00:00 >> All right, questions?
00:04 >> Devontae, it feels like you guys are kind of legit getting to a point where
00:07 everybody can rely on everybody on this team.
00:09 You know, offense, defense, defense, offense.
00:12 Everybody's picked each other up at various points.
00:15 How good a feeling is that for
00:16 a team knowing that everybody's got each other to back?
00:19 >> It's a great feeling.
00:20 I mean, it's definitely the intention of the team.
00:23 I mean, pretty selfless team.
00:25 A lot of great players, obviously.
00:27 And I think we're starting to learn how to play together, all units together.
00:31 We just gotta still just figure out a way to play better on offense.
00:35 Our defense is playing really well right now, carrying the team.
00:37 And our special teams has been less out this year.
00:40 So we just gotta find a way to be more consistent, just so
00:42 we don't end up being that weak link of the squad, especially with the talent that
00:47 we have, so just finding a way to be more consistent.
00:51 >> Devontae, there were times you guys got wins earlier in the year, and
00:55 you had better numbers in those wins than you had in this win.
00:58 And you still weren't really satisfied with how the team played.
01:03 Why are you so much happier now with a win against the Chiefs than you were
01:08 earlier in the year?
01:08 >> It's the Chiefs.
01:12 I mean, that changes a lot.
01:13 It's a big game for us, big time of the year.
01:17 And then these are the ones where sometimes you just gotta get gritty and
01:21 just find a way to get the dub.
01:22 And you can correct things, but early in the season,
01:26 you're trying to establish an identity.
01:27 And you obviously don't wanna settle for a win like the one versus the Packers or
01:31 the Patriots.
01:31 Those aren't our standard of football.
01:33 And I don't think collectively that even this wasn't our best ball, but
01:38 it was definitely our best win of the year.
01:40 So sometimes you just gotta swallow your pride and
01:43 find a way to still be excited and joyful,
01:46 even though you didn't really maximize everything you could have done.
01:49 But still, it was definitely a good feeling.
01:52 >> Being able to beat the defending champs, is that just show you guys,
01:54 like, hey, any given Sunday, you guys can go and get that result and
01:57 potentially win out?
01:58 >> Yeah, I mean, I've been saying that all year.
02:00 It don't really matter who we are playing.
02:03 This team in particular, it kinda just depends on when we go out as that day.
02:09 That's how football is in the NFL.
02:11 It's not about how good you are, it's about how good you play.
02:13 So you can be the best team in the world, which is,
02:16 they have been for quite a bit of time now, but they weren't the only one that.
02:20 So that's how it works.
02:23 >> Do you give yourself a little time to look at what the various scenarios are?
02:26 I mean, you guys have played your way into a position where there's things out
02:30 there to play for now.
02:32 >> I mean, you hear about it, but I don't really get too focused on that,
02:35 especially when it's a situation where we most likely have to win all the games.
02:40 You can't get too focused on all that other stuff,
02:42 because if you start worrying about what other people are doing.
02:46 If you win a game, it's the last game of the year, and
02:48 then you wanna watch and see if the team beats the team to help you out.
02:52 That's one thing, but I think just being focused in the moment is what got us to
02:56 win our last two, so we just gotta stick to that formula.
03:00 >> People talk perfect stuff, victory cigars, all that stuff, but
03:03 preparation wise, what difference has Antonio made football wise,
03:08 just on a day to day basis football wise?
03:10 >> I mean, everything we do, we just do it with a purpose.
03:13 And you can tell him being a former player,
03:16 he's not really into all the extra stuff just to do it.
03:20 It's all very intentional, everything that we do.
03:22 And the mindset that he brings, having a certain coach sometimes can just
03:29 allow certain players to realize their potential and
03:32 continue to go and beat where they're supposed to be.
03:34 And I think you can see with our defense the way they're running around now.
03:38 We got a lot of guys that made some plays this year, but
03:40 you watch the way that those guys work and compete to get after the ball carrier in
03:45 that game, it's just definitely different than it was before.
03:49 So having him leading those guys out there and
03:52 sharing a few words, a few stories, whatever, it's clearly paid off.
03:57 >> It's about that he talks about being a Raider, embodying that Raider spirit,
04:01 talking the talk, all that.
04:02 But you also look at the fact that you guys are the least penalized team in
04:05 the NFL, and it just feels like there's an understanding amongst players.
04:09 Yeah, freedom still comes with some responsibility.
04:12 It's not just being free and being crazy out there, but doing it responsibly.
04:16 >> Yeah. >> Do you feel like he's tapped into
04:18 that?
04:19 >> Yeah, I mean, he's just preached it.
04:22 He's preached for guys to play fast, play with their hair on fire, and
04:27 play instinctually.
04:28 And rather than playing scared,
04:30 I don't really see anybody moving around timid out there like I was before.
