00:00 Manila LGU has confiscated hundreds of kilos of meat from different markets.
00:05 Some were even caught red-handed.
00:09 Darlene Cai reports.
00:11 The Manila Veterinary Inspection Board
00:18 has arrested meat vendors in several markets in Manila earlier today.
00:22 They were each looking for a valid permit.
00:25 The meat vendors were caught red-handed, just like here in Bloomingtree Market.
00:31 In Divisoria, however, this man has no valid permit to deliver a tricycle full of chicken.
00:40 The meat is not yet valid.
00:42 The chicken is just wrapped in a cloth, without a cover.
00:47 It should have plastic and proper papers.
00:52 The man is a deliveryman.
00:55 He said the chicken has a permit, but he was not able to deliver it.
00:59 I was able to deliver it, but I was left behind because there was a car.
01:03 Where were you left behind?
01:04 In Bloomingtree.
01:05 Did you tie it there?
01:07 Yes, I tied it there.
01:08 I was able to deliver it, but I was in a hurry, so I forgot.
01:14 But that explanation did not help the meat inspectors.
01:17 He was caught red-handed when he delivered 150 whole chickens weighing 200 kilos.
01:22 In Paco Market, however, the authorities caught red-handed when they were lighting up some meat stalls.
01:28 The more high-tech ones were lighting up with different colors.
01:33 This is usually used to make the meat look fresh.
01:37 It is prohibited in the city of Manila to put up these devices.
01:43 That is why we do this almost every day.
01:48 You should not put up these if you are selling fresh meat.
01:52 They are giving up to three warnings to the meat vendors to put up lights with different colors.
01:58 After the third violation, the Manila LGU will start their sales.
02:04 This is a routine inspection by the Manila VIB.
02:08 It is important that the meat vendors have a permit.
02:11 This is the only way to ensure that the food will be clean and safe for the meat vendors.
02:17 If there is no permit, it means that the meat is being tied outside.
02:21 Which is prohibited.
02:24 Aside from the meat collection, one of the things the authorities are monitoring is the handling,
02:30 or proper handling and processing of the meat.
02:33 This place in Paco Market is open again,
02:36 which went viral after the meat vendors were first to party.
02:42 The owner is now moving to another place.
02:45 The drainage is now covered so that the meat vendors cannot pass.
02:49 It is also not as clean as before.
