00:00If you're one of the Horde's henchmen, say aye. Here's a look at Mattel He-Man in the Master Universe cartoon collection,
00:06Mantenna, Evil Spy with the Pop-Out Eyes.
00:23It's an exciting time to be a Master Universe fan.
00:26For long-time fans and for new generation of kids who love the action adventure.
00:30It's time to experience the thrilling action and adventure of He-Man, Skeletor, the secrets of Castle Grayskull and much more.
00:36The figures in this collection stand 5.5 inches tall and has 16 movable joints.
00:41So they're highly poseable for imaginative and action-oriented fun.
00:44Do you mind not pointing those high beams at me?
00:47How about, just before we get a closer look at the cartoon collection, Mantenna,
00:50we're going to take the tape measure and we're going to see how tall the figure stands.
00:53Now I've got him right now with his knees bent.
00:55I wanted to make him a little more like the cartoon because half the time he's scurrying around at the disposal of Hordak.
01:00He usually is with his knees bent like this.
01:02He could have his legs technically straight as well.
01:04And I'll show you guys what that looks like also in a second.
01:06With this though configuration in mind, the tape measure is going to tell us that Mantenna, the cartoon version of him,
01:11stands at 6 inches in height. He does. You can see it for yourself.
01:14That translates though to a figure that's 15 centimeters tall.
01:18Speaking of Hordak, I don't have one yet.
01:20The figure is available though right now along with Triclops.
01:23He's making up the second wave of cartoon collection figures.
01:26We are also going to be looking at Ram Man and She-Ra in upcoming reviews.
01:29But at least I have a stand-in bad guy for at least right now.
01:32Here's what the figure looks like with Skeletor.
01:34Bringing in some of Skeletor's cronies.
01:36Here's also what he looks like with Trap Jaw.
01:38Here's Merman. I have quite a lot of these.
01:40Beast Man over here. Over here we also have Clawful.
01:45There's Evil Lin.
01:47I'm being so silent and quiet while I'm doing this.
01:49Here's also what he looks like with Web Store.
01:51And here's also what he looks like with Spikor. Yeah, quite a lot.
01:54And of course, seeing as we also are looking at the cartoon collection,
01:57did want to also bring in the Origins version of Mantenna as well.
02:00Did I say the second wave? I meant the next wave.
02:03To come in clear though with Mantenna, nothing in the way of plastic accessories.
02:07Sure, yeah, he has some paper things. We'll look at those more in a moment.
02:10But I would imagine that a lot of the budget went into Mantenna.
02:13More for the extra limbs that he has on the back of his body.
02:15Because of that, no extra budget was allocated towards accessories that were specific to episodes.
02:20So unfortunately though, when it comes to his plate being full, Mantenna has to go a little hungry.
02:25Of the things, like I said, he comes in clear with is a paper pamphlet.
02:28Talking about though, things that are wasted on budget.
02:31How about this, for example.
02:32I think by now we all know things that can be yanked off on Mantenna.
02:35Well, not even just Mantenna. Just any Master Universe figure for that matter.
02:38I guess it's probably good to tell you here, because it's not dark and grey,
02:42you can't detach his legs.
02:43Whatever you do, don't rip them off.
02:45You can remove, yeah, his arms.
02:46You can also detach his feet.
02:47And you can pop off his head if you want to.
02:49But leave everything else the way that you see it.
02:52I'm going to very carefully fold this up.
02:54Just like that.
02:55I'm also going to fold it up like this as well.
02:57Looks like I'm about to do a magic trick.
02:59The only thing I'm going to do magic-wise is going to make this disappear.
03:02It's over there. It's gone.
03:05The figure does also come in clear with the mini-comics.
03:07Now the mini-comic entitled this time around is Horde Invasion.
03:11It's also advertising, of course, on the back, the other characters.
03:13She-Ra is one figure I've also ordered from Entertainment Earth.
03:16I'm just kind of waiting for her to arrive right now.
03:17Unfortunately, our Canadian Postal Service is all on strike right now.
03:21So we kind of have to wait a little while to get extra boxes delivered to our doorstep.
03:25Most of the stuff that comes to me from Entertainment Earth just happens.
03:28Of course, it has to be delivered by Canada Post.
03:30So I'm going to have to wait a little while, I think, for She-Ra,
03:32or whenever the strike ends up settling.
