00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:02 Hi, I'm Nancy.
00:03 Hey, it's Arun here.
00:05 And welcome to Hens.
00:06 We'll take you on a tour of our offices.
00:08 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:11 Hens is a technology company based here
00:19 in Kigali, Rwanda that seeks to create
00:22 a fair, efficient, and transformative knowledge
00:24 economy for people everywhere.
00:26 What that means is that we're building technology
00:29 that allows companies to make better decisions about which
00:33 lawyers at the moment they should be using so that they
00:36 can save money, they can select better, and get more value out
00:41 of their lawyers.
00:42 Yeah, so the technology that we're building
00:44 is a single platform.
00:46 And what that platform does is it integrates data
00:49 from a variety of sources--
00:50 your existing company data, the publicly available information
00:54 out there, and everything that's in your head.
00:57 It captures that in a single system
00:59 that allows you to easily maneuver, search, filter,
01:04 and find the information you need much more easily.
01:07 As a company, we realize that the legal space is something
01:11 that has not been tapped into.
01:13 And because of that, we want to be
01:14 able to build a solution that not only is
01:17 built from the continent, but is mostly targeted
01:21 towards the global economy.
01:24 So because of that, the legal frame
01:26 seems to be the one that we want to tackle and take care of
01:30 at this specific moment.
01:32 And so far, it's really going well with the data.
01:35 And of course, we're using AI to back that up as well.
01:39 When we were initially building out the company,
01:42 we talked to executives at the largest companies in the world.
01:46 And the pain point was very, very clear with legal.
01:50 People were spending billions of dollars,
01:52 hundreds of millions of dollars on legal,
01:54 and felt like they were constantly being ripped off
01:56 by their lawyers.
01:57 They didn't know who they should be using for specific cases.
02:01 And so time and time again, it felt like that problem
02:03 was very clear.
02:04 So we decided we would go ahead and build a solution for that.
02:07 Considering the Rwandan market, one thing
02:14 that we have noticed as a challenge
02:16 is most people use referrals when it comes to either law
02:19 firms or lawyers.
02:21 And because of that, that's something
02:22 that we want to be able to tap into and help people
02:24 understand, hey, these are the lawyers that you
02:27 can use with this specific area.
02:30 And because of that, that's also something that keeps growing.
02:34 Because within the Rwandan market and African market,
02:37 the way the law area hasn't grown as much
02:42 as we've seen globally.
02:43 And that's also something that we
02:44 want to be able to contribute to,
02:47 to be able for people to have that space to work around.
02:52 So the main problem that we face,
02:55 that we see that companies and organizations face,
02:58 is that often they're using a lot of different lawyers,
03:02 a lot of different cases, a lot of matters.
03:04 And they don't really know who is
03:06 good for which kinds of things.
03:08 They maybe know it in their head.
03:09 Someone has it in their head.
03:11 But then if that person leaves the company,
03:13 that information is lost.
03:15 So we help build a single source of truth
03:17 that allows you to better understand
03:20 who is good, who is not, evaluate them quantitatively,
03:24 and also have access to more lawyers, more people,
03:28 that you would otherwise not consider using.
03:30 So it's really about helping people make decisions better
03:35 through more data and through a better source
03:39 of understanding.
