Super7 Star Trek The Next Generation Ultimates Riker 7 Inch Action Figure
Transcript
00:00 well you're gonna start anywhere with Star Trek you might as well start at
00:03 number one here's look at the brand new super 7 Star Trek ultimates commander
00:07 William T Riker
00:10 As first officer aboard the USS Enterprise D William Riker's second
00:38 command but is commonly referred to as number one by his captain Jean-Luc
00:41 Picard. Not one to set the sidelines Riker is a confident brash Starfleet
00:45 officer known for taking unconventional approaches to problems and unafraid to
00:49 challenge the chain of command. His competitive nature extends to his off
00:52 hours where he frequently convenes his crewmates in poker games or ambojitsu
00:57 matches. Picard must be on a way mission right now if Riker's helming the bridge
01:01 let's hope he doesn't crash the saucer section this time. Before of course we
01:05 get a closer look at the brand new Star Trek ultimates Riker let's go ahead and
01:09 grab of course the tape measure I'm already doing it and let's find out
01:11 first how tall the figure stands. I did actually find the entire first wave at
01:15 Entertainment Earth if you guys are interested you can click the link down
01:18 below in the video description not only will take you to the link of Riker but
01:22 also as well save you 10% that's anything that's currently on site in
01:25 stock over on Entertainment Earth right now. Commander Riker though stands
01:29 exactly 7 inches in height or the figures gonna be about 18 centimeters
01:33 tall. Now I can tell you right away one thing I'm liking about this line so far
01:37 is the paint applications that looks a lot like Riker it's certainly a far cry
01:41 and I'm gonna be bringing him in as an example from the GI Joe series to or
01:45 wave to Flint a figure I was really hoping to have a really good-looking
01:48 release and unfortunately under delivered a bit on the paint. You can
01:52 really see though where Super 7 dropped the ball when it came to the second wave
01:55 of GI Joe figures and where they've now reclaimed the ball with the newest wave
01:58 of Star Trek ultimates. Beaming down now the accessories to come include with the
02:03 commander first the figure comes included with the tiny little doll of
02:07 Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Captain Picard a day I don't know I think the
02:12 resemblance is rather striking wouldn't you agree number one what a nice little
02:16 accessory I'm never really gonna be displaying this with commander white
02:20 Riker but the fact that super 7 would even take the time to actually include
02:23 the little tiny captain is a nice little touch on their part of course there's no
02:27 possibility on the tiny little doll of Picard but the fact that they again they
02:30 would include that it's a really nice touch the figure also comes include with
02:34 a lot of references to poker and I'm just looking at also data I also picked
02:38 up at the same time as Riker and he also comes in clue with some poker inspired
02:42 accessories we also picked up or I picked up at least locutus and obviously
02:47 being the fact he's a Borg and I don't suspect that he's playing card games in
02:50 the cube he's not gonna come include with any poker accessories but Riker
02:54 actually comes included not only with a stack of cards getting closer look at
02:58 that molded nicely even to the point where they actually sculpted the
03:01 sections of where the card we separated obviously you can't remove the cards
03:04 it's just basically a big hunk of plastic but nicely printed both on the
03:08 top and on the bottom as well you can see it's the ace of diamonds I don't
03:12 know why they referenced ace of diamonds I don't know if it has anything to really
03:15 do with an episode of Star Trek or it's just a hidden joke or inside joke at
03:19 super 7 still you got an ace of diamonds there on the bottom of the revealed card
03:23 he also comes in clue with a fanned out bunch of cards now the fan cards do come
03:28 in clue with the Jack the Queen the King the ace and the ten all seeming to be in
03:32 spades I will say though getting this out of the packaging this was already
03:36 attached to his hand but then removing it from the tray it actually broke the
03:40 cards off it looked to be the case that they're probably glued in between the
03:44 thumb and the pointer and was just the case that the cards fell off I mean it's
03:48 not to the point where they're necessarily well it's broken in the
03:51 sense that it was really supposed to be permanently attached on to the hand but
03:54 I mean obviously I can easily just slide this back onto his hand and have it
03:57 displayed that way and of course you can have the figure displayed holding the
04:00 card so close to his face he's really good at poker facing as well the rest of
04:05 the crew but again I all again poker references in a way I kind of feel like
