McFarlane Toys Pacific Rim Gipsy Danger 4" Figure Playset & Comic
Transcript
00:00 When you need to save the city from tiny little monsters,
00:04 here's a look at the new McFarlane Toys Pacific Rim Tales from the Drift Gypsy Danger.
00:10 [MUSIC]
00:35 Gypsy Danger is powered by a nuclear heart and built to destroy with
00:38 its deadly chain sword it whips and slashes enemies in close quarters combat.
00:43 For extra blasting power, upgrade to the Plasma Caster Energy Cannon.
00:47 Now just before we start worrying about clashing with Kaijus, let's grab the tape measure first
00:51 and see how tall Gypsy Danger stands. While I'm doing this as well, I'd like to
00:55 thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did provide this sample we could
00:58 have a look at. The figures are quite those small. You're looking at Gypsy
01:01 Danger only being four inches in height, or the figure is gonna be 10 centimeters tall.
01:05 Perhaps going with Gypsy Danger as a first figure wasn't a good idea in my
01:09 part because this is actually the first figure from the new Pacific Rim line
01:12 from McFarlane Toys. It seems to be mark 3, at least listed on the side of the
01:16 packaging it says mark 3, and then also the included comic says Pacific Rim
01:20 Tales from the Drift issue 3. Even though I really did want to start things
01:24 with Gypsy Danger, kind of more recognizing the character of the other
01:27 ones that we're gonna be looking at in upcoming reviews, again I apparently have
01:30 chose wrong just by the fact that the issue is showing as number 3. That
01:33 means though where we're dropping in on the story is about, well stuff has
01:37 already happened with issue 1 and issue 2, that by the time you get to issue 3
01:40 there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on other than a little bit of
01:43 dialogue. There is some kaiju threat but it doesn't seem to happen till near the
01:48 end and I'm sure we'll start to pick up an issue 4 and I'm sure it'll probably
01:51 make a lot more sense when we look at issue 1 and issue 2. So we're gonna move
01:55 that to the side for right now. The figure as well comes included with all
01:58 these interesting art, like architecture. First of all it comes with a big giant
02:02 building, comes as well with a little small tank and a little army truck and
02:05 I'm sure as we look at the rest of the Pacific Rim things that we're gonna be
02:08 getting from McFarland Toys, all the other things that are gonna be coming
02:11 through with these smaller size figures are gonna allow to kind of build the
02:15 city together. As it is right now what we do get, if I can slide this carefully
02:19 because this is actually consisting of parts, you get yourself a skyscraper. Now
02:23 just to move the skyscraper aside you get yourself like a bit of road here.
02:27 There is clearly a section where the building is supposed to go in this
02:30 little cutout section here and you've got a few little roads. I mean it's
02:34 really there's not really much to be said for this. It's just molded here in
02:37 grey plastic but I'm sure again the idea is once we collect and look at the rest
02:40 of the figures this will eventually build a much larger cityscape. Where I
02:44 feel there there is the appeal and may not appeal to everybody is the fact that
02:48 the buildings are made of parts. This building is actually consisting of four
02:52 parts and all the parts of the building can be detached. So if you wanted to for
02:56 example you can start at the bottom or the basement which actually to be fair
02:59 is nicely sculpted. I mean this could easily have been something they could
03:02 have just made this very basic plastic. They actually did go in there and
03:05 sculpt it. There is no pain unfortunately. I mean all the parts that I'm seeing
03:09 from the building are only just molded in the grey plastic alone but then again
03:12 like you have all these building pieces that go on top of it. The whole idea in
03:16 mind is what I've just ended up doing is you knock all the building pieces down.
03:19 Putting them back together is not the easiest thing to do. One thing that
03:23 certainly does help is that all the sculpting on the buildings will be
03:26 always on the top. So that may also help to kind of line things up that way
03:29 so that you don't accidentally do this where you're flipping it around and
03:32 trying to line up the shapes that way. You just put that piece right there. Of
03:36 course this be the top. This just lines up right there. Now you take of course
03:39 the top of the building and that just goes on top right there. I mean a little
03:43 bit of a sneeze or if I happen to get nudged by someone behind me I'm sure
03:46 parts to the building are just gonna go everywhere. But you know for it being a
03:50 scaled size building maybe you say to put it next to Gypsy Danger I think it's
03:54 a good size. It isn't necessarily scaled though to the vehicles that come
03:58 included with it. You get first of all a little army truck. There is a little bit
04:02 of marbling that I've noticed though in the green plastic that they've used here.
