00:03 The new law of the Holy Father allows couples to live in parter and divorce.

00:13 In a declaration signed by Pope Francis,

00:19 the priests allowed to give blessings to the partners who have the same religion.

00:25 It is also allowed to bless those who are in an irregular situation

00:30 like those who are not married and those who are divorced.

00:35 But there are conditions so that the blessing will not be misused.

00:41 The doctrine of the Catholic Church does not change that marriage is between a woman and a man.

00:47 A theologian explained the meaning of the blessing that the Holy Father is referring to.

00:53 If you are visiting a shrine or pilgrimage,

00:59 you are asking for a blessing, it should be more appropriate in such places and occasions

01:06 instead of having a blessing during a formal liturgical rite such as a marriage.

01:13 Because people may misunderstand that the blessing given by the priest is like blessing the same-sex union.

01:21 But the Vatican's document still considers it a big step because it is different from the previous position of the Church.

01:29 In 2021, the same Vatican Committee declared,

01:34 "We cannot give any blessing to any situation of irregularity."

01:38 Now, it is different.

01:43 Now we can give a blessing to a situation of irregularity.

01:49 The Holy Father said that this is a way to open the Catholic Church to everyone and to guide its members.

01:55 But according to the document, the ceremony of marriage should be avoided and should not be allowed in the civil union.

02:04 We listened to the reaction of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines but they have not yet voted.

02:09 For the Lingayanda Gupan Archbishop, Socrates Villagas, in the new document from the Vatican,

02:15 the blessing of mercy was added to the categories of blessing.

02:20 When the priest prayed for the couples who are in an irregular situation,

02:25 he asked God to have mercy on them and to give them the grace to change.

02:31 The priests should be careful in choosing words to let the Church know the true intention.

02:38 The new declaration of the Catholic Church leader is a positive step.
