00:00 The Great Poles Uprising
00:02 On December 27, 1918, the Great Poles Uprising broke out.
00:07 It was a mass uprising of the inhabitants of the Greater Poland region,
00:12 which ended with the regaining of the independence of Greater Poland
00:16 and the inclusion of our district in the border of the Independent Second Polish Republic.
00:20 For the Great Poles, however, these nearly two-month armed struggles did not end,
00:27 because the Great Poles, which were the elite of the reborn Polish army,
00:33 were sent to the Eastern Front, where they played a key role in the victory over the Bolsheviks,
00:39 including taking part in the Battle of Warsaw, but not only, but also in many other battles and battles of this war.
00:45 I treat all forms of the uprising, especially those that are created locally, with great respect.
00:53 Because in these local communities, it is noticeable their particular care for places of memory
01:01 in the form of cemeteries, monuments, insurgent graves,
01:06 but also for preserving the memory of every insurgent,
01:10 who from individual towns of Greater Poland participated in battles,
01:18 often in distant parts of Greater Poland.
01:21 I think that in this way we will build such a collective, strong memory,
01:28 it will not only be the Central Museum of the Uprising of Greater Poland in Poznań,
01:33 but also a network of museum facilities throughout Greater Poland,
01:37 and also the whole Library of Publishers, which will commemorate the individual activities of individual participants,
01:47 because, as we know, this is the only way to do it,
01:50 by collecting locally, while there is still time, while these monuments are still at home,
01:55 while there are still memories, it should be prepared and developed intensively at this moment.
02:04 I think that this time is not in favor of this memory,
02:09 but at the same time with such a large mobilization of these local communities,
02:14 enthusiasts, historians, activists, I think that this can be perfectly complemented,
02:21 because the point is to have a full picture of the participation of the people of Greater Poland.
02:25 And only this combination of all these efforts and this museum,
02:32 which will be built, I hope, in the coming years in Poznań,
02:35 will give us such a feeling of satisfaction that we have done a lot to document it
02:42 and to keep it in the memory of the next generations.
