Sean Payton Denies Financial Motivation for Benching Russell Wilson

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton claims the decision to bench Russell Wilson is purely for competitive reasons.

00:38 Obviously it's difficult and

00:43 You know all of us feel like man we didn't do well enough but

00:50 You know one of the things we saw when we signed Stidham in in the offseason was not only

00:59 film from preseason games, but regular season games and

01:02 You know he's a guy that

01:05 You know I'm anxious to see play, and if I didn't feel like

01:09 He gave us the chance to win we wouldn't be making that move

01:16 And so the irony is

01:19 Obviously is he was in a situation that many would say is very similar and yet

01:25 I would say it's somewhat different, but that's kind of where we're at with it. I spent time with Russ this morning and

01:32 He's been a pro and obviously disappointed, but

01:37 You know all the work that goes into doing what he does or doing what they do at that position

01:44 it's difficult and it's

01:46 It's difficult and challenging and you know there's a part of you

01:53 certainly myself as a head coach that feels like man, I needed to be better because

02:07 But and then regards to the future that we haven't had a sit-down
