Ladd McConkey Talks NFL Draft Decision and What is Next for Him
Transcript
00:00 >> More confidence next year, played a lot of ball, so that's huge.
00:04 Anytime you can get a starting quarterback back, whether with Stetson coming back,
00:09 Carson coming back now, I know they're super thankful for it.
00:13 >> What was the biggest difference you felt, not specifically with Stetson, but
00:17 just in general, having a quarterback from 21 to 22 where you guys had worked
00:22 together, just having that kind of connection,
00:24 what was the biggest difference you felt as a receiver?
00:27 >> I guess having a returning starting quarterback,
00:30 what was the biggest difference between year one with that person and year two?
00:35 >> Yeah, it's just more reps in the bank.
00:37 I mean, at the end of the day, if you throw more with that quarterback,
00:40 your time is gonna be better.
00:42 They know what you're gonna do, you know what they're gonna do,
00:44 you know what to expect from them.
00:46 So yeah, just getting more reps, I think, is the main thing.
00:49 >> That's something especially probably our audience would,
00:51 how helpful were you in this situation?
00:55 >> I mean, I definitely didn't feel like I wanted to, but at the end of the day,
01:01 I was out there, I was playing, they expected me to get the job done.
01:05 I did at times and I didn't at times, so it is what it is.
01:09 Didn't feel the best, but I wanted to be out there and help my guys.
01:13 >> Where would you say your health is as a comparison?
01:16 >> Yeah, I mean, I'm feeling a lot better.
01:19 I don't know how I'd compare it on a scale of 1 to 100 or anything like that, but
01:23 I know I'm getting better.
01:25 Each day I feel more confident, so I'm excited.
01:28 >> Have you made any health practices?
01:31 >> Not yet.
01:31 >> No idea of how long your future there?
01:33 >> Not yet.
01:34 >> Kind of a softball question we have to ask as a football.
01:38 What would go into that decision for a senior like yourself who has an opportunity
01:42 to come back next year?
01:43 What kind of sets your draft right now?
01:46 >> Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, I guess it really just comes down to,
01:49 I mean, I like to lean on my family, first off,
01:54 see what they decide, see what they think.
01:55 I've trusted them my whole life, so I'm gonna trust them in this also.
01:59 And it really just kinda depends on whether I wanna come back.
02:03 I feel like I haven't done enough here, if I need to do more.
02:06 If I wanna spend another year with my guys, if I wanna go on to the next chapter.
02:11 I mean, there's a lot of things that goes into it.
02:12 So after this, I'm gonna sit down, weigh it out, and figure everything out.
02:16 >> I mean, you were very aware of your ranking about high school.
02:19 You were a late offer kid, a late commitment kid at Emerson, Georgia.
02:23 Did you ever imagine you'd be having this decision?
02:26 I guess, did you think you were gonna be this, I wanna imagine?
02:31 >> I mean, for me to sit up here and be like, yeah, yeah, I knew it.
02:34 That's not really realistic.
02:37 I mean, I believed in myself, obviously, I knew what I could do.
02:39 But I mean, until it happens, you don't really know.
02:43 You never know how it's gonna pan out.
02:45 But I knew I was gonna work for it.
02:47 And I wish you'd give it everything I had.
02:48 And if it worked out, it did.
02:50 And if it didn't, I knew I'd put everything into it.
02:52 So I'm super blessed to be in this position.
02:56 It's a good decision to have.
02:57 Yeah, hopefully I'm at the right one.
03:00 >> Luntin Lundin joined y'all recently.
03:01 What stands out to you already about a player like that?
03:04 >> Yeah, he can roll.
03:06 He's fast, he's smart, has good routes, good hands, catches the ball well.
03:11 I'm super excited to see what he's gonna be able to do.
03:13 I know he scored, he had that touchdown against us.
03:16 I was like, dang, that kid is rolling.
03:18 So yeah, I mean, already what I've seen, I know he's a good pitcher.
03:22 >> And I don't know if you've watched much of Kobe yet, but
03:24 just if you have, what stands out to you about him as well?
03:27 >> Who'd you say, I'm sorry?
03:27 >> Kobe Young.
03:28 >> Yeah, I mean, yeah, those guys are coming in and working so hard already.
03:33 Like, as you come in as freshman, mid-year, whatever, you're like, okay,
03:37 let me go prove myself, let me go see what I can do.
03:39 And all those guys are taking that approach, and
03:42 they're gonna be special players for me.