04:05 I mean the army truck doesn't have anything that moves on it. These tires
04:09 are basically just staction pieces. There is like looking on the bottom of it
04:13 like a little seam line right there. I know I've for some reason thought that I
04:16 could actually detach the two but it's just just one sculpted truck. And then
04:20 you also get yourself a tank. I think the tank is a little bit more interesting
04:23 than the army truck and nice thing actually to see is that they actually
04:26 put a rotating turret on the top of the tank. It's still molded here in this military
04:31 kind of marbled plastic. You kind of see up close how that plastic has a little
04:35 bit of marbling to it and then there's what looks like on the bottom of it as
04:37 well. I mean it's a solid piece. There's no hollowness to it whether this
04:41 actually is hollow inside but definitely doesn't look like it's barren on the
04:44 bottom. The only thing about it though is that both the vehicles that come
04:47 included with this if you don't put it next to the building it's scaled out of
04:51 size. If anything like looking at this I would imagine like the tank would be
04:55 only about maybe about that size if you're comparing against the back of the
04:58 building but I mean are we gonna really be stickler for sizes? Okay maybe this guy
05:02 is maybe the rest of us isn't. Having though a look though at Gypsy Danger.
05:07 Gypsy Danger I was actually kind of surprised to see as much posability on
05:10 this work before of course we talked about the posability. Getting a closer
05:14 look at the figure he's mostly molded here in all blue plastic. There is
05:17 obviously opportunities always that can be made by companies like McFarlane Toys
05:21 to add additional paints. I mean so there's very much very little in the way
05:24 of paint here really. I mean the turbine in the middle has been painted nicely
05:28 here in yellow. There are a few little decorative details that they've also
05:31 added there as well like the 34s on the sides and some additional stripes on the
05:34 top and not to mention a stripe in the middle of the forehead before you get to
05:37 the gold visor. But that really only represents the coloring of the paint on
05:41 the figure. All the rest of it is basically just a molded blue plastic. The
05:44 blade is also something the chain whip is also something that they've also
05:47 sculpted and painted here in a different color so at least there's that. It's not
05:50 removable or anything like that. It's gonna be always permanently attached to
05:53 the form but again like the surprising thing about it is the fact for the
05:57 sizing of these figures, while maybe yes lacking a little bit in the paint, they
06:00 do actually make up for it for the fact that they're actually more poseable than
06:03 I was expecting. For the poseability on Gypsy Danger for example, while it being
06:08 a little bit harder to kind of get in there with my hand, the head is actually
06:11 on what I think is a ball joint. It moves up and down as best as I can actually
06:15 get it with my larger looking fingers but you can also rotate the head back
06:18 and forth as well. The only thing unfortunate though is that there's no
06:21 waist articulation and the probably reason why for that is for one thing it
06:25 would have had to mean that they'd had to tool a brand new part so they'd have
06:28 to make two separate parts. Now of course that would make it more expensive but
06:31 also as well that that would break up the sculpting. To be fair it's
06:34 actually a nicely sculpted little robot considering again like it doesn't have a
06:38 lot in the way of you know a lot of in the way of the paint. The arms is also
06:42 something I was really surprised to see that they are both on ball
06:45 joints so again you can move them back and forth. They don't move out as far as
06:49 maybe you would hope but at least they actually do have some shoulder joints so
06:53 you can move those out a little bit. There is also an elbow bend on both the
06:56 arms. There's no hand articulation so that's basically just all going to be
07:00 just the forearm sculpting there but the legs are also on ball joints so you can
07:03 see right there there's black joints working behind the scenes. You can bring
07:06 those legs forward, you can bring the legs back and there's also just a single
07:09 hinge on the knee but if you look at that single hinge that hinge goes a long
07:13 way and there's also ratcheted points that they put in there as well to ensure
07:17 that the figures aren't going to get loose over time and if you hear this
07:21 isn't that just the most satisfying sound in the world but I love
07:25 the idea that they actually incorporated some some ratcheted joints in
07:29 there in the knees so again at least when it comes to moving the legs
07:32 around there's some a little bit of durability when it comes to legs. The
07:36 thing I'm going to be the most interested in I mean obviously we're
07:38 only looking at just one figure for right now once we move away from Gypsy
07:42 Danger and we look at the rest of the Pacific Rim stuff that McFarlane is doing
07:45 then we'll be able to start kind of building up the city because right
07:48 now we only really just have a skyscraper, a single building down to
07:52 destroy and then we've got a couple of again smaller little army vehicles.
