  • last year
The new storms in Queensland could further delay efforts to reconnect power to properties effected by wild weather in recent days. About 28,000 homes and businesses are without electricity, most in south-east Queensland. Queensland premier Steven Miles says while going without power can be frustrating the safety of emergency crews is paramount.

00:00 To those families who continue to be without power, that's about 28,000 households, to
00:08 them I want to reassure them that everyone is absolutely focused on reconnecting their
00:13 electricity just as quickly as we can safely do so.
00:18 We expect further thunderstorms throughout today and the Bureau has briefed us that some
00:23 of those could be severe and the first priority has to be the safety of our emergency service
00:29 paid and volunteer staff as well as our energy workers and so those storms today could well
00:36 delay those reconnection timeframes, although we do still expect that most people will be
00:41 reconnected by the 5th of January, that's Friday.
00:46 If you need assistance, please do contact the SES hotline.
00:52 They are prioritising tasks but we are seeing on social media some people commenting that
00:57 they have not yet been contacted or received assistance and so if you're in that situation,
01:04 please do contact the hotline so that we can make sure that you're in the system.
