00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 In yesterday's news video, I briefly mentioned that Goldberg had pitched himself to face
00:12 Sting in his retirement match, but in that same interview it turns out there was some
00:16 other spicy material when Goldberg directed his attention to Vince McMahon.
00:21 On the Steve and Captain Evil podcast, Goldberg was asked about his relationship with Vince,
00:26 to which he said, "He gave me the opportunity to put my wife and my son in the front row
00:29 and gave me the ability to perform again in front of them, so I owe him everything.
00:34 Until we went to Saudi Arabia and he asked me to put Roman Reigns over and I had COVID."
00:39 Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
00:40 He had COVID?
00:42 And Vince wanted him to travel to Saudi Arabia and face Roman Reigns?
00:49 I remember calling him from my house here and I said, "Listen, here's the deal.
00:56 I'll do it if you give me a retirement match."
00:58 So I put myself in a horribly shitty situation to get what I wanted too, but to satiate him
01:03 and to give him what he wants.
01:05 The problem is, he never held up his part, so Vince is a piece of shit as far as I'm
01:09 concerned.
01:10 This isn't the first time that Goldberg has mentioned that he worked Elimination Chamber
01:13 2022 in exchange for a retirement match, but this is the first time he's called Vince
01:17 a piece of shit for it.
01:18 So he had COVID?
01:20 Like actual COVID?
01:21 Also in yesterday's news episode, hell of an episode that, you should watch it, I spoke
01:25 about Chris Jericho's online spat with Steven P. New, the attorney for Ace Steel and CM
01:30 Punk.
01:31 After the two couldn't seemingly agree on whether Jericho had an NDA regarding Brawlout
01:34 or not, perhaps Jericho was feeling some remorse about the whole ordeal.
01:38 Maybe he felt bad about having this argument on Christmas Day of all days.
01:42 Or maybe he didn't, but regardless, Jericho's at it again.
01:45 Or is he?
01:46 Well, WWE posted a video on Instagram of CM Punk's entrance at the MSG House Show,
01:51 his first match back in WWE, and in the comments of that video, "Why sir?
01:55 That's Chris Jericho, sir!"
01:57 Jericho left the comment saying "Congrats" complete with three whole fire emojis.
02:02 Now is this Jericho sincerely congratulating Punk on his return to the WWE ring, or a little
02:07 troll move and insincerely mocking him?
02:09 I'll let you decide.
02:10 But it's definitely not the first one.
02:12 Meanwhile in the land of last night's AEW Dynamite, there was a shock debut for the
02:15 company that you definitely would have missed if you weren't in attendance of the show.
02:19 Or on Twitter.
02:21 Because it wasn't broadcast.
02:23 Before Dynamite began, there was a dark match pitting The Gunz, Daddy Magic and Cool Hand
02:27 Ange against the acclaimed Daddy Ass and Scotty 2 Hottie.
02:31 Now going by Scott Taylor, he's actually been quietly producing and coaching for AEW
02:35 on and off throughout 2023, and he's been previously reported to want to join AEW full
02:40 time in 2024.
02:41 I'm sure this was a good sign of that.
02:43 He also entered to the Too Cool theme, and that's very fun.
02:46 And some nice news to end on today, as Gunther and his wife, former NXT UK star Ginny have
02:50 welcomed their first child together into the world.
02:53 Gunther posted to X to say that his son was born on December 27th.
02:56 Big congrats to all, and I look forward to seeing Gunther Jr's debut in WWE in about
03:00 20 years' time.
03:01 But he'll be like the ring commander or something, what's higher ranking than a
03:05 general?
03:06 Anyway, over to Luke for the Dynamite review.
03:08 Thank you for that Pete, but it's now time for my review of AEW Dynamite, aka the Wow
03:13 - loved all that wrestling stuff, not so much about the other stuff though.
03:16 Edition of AEW Dynamite New Year's Smash!
03:18 In about 5 minutes though.
03:21 This show kicked off in a huge way with a triple threat semi-final for the Gold League
03:26 of the Continental Classic between Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland and Jey White.
