00:00 So I'm talking to Fran Belbin who's deputy leader of Sheffield City Council, very involved
00:06 in issues around governance and the future of the city, of the council. Tell me Fran
00:12 why you think more citizens need to be involved in the work of the city council?
00:16 I think first of all they're asking to be involved and we've seen that quite clearly
00:20 when we commissioned the involved report to talk to citizens about how they perhaps want
00:26 to get engaged more with the council. A really clear message came back that they want to
00:31 be part of setting our agendas and helping us actually to make good decisions and I think
00:37 from our perspective as a council more citizen involvement, particularly at the early stages
00:44 around making our plans and making our decisions will lead to better decision making, we'll
00:49 get better outcomes through involving people who've got lived experiences of the circumstances
00:56 that are under debate, we'll get better outcomes as a result of them being involved.
