Transcript
00:00 The Senate discussed various respiratory illnesses such as the rise of COVID-19 and the walking pneumonia.
00:07 Senators also asked if the public should be concerned about this.
00:11 Daniel Manalastas has the details.
00:13 To clarify whether the public should be afraid or not of walking pneumonia,
00:21 this is what the Health Department discussed in the hearing of the Senate Committee on Health.
00:25 The reason why we hear about walking pneumonia is because people are going about their way, walking,
00:36 without knowing that they have the disease.
00:40 That terminology is also causing fear.
00:44 But it's actually a terminology because they're going around their way.
00:49 Senator Bongo asked the DOH if it's possible for people to get walking pneumonia when they don't see any symptoms.
00:56 According to the DOH, the symptoms are mild.
00:59 If the disease is contagious...
01:01 It's usually the same as the others.
01:04 It's not more extreme in transmissibility than the others.
01:09 But the face mask is said to help to avoid the disease and minimum public health standards.
01:15 According to the DOH, the symptoms of COVID-19 are almost the same, influenza, walking pneumonia and other diseases.
01:23 The way to know which one is the disease is to get a sample, throat swab or OPS or what we call OPS.
01:34 When and should everyone get a sample?
01:38 We encourage everyone to get a sample early, especially for the young or the elderly, and those who have comorbidities.
01:49 It's better to get a mask even for influenza, COVID-19 or walking pneumonia.
01:57 It can help to prevent.
01:59 The DOH is also talking to COVAX for additional COVID-19 vaccine supply.
02:05 They have submitted an appeal and preference of vaccines to be given to the most vulnerable sectors.
02:11 Do you have stock of the bivalent vaccine?
02:20 Have you already printed the mottos?
02:25 Currently, we do not have use. It's already consumed.
02:30 Health Secretary Ted Herbosa is calling for...
02:35 My recommendation to the media is not to bother with the data, the numbers.
02:39 We will interpret it with the epidemiologists.
02:42 Then we will tell you and warn you if we have an outbreak.
02:45 As of now, there is no outbreak.
02:47 It's still the normal endemic increase of respiratory illnesses.