03:30 While I think more people have enjoyed the Blue League, I've enjoyed the Gold League,
03:34 and I've loved the story of the dominating Moxley, I've loved the story of the heel-come-good
03:38 Swerve Strickland, and I've loved the story of nasty heel Jey White, who after Full Gear
03:43 needed a fair bit of rehabbing.
03:45 The league has been so much fun and the wrestling has been so incredible, so it was a fitting
03:50 end to the Gold League, that this match was absolutely freaking fantastic.
03:57 This was PPV caliber, and this was just, simply put, fabulous wrestling.
04:02 All three men worked their asses off for this hot Orlando crowd, and in particular I really
04:07 like Jey White who was the one to use the no-DQ element of triple threat to his advantage,
04:13 bringing out a chair whenever he could to get the heat.
04:16 White was never able to fully capitalise on those heel ways, and Strickland came up short
04:20 with his incredible near-falls due to being an incredible wrestler, and it was Jon Moxley
04:24 who came out on top - not only getting revenge for his loss to White last week by pinning
04:29 him here, but also being arguably the most dominant performer in both the Blue and Gold
04:35 Leagues.
04:36 It was spectacular stuff, and a set up for a nice bit of drama for the finals of the
04:41 Blue League.
04:42 Will Moxley be facing off against his BCC teammate in Danielson, or will he go one-on-one
04:47 with his best friend and fiercest rival in Eddie Kingston?
04:51 I loved, loved, loved this.
04:53 And because that took up 30 minutes of the show, and we've got another near 25 minute
04:58 banger coming up in a bit, it's time to do all of the talking segments in a row.
05:03 Backstage Tony Schiavone interviewed Strickland about his loss, and he set up a World's
05:07 End match between Keith Lee, finally paying off that tag run.
05:10 Renee Paquette interviewed Mariah May on the stage, who said that she'll be making her
05:13 in-ring debut for AEW next week on the first Dynamite of 2024.
05:17 She was then attacked by Riho for attacking her last week, Tony Slom came out for a brawl,
05:21 and Riho stood tall.
05:22 I'm a poet, and I didn't even know I was rhyming those words, but it happened anyway.
05:26 Miss you Captain Holt.
05:27 Backstage, Top Flight and Action Andrade set up a Rampage match against Chaos, and Action
05:31 Andrade debuted his new gimmick.
05:33 He drinks water.
05:34 Really quickly.
05:35 I mean, it's seemingly impressive, but I reckon I could do that, you know?
05:39 Do you know what, let me stop this prompter.
05:41 Let me stop this prompter.
05:42 I'll give that a go.
05:43 Let's have a look.
05:44 I can't be that hard can I?
05:45 I can't, it's quite hard.
05:46 Yeah, fair playing lad.
05:47 Backstage, Top Flight and Action Andrade debuted his new gimmick.
05:48 He drinks water.
05:49 Really quickly.
05:50 I mean, it's seemingly impressive, but I reckon I could do that, you know?
05:51 Do you know what, let me stop this prompter.
05:52 Let me stop this prompter.
05:53 I'll give that a go.
05:54 Let's have a look.
05:55 I can't be that hard can I?
05:56 I can't, it's quite hard.
05:57 And Penultimate Talking segment in a row ended with the Don Cowers Family.
06:02 Remember in the week leading up to All In and it turned out that AR Fox couldn't travel
06:06 to the UK so they did a huge segment on Dynamite where they did about three angles in one that
06:10 saw a babyface turn and a friendship reunited and a new match made for the PPV?
06:14 Mr. Wembley, it happened again.
06:16 It's quite fitting reference.
06:17 Kenny Omega is out of action indefinitely.
06:20 Get better soon, Kenny.
06:21 And that means the scheduled tag match of Ricky Starks and Big Bill against the Golden
06:24 Jets couldn't take place.
06:26 So a new match needed to be made.
06:28 And in order to get to that point, this is what they did.