04:10 they could probably have used some of the accessory plastic that dedicate to
04:14 other episodes specific accessories but be fair as well I mean I think he comes
04:18 with everything he needs to come he doesn't come include for example with a
04:21 tricorder I think data comes include with a tricorder he comes included
04:24 though with a type I believe it's a type 2 hand phaser molded nicely here in
04:28 silver plastic it's got the buttons and the dials where you'd expect the buttons
04:32 and the dials to be really a nice little representation of the type 2 I think it's
04:36 a type 2 phaser he also comes in glue with a hand specifically for holding the
04:40 phaser it's this hand right here see how it's kind of got a little bit of an
04:43 opened angle this just you take the phaser and slide it in between his hand
04:46 and the thumb sits perfectly where the actual button is to fire the phaser off
04:51 and I would imagine as we are getting more Star Trek figures from Super 7
04:55 probably going to be getting more Starfleet issued weapons as well the
04:59 hands can easily be swapped out just the case let's find the hand that goes
05:01 proper appropriately with that hand we're just gonna pop off the relaxed
05:04 hands he comes with a pair of those on both sides I'm just gonna remove one of
05:07 them at least we're gonna pop the new hand in place with the phaser and now
05:11 he's got himself the phaser the hand is also angled in such a way to that it
05:15 looks like it's better like it looks like it should be something where he's
05:17 firing this off it's not a case where like the phasers way up here and you
05:21 have to kind of just pretend he has to lean down in order to fire the arm
05:23 actually bends and the hand is posed in such a way that it looks like
05:27 realistically he could actually fire it something that's in front of him - - -
05:31 while he's pew-pew-pewing the figure also comes in clue let's just get him a
05:34 stand here comes also include with his trombone unfortunately the slide does
05:40 not work on the trombone I've tried to pull it and I know right away by pulling
05:44 it nothing is really supposed to be meant to me moving on this it's moldy
05:48 though nicely in a gold plastic I was trying to kind of look at all the
05:51 accessory hands that he came in clue with and the hand that I thought is
05:55 probably best for holding the trumpets trombone it's probably this hand right
05:59 here depending on what side you'd like to have this on Rikers well again what
06:03 side of his face you'd like to be blowing inside the horn you can have for
06:07 example like this hand I'm just gonna take this everything is so slippery this
06:11 plastic trombone is extremely slippery but you can kind of take the hand I've
06:15 noticed and just clip it around kind of like right around here I had an easier
06:22 time of doing this earlier there we go kind of clip it around that way but it
06:26 doesn't look like he has necessarily a dedicated hand for holding the trombone
06:29 it's just again I may have called it a trumpet earlier it looks like like again
06:33 I'm guessing this is supposed to oh maybe I actually I'm supposed to have it
06:37 fitting this way and that's supposed to fit see I don't know if you can kind of
06:40 see what I'm done here it basically just wedging these fingers around the middle
06:44 section of the trombone and he can hold the trombone that way I can't think of
06:48 any other hands I mean he has these gripping hands here also as well I
06:52 suppose you could clip this around here but this is really loose unless you were
06:56 to say soften the plastic around the hand to kind of bring them a little bit
06:59 closer together then he could probably fit this around here but I think unless
07:03 you really wanted to have it like that way for example yeah you know what that
07:07 might hold also the trombone a little bit better as well the figure also has
07:10 command gestured hands or at least one of them pointing to the crew to abandon
07:14 ship are we still going back to that joke poor Riker can't just cut a break
07:18 whenever he's behind the captain's chair when he's on the captain's chair and he
07:21 also comes included this gripping hand also as well so I think he does come
07:24 with all the necessary accessories just before in fact actually we move all the
07:28 accessories away he also comes included with the plunger I don't know if that's
07:32 the correct term I'm gonna have to look it up the little plunging part that
07:35 actually goes in front so you can go and that just sits basically inside the
07:40 trombone and of course if you want again change out the hands just a case of
07:44 popping the hand off we'll put the trombone in here I'd have to go back and
07:48 look at the episode again and see if this is the exact side in which Riker
07:52 actually holds the trombone the thing about it though unfortunately though
