03:40 We will now invite all our winners
03:43 and esteemed awardees to take a group photo
03:46 to mark this exciting occasion,
03:48 after which we shall have the keynote remarks
03:52 from His Excellency.
03:54 [Applause]
03:57 A good evening to all of you.
04:00 [Applause]
04:06 I would have spoken without a piece of paper in my hand,
04:10 but since I'm meeting very important people,
04:18 the young people, the winners of today,
04:21 and the other people, but very important,
04:27 who are here, especially those
04:31 who made this event possible.
04:37 My job is mainly to acknowledge all of you.
04:46 And I want to mention people's names,
04:56 so I don't want to forget any names.
05:01 So that's why I have a piece of paper in my hand.
05:08 But definitely, I'm just thrilled, very pleased
05:18 to be here, joining you for this very happy moment.
05:27 And having had all you had today,
05:33 I join you in recognizing the five startups
05:45 that have received awards in this first-ever event
05:56 of Hangar Peach Fest.
06:06 So I thank the diplomats who are here,
06:14 guests from across the world.
06:20 I thank you for joining us and also for being part of
06:26 this very beautiful day.
06:38 This is a very interesting and excellent initiative.
06:47 And I commend all institutions involved,
06:53 as well as the youth who have spent the day here,
07:00 learning about entrepreneurship and innovation.
07:07 And as I said earlier, this is just the beginning.
07:10 So I think more is going to be done,
07:14 and more is going to be achieved as we go forward.
07:20 So let me acknowledge the generous sponsors
07:26 who have made this event possible.
07:31 They include Isaac Fisher,
07:37 Chairperson of the Rwanda Development Board,
07:44 UNDP, represented here by Mr. Maxwell Gomera,
07:58 the JASIRI program of the Ellen and Jill Gray Philanthropy,
08:09 KT Rwanda Networks.
08:16 I'm sure there are others probably I didn't put on my list,
08:25 but they are where they want to be added on the list
08:30 by the next event we hold here.
08:38 So I welcome them and I congratulate them in advance as well.
08:49 Numerous other associate partners have made notable contributions.
09:01 I go back to the finalists.
09:03 I congratulate you all.
09:07 I hope you are as proud as we are for you.
09:19 Technology and innovation are driving Rwanda's transformation.
09:28 Not enough yet.
09:30 So that's why I want more of it.
09:33 I want to do more.
09:40 Because if you want to drive the future based on knowledge,
09:47 which is very important,
09:50 and by the way, which is available in any part of the world you go to,
09:57 it just depends on how you are ready to tap into that.
10:05 The difference will be made by how you focus on it,
10:10 you invest in it,
10:13 and see it with that importance it holds.
10:22 The Hangar Pitchfest has equipped all those who participated
10:33 with new tools to help you grow your companies.
10:44 I want to encourage you to take full advantage of the programs and services
10:52 in our country to help start-up entrepreneurs succeed.
11:03 I want to single out an example of Norsken, East Africa,
11:17 which just launched a health tech hub,
11:24 and we offer 20 Rwandan start-ups a platform
11:30 to solve some of Africa's health challenges.
11:37 Congratulations, and we appreciate that contribution.
11:46 More public-private partnerships will be needed
11:53 to accelerate the growth of this ecosystem,
11:59 particularly in higher education and research.
12:05 The most successful start-ups are rooted in science, research, and technology.
12:21 In all advanced economies,
12:26 eventually which we want ours to be,
12:31 the linkages between universities and entrepreneurship
12:36 are deep and productive.
12:40 In Africa, it's not going to be any different.
12:51 To all the sponsors and partners here with us today,
12:58 once again I would like to take this opportunity
13:03 to thank you for your commitment and all the resources and your time
13:13 you put into this.
13:18 We still have a long way to go,
13:22 but let's continue working together to see tangible results.
13:30 I would wish for the finalists great success going forward.
13:43 You have all our full support, including those who did not succeed.
13:49 We want them to succeed next time.
13:57 So I wish you a very happy evening,
14:05 and please be and stay safe,
14:11 and let's work hard going forward.
14:14 Thank you very much.