06:32 Tony Schiavone interviewed the Don Cowers Family who gave out Boxing Day presents, Sammy
06:35 Guevara made his return, Sammy Guevara turned babyface, the Don Cowers Family turned on
06:39 Sammy Guevara and kicked him out of the group, Chris Jericho ran out to make the save, Big
06:43 Bill and Ricky Starks ran down to attack Jericho, Sting and Darby Allin ran down to save Jericho
06:47 and Sammy Guevara, and Bob's your father's brother, we now have an eight man tag for
06:51 the PPV.
06:52 Did you get all that?
06:53 It was a bit messy.
06:54 It was a bit long.
06:55 I mean, it had to be.
06:56 It had ten people involved.
06:59 But it was helped by the crowd.
07:01 Unlike the Golden Jets segment a couple of weeks ago that got over like a fart in a church
07:05 because the crowd were not on board with the rather crap segment, this Orlando crowd provided
07:10 lots of heat for the DCF, great return reactions for Sammy and pops for Jericho, Sting and
07:14 Darby as well as boos for Starks and Billion.
07:17 So overall, it was a segment I guess.
07:21 And finally, Roderick Strong cut a backstage promo with an It's Always Sunny style board
07:25 that says MJF is the Devil.
07:27 Right, that's six talking segments in a row, 30 minutes of them.
07:31 In fact, I think we need some wrestling.
07:34 Oh good, Bryan Danielson's here.
07:36 Bryan Danielson is without question one of the best wrestlers on the planet - Game 4th
07:40 in our Wrestler of the Year, go check that out over on the WrestleTalk Podcast channel.
07:45 And Eddie Kingston might be one of my favourite wrestlers to ever step in the ring.
07:49 Because to Eddie, wrestling is real.
07:52 This is still real to him, damn it.
07:54 These two had a barn burner when Danielson first came into the company in 2021, then
07:58 they tore the house down in the Blue League two weeks ago.
08:01 And here in the final part of this trilogy, a trilogy where Eddie has never beaten Danielson,
08:07 they saved the best for last.
08:10 This was a perfect match, a brilliantly worked wrestling bout, and stiff as all get outs.
08:16 The heart of Kingston was enough to overcome the wrestling prowess of Bryan Danielson,
08:21 and he finally slayed the Dragon with a Kawada style powerbomb.
08:26 Beautiful, poetic, and downright brilliant.
08:30 This tournament has been so damn good.
08:32 And it's about to get even more dramatic, as Moxley came out to cut a promo on Kingston,
08:37 begging him to bring 100% and all he has this Saturday.
08:42 Eddie fired back in only that way that Eddie can, asking Moxley to bring all of his fighting
08:47 spirit because Eddie is going to enjoy busting it out of him.
08:51 I loved this.
08:53 I loved all of this.
08:54 And I cannot wait for World's End.
08:57 We were supposed to get an interview with Christian Cage and Adam Copeland, but Copeland
09:00 decided he'd rather re-enact his Lockdown Mania match with Randy Orton.
09:04 Sky Blue beat Chris Statland in a match that served a few different stories, and Renee
09:08 interviewed Sarea who is now friends with Harley Cameron whose gimmick is… she likes
09:12 knives.
09:13 Kay?
09:14 And the main event saw MJF lose the ROH Tag Team Championships to the Putty Patrol when
09:19 Samoa Joe was taken out backstage.
09:21 Look, I'm no fan of the World Champion taking a pin before the World Championship defence
09:27 at the PPV, I actually really hate it, but if I am to take just one grain of positivity
09:32 here, at least MJF doesn't have the ROH Tag titles anymore - which let's be honest
09:35 were dragging him down with Adam Cole not around.
09:38 The Putty Patrol used the numbers to win and Joe ran down to make the save, but it was
09:42 all a ruse to reveal that Samoa Joe has been working with the Devil this whole time, and
09:47 he laid out Max to stand tall ahead of the PPV.
09:51 A nice twist, but would have worked better - I personally think - if Joe turned on him
09:56 mid-match.
09:57 Overall, this was a show of some of the best wrestling you're going to see this year
10:01 in the C2, and a bunch of other stuff that will likely divide an audience.
10:05 This week's Dynamite is 3 out of 5.
10:07 Our end of year awards season is now over, so why not check out all of the shows by starting
10:11 with Wrestler of the Year.