07:55 well even if this isn't the right side the figure unfortunately doesn't have
07:59 bending I want to make sure I got this face in the right way you want to make
08:02 sure I get it on there I don't know if in the episode if it's supposed to be on
08:07 this side I feel as if it's supposed to be on this side but either way he only
08:11 has unfortunately a single bend in the elbow so it really can't have it too
08:15 close to his mouth as as much as I really would have wanted those are all
08:18 the accessories let's move those all the side and getting a closer look at the
08:22 head sculpt there is technically one other I suppose accessory and that would
08:25 be an alternate head sculpt but we're gonna look at this one as the default
08:28 first not only is a bearing out strong likeness of Jonathan Frakes who I
08:32 thought was rocking his Riker a lot better when he was growing out the beard
08:35 I never really liked clean-shaven Riker myself and was always really
08:39 disappointed that in insurrection he decided to shave it off I was thought
08:43 right Riker look always always really better wearing he actually when he was
08:46 actually having a beard the paint on this face is fantastic and again I hate
08:51 to draw the attention back to the GI Joe Flint's but showing where the lip the
08:54 paint got left off when it came to actually producing the figure and where
08:58 it they picked again up the spare when it came to Riker it's a much better
09:01 paint job I'm sure hopefully you'll agree with that the only thing about
09:05 that though is I notice what the head sculpt he has a really dark tan around
09:09 the front of his face he doesn't have it as much though on his ears and you
09:12 notice when it comes to his neck the neck is a little bit more paler I feel
09:16 like they maybe have added a little bit too much faux tan on the front of
09:19 Riker's face that it doesn't quite jive with the coloring that he has for the
09:22 side of his neck I wish that it was actually a little bit closer to this
09:25 color but I do still wish that it was it was fully painted and I'm glad to see
09:29 they actually did do that with Riker now there's this one just as the defaulted
09:33 head and then there's also this one if you want smiling Riker an ideally
09:37 suited head if you want to have the figure displayed with the trombone just
09:40 gonna pop the head off the ball joint pop the new head then in place I didn't
09:44 have any problems by the way of actually changing out the heads I thought I may
09:47 have had to heat them not at all not at all and that's what the smiling look the
09:51 head sculpt looks like just bring back in the original Riker so you can see the
09:53 difference between the two some may prefer to have the more stoic Riker on
09:58 their shelf the smiling Riker I have to say has some mileage there as well
10:01 really like a smile on his face the eyes again for how small they are nicely
10:05 painted the beard is well painted as well I don't really see any bleeding
10:08 problems at all where paint has found its way onto other places a really nice
10:12 looking Riker now this is the later seasons suits so you notice with the
10:17 suit for example instead of actually having the little lines that go across
10:19 the shoulders and missing the collar this one has the collar with the pips
10:23 and of course he's got the Starfleet uniform insignia badge there the
10:27 communicator that's there also as well a really nice nicely sculpted and nicely
10:32 painted figure I'm going to go back to the hand phaser though which is still a
10:36 torch of course attached the Rikers hand there's no place to store this on the
10:40 figures body I do in a way wish that they could have given him a little tiny
10:43 pouch or something of course that it could attach the phaser but then I know
10:47 what the phaser never being on it if you decide always say for example having in
10:50 his hands then there just be this ugly spot on the side of his waist so I guess
10:54 they chose instead just wisely not to have that I guess it's not bad at all
10:58 the figure has some decent detailing down below I feel like there should be a
11:02 little bit higher of a cut down below here for the legs I know in the original
11:06 series suits I think they also had the red lining here as well that would have
11:09 matched then the color of the top of the tunic but down below here I feel like
11:12 this be a little higher cut than what it is right now a nice sculpted figure the
11:16 the thing I will say about the figure is looking at him he seems like he's really
11:20 tall in the torso at least this part right here and maybe not as equally
11:24 length lengthwise proportionally he's not as long in the legs that though
11:28 really happy with how Riker turned out I hope I will have still the same the same
11:33 feelings when we're looking at the other two figures from this wave that would be