04:33 So that makes a huge difference in the way you're allowed to execute.
04:38 And you do things that typically if you're in control and
04:40 you're playing as fast as you can, it's gonna be to your advantage.
04:45 You're not gonna end up playing with penalties and holding and
04:48 a lot of the things that we struggled with last year or earlier on in the season.
04:51 So just the way you talk to your guys is a useful tool, and
04:56 it's definitely, he's done a good job with that.
04:58 >> There was a lot of talk in the media about how well the team performs on
05:02 Christmas Day will have a lot to do with Antonio keeping the job going forward.
05:05 How much did that play a factor in your head, with giving that extra effort, and
05:10 how much do you think it played in the team's head to go out there and play?
05:13 >> Well, I think it's just more about, I don't know if the team's like, let's go
05:18 and ball out for AD to get the job.
05:20 That's not really the thought process of the guys, but
05:23 it's more about playing as hard as you can for the man himself.
05:27 And then those things kind of work themselves out.
05:29 So it definitely gave him a better shot, and I'm definitely rooting for him.
05:34 I mean, I love the guy, I love what he's brought.
05:36 His mentality, his passion for the game is undeniable.
05:42 You can see it every single day.
05:43 His evolution as far as even speaking to the team,
05:47 just the head coachness of the deal is something that you kinda gotta learn.
05:51 And kinda coming to your own, same as being a captain on a team or
05:56 leader on a team, you gotta learn a way to lead men.
05:59 And he's done a great job of that.
06:01 He's been, ever since he spoke to us when we had our little deal before Josh left,
06:07 and we left a lasting impression on everybody, definitely me.
06:10 And I think we connected with him.
06:13 >> Devontae, take us inside the huddle as one of the leaders of this team.
06:16 How do you handle when the team or the offense isn't moving the way it's supposed
06:18 to? Do you say something?
06:19 Do you not say something?
06:20 Does it differ from game to game?
06:21 How does that work for you?
06:23 >> Yeah, it's not the same every time.
06:24 You kinda, depends on what it is, you gotta read the room too,
06:28 see where everybody is mentally.
06:31 Sometimes you can see it in guys' eyes that it's a little,
06:34 a lot going on in their head.
06:37 And those are the times we usually speak up.
06:39 But everybody's out there trying to do the right thing.
06:41 So it's not like you're in a huddle barking or anything like that.
06:44 It's more sidelines is when you do that type of stuff.
06:48 Timeouts will sometimes speak to each other.
06:51 But for the most part, everybody's locked in and confident in the huddle.
06:54 So it's not too much that needs to go on in there.
06:56 But obviously, you look at the production of the offense and
06:59 you think that we need to say something.
07:01 But that's not really the time.
07:03 You don't really have too much time anyway.
07:05 You gotta call in and get to the line.
07:07 So like I said, when we get to the sideline, that's something that we try to do.
07:12 And make sure we figure out whatever we need to figure out, whether it's calls or
07:16 getting somebody's mind right or whatever it is.
07:18 >> Is there something about Aiden's demeanor, humble or tough,
07:21 that maybe the team would get more irritated with another quarterback
07:26 not being able to complete a pass for a few quarters.
07:28 But with him, his temperament, is it something that stops that from happening?
07:32 >> No, I mean, look, this is a very tough game.
07:40 This was a weird game in itself.
07:42 And it's something that, I mean, what is it gonna do?
07:44 The best quarterback or most experienced or most inexperienced,
07:48 it's not gonna help getting out there and putting the extra pressure and
07:51 showing frustration or coming down on somebody.
07:54 So regardless of what his temperament is like or his personality,
07:57 that has nothing to do with it.
07:59 We're just doing what's best for any quarterback and
08:01 trying to be the best teammates that we can.
08:03 Help a young, inexperienced guy who's trying to play against one of the best
08:07 quarterbacks the game has seen.
08:09 It's not gonna be an easy matchup, so we try to do the best job we can of keeping
08:14 his mind right and making sure he stays confident even when it's tough times like
08:19 that, that he didn't draw it up the way that it ended up.
08:22 But we got the dub, so it's something that we can learn from him.
08:26 >> You guys have a pretty young secondary, but how have you seen them grow from some
08:30 of the guys on the team last year to training camp this year,
08:32 all the way to being able to do what they did against Patrick Mahomes?
08:36 >> Yeah, man, I mean, it's a bunch of dogs out there.
08:39 When you got some dogs, whether young, old, or in between,
08:42 it kinda doesn't matter.
08:44 You gotta just turn it on and
08:46 only as you're confident out there flying around and playing that position.
08:49 I mean, other than quarterbacks,
08:50 probably the most difficult position to play out there.
08:53 So I'm proud of those guys and the way they've been flying around and tackling,
08:57 catching the ball, and scoring touchdowns, helping us out too.
09:00 So we all work on this thing together.
