Strong winds across central and northern areas of the UK meant a yellow weather warning has been in place by the Met Office this week, with wind speeds of over a hundred miles per hour detected in some areas. But how is the rest of the year looking in terms of weather? And can we expect a white Christmas this year? Here's what we know.

00:00 I will be going through the weather we can expect as we go through the rest of 2023,
00:05 but first I thought I'd take a quick glimpse at what we can expect on Christmas Day.
00:11 The weather in the run-up to Christmas is looking unsettled, with strong winds and heavy
00:14 rain at times, according to Met Office forecasters. Low pressure dominates the weather maps on
00:18 the 25th, bringing with it some showers and wind to the northeast of the UK, but to the
00:23 south, drier and milder conditions are expected. Across the weekend, heavy rain is forecast
00:28 on the Saturday, especially in western parts of Scotland, around 50 to 70 millimetres expected.
00:34 On Sunday, north-western Wales will be worst hit by that rain. But on the Monday, just
00:38 how likely is that sort-out-to-white Christmas?
00:41 I think it is quite likely. So the greatest chance of seeing some snow on Christmas Day
00:45 will be across parts of northern central Scotland, particularly the higher ground. We could see
00:50 maybe four to eight centimetres over the higher ground if we see those wintry showers really
00:55 kicking off and that cold rear does plunge its way a little bit further southwards.
