01:23 Well, Sengita is much more than just accommodation.
01:27 Sengita is a vision, it's an experience, anchored on conservation,
01:35 hospitality, and the empowerment, really, of local communities.
01:43 I believe that the hundreds of local contractors that have made
01:47 the logs that you see around you possible really only can confirm
01:52 that this is part of the environment.

03:01 Three, two, one.
03:06 [APPLAUSE]
03:09 We are immensely delighted about this day.
03:13 This day is an addition to our tourism offering in this country,
03:17 and we believe that what Sengita has done today very much compliments
03:21 what we are trying to do in our country, which is to promote conservation
03:25 as well as sustainable economic development.
03:28 We see that Rwanda today receives more tourists than ever before,
03:34 but we also see that these tourists are becoming very demanding
03:37 for unique experiences that are nature-best and that are very special.
03:41 We believe that this addition that Sengita brings on the market
03:44 very much complements what the market is demanding
03:47 and also what the country is trying to achieve.
03:50 So thank you very much, Sengita, for joining this economy.
03:54 As much as possible, Sengita tried to use local content,
03:57 which we really appreciate, and which also shows that our local products
04:02 and local services can actually be used to contribute to world-class luxury.
04:05 So thank you.
04:07 I now just want to finish with some words of appreciation.
04:10 First, to you, Mr. President, thank you very much for continuously
04:14 building Rwanda to become attractive for investments,
04:17 as you have always tirelessly done.
04:20 First of all, the security, the safety, the business environment,
04:24 the community empowerment, all these examples that you continue
04:28 to lead our institutions to deliver is very much appreciated
04:32 by the business community such as Sengita.
04:34 To Sengita and to Paul Milton, thank you very much for choosing Rwanda.
04:38 Today marks the culmination of a five-year journey.
04:42 I was asked to go and meet with His Excellency,
04:45 and His Excellency said we really would like a high-end business here,
04:51 tourism business here in our country.
04:54 You go and find what you want and we'll make it happen.
04:57 And true to your word, Your Excellency, that's exactly what you did,
05:00 and I cannot thank you enough for that.
05:02 It's been an absolute pleasure dealing with you and your country.
05:05 It normally takes five years for lodge occupancies to reach steady state.
05:10 I'm delighted to share with you that Sengita, KwaTonda, and Kataza House
05:15 has achieved close to 90% occupancies in the first two months
05:19 after we opened today, and is already 55% booked for the rest of this year.
05:23 This is highly unusual.
05:26 Your Excellency, we hope that we have exceeded your and Rwanda's expectations,
05:30 and that Sengita's presence will attract a new and influential market to your country,
05:35 thereby enhancing your vision for tourism.
05:38 Furthermore, we hope we have set a new standard for development and investment.
05:42 Thank you, Rwanda, and to all of you for joining us on this special day.
05:47 And now I'd like to hand over to His Excellency, Paul Kuwama.
05:51 [Applause]
05:55 It's an absolute pleasure for me to join you here today.
06:03 Congratulations on a job well done.
06:07 [Applause]
06:14 You know, as I said earlier, when we were talking about high end,
06:20 a property like this to be built in Rwanda,
06:26 the conversation was about that being possible.
06:31 Now I discover that this is a higher end than the end I was talking about.
06:43 [Laughter and applause]
06:49 So it has exceeded my expectation.
06:52 [Applause]
06:57 And I have a tendency to keep my expectations very high,
07:03 but this one has gone beyond that.
07:07 Sengita is one of the world's top hotel brands,
07:14 and Rwanda is happy to be associated with the company.
07:21 And I think you've raised Rwanda's brand as well, so we thank you.
07:29 [Applause]
07:33 We need to work together to keep adding value to this asset
07:41 that has been put in our hands by the gracious investors.
07:49 So we want everyone to be happy, and we will play our part.
07:55 And we look forward to working together with Sengita and the partners
08:02 in the years ahead to deliver an unforgettable product
08:08 built on Rwanda's unique attractions.
08:15 So, thank you very much.
08:18 Wish you the best.
08:20 [Applause]
08:23 [Music]
08:52 [Music]
09:07 [Applause]
09:11 Welcome to Sengita!