03:34I have Ram Man, though. Ram Man.
03:36We will be looking at an upcoming review.
03:37And of course, there's Mantenna down below there as well.
03:39As for the mini-comic, Horde Invasion,
03:42one thing I will say, though, about the artwork inside is,
03:45while maybe some of it is a little questionable,
03:47I don't really like the way that He-Man's drawn at all.
03:49Bo doesn't look so bad. Neither does She-Ra.
03:51But I got to say, like, that is one awesome looking Hordak.
03:54That's suggested, by the way, a big giant head of Hordak isn't floating around in space.
03:58And no, it's not bigger than a spaceship.
04:00Come on now, everybody.
04:01One thing that was kind of funny, though, is in the back corner,
04:04it kind of looks like that's Unicron.
04:05Is Unicron in the world of Eternia and Ethernia?
04:08Theory? I don't think so.
04:10On the inside, we also got ourselves a Swift Twin.
04:13I do hope we get a Swift Twin at some point.
04:15And the Saint Men make an appearance as well.
04:17It's a good looking comic.
04:18Like, it reads well.
04:19I mean, it's a pretty simple read as well.
04:20It's only probably, like, four pages or so.
04:22But they're also advertising as well.
04:23There's Extendor.
04:25There's the Sorceress also there in the back as well.
04:27There's a lot.
04:28Like I said, a lot of stuff going on.
04:29And they also advertise some additional characters in the world of She-Ra.
04:32Maybe we might even see those.
04:34And we're getting a Catra and Hordak already been announced also as well.
04:37Hordak's already making the rounds in some retail stores.
04:40I'm trying to get my hands on Hordak.
04:41Fingers crossed I can actually get him.
04:43But that's the mini comic right there.
04:45Horde Invasion.
04:46I'm not going to toss this.
04:47I'm not going to make it disappear.
04:48I'm just only going to place it over here.
04:52As for Mantenna, though.
04:55Like I said, though, unfortunately, you can see really where all the budget went into this guy.
04:58The fact that he now has back legs.
05:00The normal standard Massey Universe figure would only really have the legs that you see on the front.
05:04But Mantenna gets gifted by extra legs on the back.
05:07Now, if you want to, I had these legs really bent.
05:09You could have them straight, too.
05:10You can bend these legs.
05:11Sometimes, though, Mantenna did appear in the actual episodes with his legs straight like this.
05:15When you were just talking to Hordak.
05:17Just before Hordak would open up the trap door.
05:19And then Mantenna would always fall.
05:20Not to his death.
05:21But usually to a watery splash.
05:24You can display him that way also as well.
05:26I think for me, though, I usually would like to just have a display with the knees bent like this.
05:30And again, it's pretty easy to do.
05:31You just bend the knees like this.
05:33There you go.
05:35One thing, though, for Mantenna is in the cartoon, he usually would have a freeze beam that would come out of his eyes.
05:42Usually, it would eject the eyes first and foremost.
05:44I guess they could have included that.
05:46But that would probably be the hard thing to attach onto Mantenna's eyes.
05:49It would just only really look like something was covering over his face anyway.
05:54So I think it probably would be a good idea that they left it off altogether.
05:56Now, I've already revealed what ends up happening here.
05:59There's a button on the back of his head.
06:01That when you depress it, it pushes out his eyes.
06:04These are on simple springs.
06:06So the moment you really let go of this, it's just going to recess his eyes back into the sockets.
06:10But it's a nice little fun effect.
06:11It would be nice had they found a way to actually lock these in place.
06:15So you could always have Mantenna with his eyes always stretched like this.
06:19I would think, though, that that probably would cause stress to the spring.
06:22And eventually that spring would break.
06:24So probably for all that, I keep answering my own questions.
06:28Maybe for that, it's probably a better idea that the eyes can be released at times.
06:32So it takes stress away from the springs.
06:35Now, the original Mantenna...
06:37I should not really say the original Mantenna.
06:39The Origins Mantenna happens to be this guy right here.
06:41It's a much uglier looking Mantenna.
06:43But it works the exact same way.
06:45Although with this guy, there's a little lever that you press down as opposed to pushing in.
06:49I don't know really which way you'd prefer.
06:51Either way works fine.
06:52But the actual eyes for Mantenna actually go more up than out.
