Transcript
00:00 Although he has been injured for most of the season, Detroit Lions plan to keep quarterback Hendon Hooker on the 53-man roster.
00:07 Here today to analyze that move is SIL Lions' John Macron.
00:11 John, talk about what it means by keeping Hendon Hooker on this roster.
00:15 Yeah, Cam, obviously when you look at the development of a young quarterback,
00:20 I think that all throughout his recovery here in Detroit, it's been an upward trajectory.
00:26 Hendon Hooker throws a nice deep ball. I think he's crisp. I think he's definitely everything that the Lions would have asked for in a young developmental quarterback.
00:35 I think that he potentially has the trait that a lot of quarterbacks nowadays feature that really help offenses, which is his mobility.
00:43 Here's the thing, and it definitely is debatable, because had they decided to leave him on the NFI list,
00:49 he just unfortunately would not be able to practice and get the same level of involvement in his opportunity now his first year in the NFL.
00:56 So while I think that an argument could be made that a roster spot on defense could be utilized as well,
01:02 I think that having Hendon Hooker develop is very key for this organization.
01:07 Day in, day out, observing what the likes of Teddy Bridgewater, David Blau, and Jared Goff do on a daily basis can only help a young rookie in his development.
01:18 I think that Brad Holmes, the organization, likes his composure. They like his ability to hit the books, understand the offense.
01:26 And every single day that he's able to be involved in tough practices, then you can only expect positive things.
01:34 Especially now, Cam, this football team is preparing for the playoffs. The intensity is going to ratchet up.
01:40 You realize that the Lions have two division games against the Vikings, an opportunity to clinch a division.
01:46 And I think the week of practice against when the Lions eventually prepare for the Cowboys will definitely be valuable for Hendon Hooker.
01:53 So all throughout his recovery, he's done well. He's obviously showed that he deserves to have a spot.
02:01 And for the Lions, they're going to continue to develop a potential replacement for Jared Goff down the line.
02:06 It may not be in 2024, but I think that every opportunity that Hendon Hooker has to show up at Allen Park and work with the team can only bode well for his development.
02:16 John, the future's bright for quarterback Hendon Hooker. Thanks for all the insight.
02:20 the Insight.
