01:01 Your Excellency Xi Jinping, President
01:25 of the People's Republic of China,
01:30 and the First Lady, honorable ministers,
01:36 and senior government officials, members
01:42 of the diplomatic corps, distinguished ladies
01:46 and gentlemen, good afternoon and welcome.
01:52 [APPLAUSE]
01:55 Now that the formal part of this historic state visit
02:05 is successfully being concluded, we
02:13 have a moment to relax and enjoy each other's company.
02:21 I also want to say a few words from the heart.
02:26 The growing relationship with China
02:32 is based as much on mutual respect
02:36 as on mutual interests.
02:42 That is evident, first of all, in your personal commitment
02:50 to our continent, Mr. President.
02:54 [APPLAUSE]
02:59 More generally, China relates to Africa as an equal.
03:06 We see ourselves as a people on the road to prosperity.
03:14 China's actions demonstrate that, President, you
03:21 see us in the same way.
03:25 This is a revolutionary posture in world affairs,
03:30 and it is more precious than money.
03:36 Mr. President, in your moving letter to Rwandans,
03:41 published a few days ago, you quoted a Chinese poem
03:48 about how friends recognize each other,
03:52 no matter how great the distance.
03:58 I was struck by the parallel you drew
04:03 between the historical suffering our countries have endured
04:10 and how those experiences have shaped
04:15 our respective national characters
04:19 and our determination to protect and extend
04:24 the gains we have made.
04:29 If we are able to recognize ourselves in each other,
04:35 even in our most tragic chapters,
04:41 it means that we will be firm friends and partners
04:49 in the best of times as well.
04:54 On that note, Mr. President, and your distinguished
05:04 delegation and First Lady, please
05:09 find the closest glass, preferably
05:16 filled with a liquid of your choice,
05:26 and join me in the toast to the health of His Excellency Xi
05:34 Jinping and the First Lady and the delegation
05:40 and to the enduring friendship between the peoples of China,
05:46 Rwanda, and Africa as a whole.
05:51 Thank you, and once again, most welcome.
05:55 And please come back in the nearest future.