06:56With this Mantenna, obviously, when you're pushing the button, his eyes go forward and not out.
07:00I mean, there's very much a different kind of design when it comes to Mantenna here.
07:05Much more like the darker limbs here.
07:07And of course, the red on the front of his body.
07:09I like always really more the look of Mantenna.
07:11And it's kind of really cool that we get Mantenna so early into the cartoon collection.
07:15The fact that he would actually predate Hordak.
07:17The man that he answers to all the time.
07:19The man who's always pressing the eject button and sends this guy to a watery splash.
07:24He happens to get released first.
07:25And he's also the first Hordak character or Horde member that we've gotten in this collection.
07:30Color-wise, he looks very much like he does in the cartoon.
07:33I do like the lighter colors that they've done for the ears there on the side.
07:36Teeth nicely painted there also as well.
07:38Now, he has ball joints.
07:39We're going to kind of talk more about that in a moment when we look at the figure's posability.
07:42But you really can't do all that much when it comes to his head.
07:45The colors for his limbs look very much again like the cartoon.
07:48Much lighter in the blue, obviously.
07:49And he's got bluer legs down below.
07:50He in the cartoon also would only have black boots on the front.
07:53And then normal, regular, just kind of blue.
07:55I don't know why you never would have had black boots in the cartoon.
07:58But, you know, he always seemed to have, like, blue legs on the back.
08:00And then only just the black boots on the front.
08:02Of course, he's got the Horde symbol there also.
08:04It's printed across his chest.
08:06Not that they probably would get any more mileage out of this mold.
08:08I mean, Mantana is obviously a very more slimmer character.
08:11And I can't think of really any other character, for that matter, that would have been...
08:15I mean, maybe a bow?
08:17Could they maybe use the torso for a character like Bo?
08:19Obviously just change his arms.
08:21Clearly, obviously, we'd have to get away with removing the collar piece also as well.
08:25But maybe. You never know.
08:26That might be, like, a bow body?
08:28A bow body?
08:29Maybe. You never know.
08:30Of course, down below, the coloring of the yellow looks pretty good.
08:33Yellow is always kind of a hard thing to really paint on figures.
08:35Because half the time, you usually see the paint kind of bleeding through.
08:38But I think overall, yeah.
08:39For what little paint this guy does actually have...
08:41I mean, you've got to think that these are molded.
08:43This is probably molded.
08:44Or maybe this is also painted as well.
08:45And his lower legs are all molded.
08:47Little bit of paint that this guy actually gets has been done nicely.
08:50Has been painted really well.
08:51Now, for the figure's articulation, though, for Mantena...
08:54We've already discussed the fact that even though he has a ball joint for his head...
08:58There really isn't a whole lot you can do with it.
09:00He can look down really a lot easier than he can look up.
09:03When he looks up, I mean, that's as far up as he can really get.
09:06You can also rock the head back and forth.
09:08And yeah, of course, you can also rotate the head all the way around.
09:11I don't know if necessarily we'd consider this possibility.
09:13I mean, the eyes technically move.
09:15Does that count as articulation?
09:17I don't really think it does.
09:19The arms, though, however, rotate forward and back.
09:21You can't really quite get them all the way around...
09:23Just because he's got this collar piece in the way.
09:25But you can certainly bring them out, though.
09:27He has a swivel there in the arm, which is basically in the elbow joint.
09:31He also has an elbow joint that allows the arm to bend.
09:33The hands rotate also all the way around.
09:35And then when you get to...
09:36Well, first of all, let's get through his waist first.
09:38His waist has a swivel.
09:40But then when you look at each of the individual legs...
09:42He's essentially doing the exact same thing...
09:44You know, times four.
09:46So he's got the ball joint here for this leg.
09:48The leg in the back would do the exact same thing.
09:50I mean, it's a different sculpted leg, too.
09:52This one has little fins on the side.
09:54I don't know if those would be feathers.
09:56Does this guy have feathers on him?
09:58He has these little pieces of additional hair on the tops of his thighs...
10:01And in the lower half of his boots.
10:03So right away, you can already tell.
10:05They couldn't have painted in that boot.
10:07But for him to have a ball joint here, he had a ball joint on the back.
10:09He's got also a hinge joint there in the leg.
10:11And yeah, would you believe he does the exact same thing on the back as well?
10:14The only thing that's different, though, is the sculpting of the boot.
