself in our brains from the moment it appeared behind
04:26 Patrick Wilson's head in the first Insidious. The Red Door is the fifth installment of the
04:37 series, and this time around, the Lipstick-Faced Demon is haunting the now-grown boy it was
04:42 attempting to possess in the original. We get to see a little more of the monster this
04:49 time around, and surprise, it's just as harrowing to look at as always. We can completely understand
04:55 the emotional toll its attacks have taken on the family across the franchise.
05:02 5.
05:04 Valak - The Nun 2 This offshoot from The Conjuring series boasts
05:08 the scariest nun since the Blues Brothers. Valak is a demon who dons a nun's habit to
05:15 prey upon the pious.
05:23 With its glowing eyes, razor teeth, and supernatural abilities, which include telekinesis, possession,
05:29 and setting people on fire, Valak proves once again just how terrifying evil nuns can be.
05:41 This time, though, the demon is even more intense. It targets in the sequel are the
05:45 descendants of the martyr St. Lucie, as it hunts for a relic that can restore its angelic
05:51 powers.
05:53 4.
05:57 Sarah - Cobweb Hearing a voice coming from the walls is scary
06:01 enough. The one that Peter hears whispers words of revenge and murder. It turns out,
06:06 the voice belongs to a sister he didn't even know he had. Their parents locked her away,
06:11 and she wants payback. And her freedom.
06:20 Seeing our skin crawl, she gets around by spider-walking everywhere, a skill that comes
06:25 in handy when you're living inside the walls. You could say the real villain of Cobweb is
06:37 bad parenting, and while that is true, no, it's also Sarah, who makes for a truly terrifying
06:44 antagonist.
06:51 3.
06:52 Dracula - The Last Voyage of the Demeter It takes a whole lot more than blood and jump
06:57 scares to make one of the oldest screen villains terrifying again. But horror has come a long
07:02 way since Bela Lugosi's immortal performance. The Last Voyage of the Demeter infuses the
07:12 monstrous Count Dracula with new blood and a new mean streak. Based on a chapter in Bram
07:18 Stoker's original novel, Count Dracula terrorizes the crew of the ship, taking him from Bulgaria
07:24 to England. Once the decrepit vampire awakens, no one is safe from his hunger. While the
07:34 movie met with mixed reviews and disappointed at the box office, its villain definitely
07:40 made us shiver.
07:42 2. Ellie aka The Marauder - Evil Dead Rise While Sam Raimi didn't direct this fifth installment
07:51 of the franchise, it's got his love of outrageous gore and wicked humor running right through
07:57 it. This standalone entry gets a powerful and twisted infusion of family strife. Evil
08:02 Dead Rise follows two sisters, one of whom, Ellie, becomes possessed by the undead. Ellie's
08:12 sister Beth and children spend much of the movie trying to escape her murderous reanimated
08:18 corpse. Working away at their emotional connections to her, the creature attacks them without
08:27 mercy. She becomes even more terrifying when she morphs into an abomination of a creature
08:33 called the Marauder.

08:53 1. Megan - The Little Monster - The Last Jedi What is it about creepy dolls that just never
08:59 gets old? This little monster is a fusion of all of our anxieties about artificial intelligence,
09:05 parenting, and little things with stabby things.
09:08 "Have I done something to upset you, Jemma?"
09:11 Megan, which stands for Model 3 Generative Android, is a robot doll that can pair with
09:16 a child and become an intensely protective friend. Sure, maybe she takes it a bit too
09:21 far. After all, she does resort to murder quicker than you can factory reset.
09:26 "What are you?"
09:27 "I've been asking myself that same question."
09:29 But hey, you can't say she's not loyal. The only thing scarier than her savage violence
09:37 is her alarming ability to generate memes at a breakneck pace.
09:42 "What are you doing?"
09:43 "The eyes will break from the same paralyze."
09:46 Which of these villains would you love to see return for a sequel? Cast your vote in
09:50 the comments.
09:51 "I'm your best friend, you damn bitch."
09:53 "It's Megan 2.0."