07:56 Again if you were to be a real stickler for this the army vehicles are
08:00 probably a little bit too big but you couldn't make them really tiny either. I
08:03 mean things this small would be lost in an instant. They obviously have to make
08:06 them big enough so at least it looks like something on a shelf. You know again
08:10 I'm actually kind of impressed with these. This would be the kind of thing
08:13 I always kind of think to myself as a review stuff. Maybe older me wouldn't as
08:17 appreciate these as much as younger me. Younger me I could see really having a
08:21 blast with these especially building up the cities having the Kaijus going
08:24 through and destroying everything and having these big giant bots trying to
08:27 protect the city. Not everyone's thing and I certainly get that but if
08:32 you are into kind of like little smaller miniature cities the stuff that we're
08:36 gonna be getting here from Pacific Rim and McFarlane toys are pretty fun
08:39 little toys. Gypsy Danger stand down stand down! Well apparently he doesn't
08:44 have Kaijus to battle at the moment so Gypsy Danger just chose instead to
08:47 destroy the building that comes included with them. Those small little army
08:51 vehicles won't be doing much of anything to stop this big giant robot from
08:55 destroying the city. That's at least what I've got played out here until eventually
08:59 we look at the rest of the figures. When we look at the rest of figures then of
09:01 course this Gypsy Danger will be the protector of the city. I do like the idea
09:05 that they included these extra little blown away building pieces that you can
09:08 actually just destroy if you really wanted to and they're fairly easy in
09:12 fact to actually kind of match everything and put them back together.
09:14 Provided of course you're looking at the sculpting of each of the individual
09:17 pieces just know that each of the tops will always be sculpted because I've
09:21 done this a couple of times when I was first taking this figure out of his tray
09:24 and I was sort of putting the building pieces back together I didn't really
09:27 clue in right away that the tops of the building were sculpted and I had them
09:31 flipped around the other way and I was just trying to line up the shape until I
09:33 realized I'm a big idiot. Don't be a big idiot though if you are certainly a big
09:37 fan of Pacific Rim and you like smaller scale figures well maybe again lacking a
09:41 little bit in the way of the paint department I gotta say like these are
09:43 fun little figures certainly something again that younger me would really have
09:46 had a blast playing with. What do you guys think of these? Let me know down
09:49 below in the comment section. Is this a line you guys could see yourself
09:52 certainly getting into? I know it's obviously gonna be splitting the
09:55 collectors fandom I mean some of you guys enjoy more the larger scale more
09:59 articulated more painted figures some of you though enjoy the more smaller
10:02 miniature bidding building sized figures I think these are gonna be fun figures
10:06 for those kinds of collectors. Big thank you once again to the folks over at
10:10 McFarland toys that did provide the sample of the brand new Pacific Rim
10:13 Gypsy Danger. I picked the wrong figure I thought actually this figure would be
10:17 the first I should have really looked on the side of the packaging it does say
10:19 mark 3 I don't know if that's actually the number of the figure or it's just
10:22 mark 3 for the Gypsies either way though the comic did tell me it's issue number
10:26 3 so I had to actually go back and probably look at number 1 and number 2
10:29 first either way I'm sure the story is gonna be completed when we eventually
10:33 look at the rest of the Pacific Rim figures. Make sure that you're not
10:36 missing out on any of these upcoming Gypsy Danger but the rest of
10:39 the Pacific Rim figures make sure yes you're hitting that subscribe button
10:43 down below that you're also as well turning on the bell notification and
10:45 most importantly that you're coming back here on a regular basis and also too if
10:49 hey you want to get a bit of a fix for McFarland toys in the meantime popping
10:52 up at the very end of this video as well would be a playlist for other McFarland
10:55 stuff that I've looked at that includes of course the spawn that includes the DC
10:58 multiverse that will eventually include as well all the Pacific Rim figures from
11:02 the new Pacific Rim Tales from the Drift and of course as always guys thanks for
11:06 watching see you guys next time
11:10 you
11:13 you
