00:43 attack quick again. The boys who have watched West Ham a lot, over a few years we were a
00:49 bit like that and we were pretty good at it. We've not been quite as sharp but I think
00:54 the new players we've got, the ability to make passes and play people in behind.
00:59 So I have to say it was a brilliant performance, team performance. All the players worked defensively,
01:05 done a brilliant job. Especially with a couple of set and a half's out tonight, Luis Paquette
01:10 with an injury as well. So it didn't make the night so easy.
01:15 Arsenal had a record number of touches in the opposition box without scoring. What does
01:21 that say about the way you defended?
01:26 I thought we defended really, really well. I'm sure you read Diego Simeone's comments
01:34 probably about a month ago talking about the Premier League defending and he thought the
01:39 games were too much 4-3's and 5-4's. I took it up and I thought it was right because obviously
01:45 everybody wants the goals. But there's another part of football and it's to be really good
01:50 defensively. Be hard to beat, hard to break down and I think we showed that tonight.
01:56 You mentioned it earlier, the performance of your two centre-backs, you haven't played
02:00 much together, haven't played much in the league this season.
02:04 I would mention Angelo first because Angelo I believe has never let me down. Always played,
02:11 always ready to play, great professional. Doesn't play that often tonight and he's come
02:17 in and he's done the job, defended his box brilliantly well. I thought Dino's played
02:21 really well as well, gets a great goal. So I thought the two centre-halves who came in
02:27 have done a good job.
02:28 Four points off the top four now, do you have a good time to sort your new contract out?
02:41 I'm just going to go back tonight and enjoy a glass of red wine when I get in and sit
02:45 back. There's plenty of time to talk about that, we're not in any, none of us are in
02:48 a great rush. We can get that done when we're ready. I'm enjoying my time. We came back
02:56 here to make sure West Ham didn't get relegated, I think that was about three or four years
03:01 ago now. I think since then we've grown and I think the team are growing, getting better.
03:09 We'll not be challenging all the top teams all the time because we're not dining at that
03:14 table but we're coming now and again to these teams and giving them a game.
03:19 You said in your interview straight after the game that the agreement was close?
03:25 No I didn't say that, no.
03:27 But after beating Arsenal is a good time to maybe get up there and the chairman's asking?
03:32 It's fine, we're fine. I got on really well with the board, I've got a great relationship
03:36 with the board and all the people connected. And they're thrilled as well, they're delighted
03:41 that the team's going strong in the league and going strong in Europe. So we're all in
03:48 a good place at the moment.
03:49 How was Piquet?
03:50 I don't know if you saw it, I just mentioned it, you probably saw him, he got injured in
03:56 the warm-up and it's something at the back of his knee but we don't know. The decision
04:01 was do I start him, do I not, how he gets strapped up, he said he wanted to give it
04:05 a go but I could tell the minute I was looking at him he was right in front of me and he
04:08 never really got up to speed. But even the 15 minutes or so he was on, he's a really
04:15 really good player, really important player for us. Can hold the ball up, can wait, bring
04:21 other people, give people time to get up and support. He's a really good player and we
04:24 missed him, we missed him for other points. I thought Said came on and did a good job,
04:29 part of the defensive job as well. But as you well know, the boys who've watched us
04:32 look at Piquet as hugely important to us as far as creating goals, making goals as well.
04:37 Thomas Sieneczek in this season is completely different to what was going on last year,
04:42 how important is it to have him getting in those positions?
04:45 Yeah, well nearer the start of the season we played him a little bit further forward,
04:49 we've not done it quite so much in recent games. It's a lot to do with the opposition
04:53 in the teams we've been playing but for him to get in the box and get up and get another
04:57 goal is great. I think he's got about eight goals now, Thomas. So long may it continue
05:04 and he's playing really well, Thomas. He's doing great for the team, great team player.
05:09 Did you ever feel the first goal?
05:12 No, I've been asked about it and actually I hadn't even thought about it. I don't know,
05:17 you've seen more than I've seen, I don't know. I just got the reaction from the players that
05:23 nobody thought for a minute that there was anything up with the goal and I couldn't think
05:26 there was, there certainly wasn't an offside or anything from where I was. But you think
05:31 you're celebrating and enjoying it and then the screen comes up and you go 'oh my goodness
05:35 what we're waiting on'. But it must have been close because of the time they took. So whether
05:43 it went our way or not I'm hoping they got to the right decision and if they got to the
05:47 right decision then the goal was correct.