10:16But it swivels the exact same way.
10:18It swivels here, and it swivels here.
10:20An ankle pivot.
10:22An ankle rocker.
10:24And...
10:26So basically, again, he's doing that times four.
10:28The figure does also have pegs on the bottoms of his feet.
10:30And yet, up to this point, we still don't have display stands...
10:32With really, for that matter, any of the Cartoon Collection figures.
10:35Not that he necessarily needs them.
10:37I mean, like, man, a tennis stand's fine.
10:39But yeah, again, I love Mantenna.
10:41Mantenna's one of my favorite characters from the Horde.
10:43And the fact that we finally get this guy so early...
10:45And to the fact that he's also predating Hordak...
10:48It's pretty cool.
10:50Now, we are also getting Hordak. Hordak's already been released.
10:52You can see, like, listings of him online.
10:54A couple of people have been lucky enough already to get their hands on Hordak.
10:57We're also getting ourselves Catra.
10:59And I would imagine we're probably going to be getting a lot more after the fact.
11:02But yeah, again, just to kind of show you guys the differences between the two versions of Mantenna...
11:06Obviously, I don't have myself the original vintage version of Mantenna.
11:09But there's very much a different divide when it comes to design.
11:12I mean, this is a much uglier looking Mantenna.
11:14I mean, the face kind of looks more like a spider's face.
11:17Where, like, the cartoon design of Mantenna was a little bit more simplified.
11:21A little cuter, honestly, too.
11:23I don't know if I would ever really describe Mantenna as cute.
11:25But yet, I'm literally doing that in this review.
11:27The colors are bright.
11:29They match, of course, also the way they are in the cartoon as well.
11:31The only thing, unfortunately, though, for Mantenna...
11:34Sad to say, is that he has no accessories.
11:36But because, again, like you would imagine,
11:38that much more tooling cost had to go into producing not only a unique body to Mantenna,
11:43but then that unique lower half of his body had to also incorporate two additional legs.
11:47That no really other Master's figure up to this point,
11:50other than really, again, the Origins figure, can actually say that he has.
11:53Come to think of it, Mantenna is probably the Horde member that appears the most in the Shiro episodes.
11:57And that Hordex joke is usually at his expense.
12:00I think it's fitting that the bulging eye bad guy gets a release just before Hordax does.
12:04Now, he's sharing the same wave release as Ram Man and a cartoon Shiro.
12:08Actually, Hordax is just one wave behind.
12:10He's coming out the next wave with Triclops.
12:12But we finally now have, between two waves,
12:14we're going to have two members of the Horde and then one, finally, member of Shiro's group.
12:18Now, when it comes to the cartoon accuracy of Mantenna,
12:21short of maybe not having freeze beans zapping out of his eyes,
12:24the fact that they actually do have his eyes springing out is obviously a nice feature.
12:28I would certainly be disappointed if they left that feature out.
12:32Now, budget-wise, Mantenna has a lot more going for him body-wise.
12:36He has two pairs of legs on either side.
12:38So you could probably excuse why Mattel chose not to have episode-specific accessories
12:43when it comes to a character like Mantenna.
12:45I hope, certainly, they don't drop the ball with any future figures.
12:48Figures that have, then, two legs,
12:50there's no excuse at all why they can't include any accessories with those releases.
12:54This guy gets also a mini-comic that I'm sure we're probably going to be seeing again
12:56when we look at both Ram Man and She-Ra.
12:58Yeah, he's a nice-looking release.
13:00What do you guys think of Mantenna?
13:01Have you guys had the chance to grab this guy yet?
13:03Or are you already way ahead of me and you're already picking up the Triclops and also Hordak?
13:08But what do you guys think of this cartoon collection lineup?
13:10So far, I'm loving what they're releasing so far.
13:12And, I mean, we're not waiting that long to really get big-list characters.
13:16Mantenna in this wave, She-Ra also sharing this wave, and Hordak in the next.
13:21If you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid throw to like.
13:23If you guys want to stick around for more so, I hope so.
13:26We're also going to be looking at Ram Man.
13:28I know I already kind of gave that away.
13:29We're going to be looking at Ram Man this week.
13:31So if you guys want to stick around for that, hit the subscribe, turn on that bell.
13:35But, of course, come back.
13:36As always, thanks for watching.
13:37See you guys next time.
