00:00 Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald, and I'm here to tell you about
00:05 some of the stories that are making the headlines in our Christmas edition, which is on sale
00:09 now. We've the heartwarming story of a couple from Lauriston marking lots of celebrations
00:15 this week. Tom Burt's 72nd birthday is on Christmas Eve. He retires from Falkirk Council
00:21 after 35 years. The couple celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, but all are only
00:27 happy events thanks to the stranger who donated their heart to Tom's wife Georgina 15 years
00:32 ago. She tells us how she thinks about the donor every day, but it is particularly poignant
00:38 at this time of year. The much-anticipated skating rink at the Helix got off to a sticky
00:44 start with many of those buying tickets unhappy with the artificial ice surface and the skates
00:49 supplied. Falkirk Council has apologised and promised that the contractor has made improvements.
00:56 We tell of a former nurse at Forth Valley Royal Hospital who is about to be struck off
01:00 after being convicted of stealing drugs from the hospital unit where she worked. In sad
01:06 news, we have an obituary for former Manikee owner Bill Johnstone. We've got the important
01:12 information you may need over the festive period, including pharmacy opening times and
01:17 changes to refuse collections. But we've also got stories of people helping others this
01:23 Christmas, including Ross Coffee Shop in Larbert opening its doors to those alone on December
01:27 25th, and day-to-day owners in Stenysmuir handing over food partials. Historian Ian
01:35 Scott has some more of his fascinating information about our local history, this time about Falkirk's
01:41 water supply. And in sport, we've all the details of the fishing opening of Falkirk
01:46 Rugby Club's new premises. All these stories, lots more, including lots of festive picture
01:52 galleries are in a print edition which is on sale now and also online at www.falkirkherald.co.uk.
02:03 Thank you.