11:35 of course data and Lakuta suborg surprisingly enough though we did start
11:39 this wave with Riker we're not getting a park record we are getting a board
11:42 defied part Picard but kind of strange that they decided not to go with a
11:46 Picard for the first release instead of going right away to number one instead
11:50 for the figures articulation Riker's head is gonna be on a ball joint so it
11:53 rotates all the way around head looks down only by that far I know it doesn't
11:58 even look like I really moved it it looks down that far and it looks up you
12:01 can also move it as well back and forth but not by a lot though the upper torso
12:05 is on a ball joint although you can't really move it back and forth too much
12:08 you can't easily move it up and down though shoulders do rotate all the way
12:12 around that's on both sides the arms do come out at not quite 90 degrees just a
12:16 little less than that the figure does have a bicep swivel only still again
12:20 possessing a single hinge in the elbow so it might be a little harder for him
12:23 to play the trombone and the hands do rotate also all the way around legs do
12:28 split on on Riker you can get a full splits going for him you bring the legs
12:32 forward bring the legs back this is a by the way a little softer of a plastic not
12:37 to the degree for example of some of the DC multiverse figures that we've looked
12:40 at but is though notably a little bit softer than the top of his torso the
12:44 legs do have a slight swivel at top of the thigh there's a single hinge only on
12:47 Riker's knee allows the lower leg to rotate the feet move up and down and you
12:52 can also rock him back and forth as well Riker in case you're also curious does
12:55 have pegs on the undersides of his feet I think I've yet to come across any of
12:58 the super 7 ultimate figures that have actually had a display stand dedicated
13:02 for them a nice-looking Riker though maybe some of the accessories aren't
13:06 necessarily needed I think when it comes to displaying the figure will like for
13:10 example we ever displaying with Captain Picard day little doll Picard probably
13:14 not maybe you probably be a little bit more leaning to the idea of displaying
13:17 with the trombone I'm glad to say they included the trombone and of course if
13:20 you want just standard fair issued weapons it also comes include of course
13:24 with the type 2 phaser as well a nice release I'm glad I did actually start
13:27 with Riker I was almost even tempted to start with Lakuta's but I'm glad I
13:31 started with Riker first I think he set the bar pretty high and all things
13:35 considered because he's second in command while I may have had a bit of a
13:38 struggle getting that trombone in his hand at least here in final looks you
13:41 can see how the figure is displayed with it granted not possessing double hinges
13:45 in his elbows make things very difficult to get his mouth actually around the
13:48 nozzle but at least you can get it displayed in such a way that Riker is
13:51 performing for the rest of the crew in 10 forward really like the look of
13:55 Riker and again I go back to a point I mentioned it earlier in this review I'm
13:58 glad that I did start things off with Riker because I think again starting
14:02 things really high with a Starfleet member first of all he's also got human
14:05 skin and I only use that as a comparison or use that as a mention point because
14:09 both with Lakuta's and with data both the figures are gonna have unnatural
14:13 skin tones so I thought it was a good way to kind of start things off and kind
14:16 of gauge and gauge exactly where we're gonna be looking at when it comes to
14:19 Star Trek figures if they can land again human skin then we should have any
14:23 problems when it comes to the rest of the figures now I did pick up Riker I
14:26 did pick up data and I did pick up Picard as Lakuta's a Borg we're gonna be
14:30 of course looking at data and Lakuta's in upcoming reviews but what do you guys
14:34 think of Riker let me know down below in the comments section pretty good looking
14:37 release from the folks over at super 7 I know again I mentioned that they did
14:40 drop the ball when it came to Flint and I keep bringing back Flint as the
14:44 example because again like second wave after having been so successful with the
14:48 first wave of GI Joe's I was extremely again disappointed Flint was my all-time
14:52 favorite figure well all my all-time favorite character and I'm glad to see
14:56 that while unfortunately I was disappointed with my all-time favorite
14:58 GI Joe my all-time favorite or one of my all-time favorite crew members of the
15:02 Starfleet or a Starship Enterprise commander William T Riker was in good
15:06 hands by giving it to super 7 again if you guys are interested and would like
15:10 to get this one for yourself it is available as of right now at
