McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Forever Evil Gold label Edition Owl Man Figure
Transcript
00:00 It appears that the Dark Knight has an even darker doppelganger. Here's a look
00:04 at the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Forever Evil Gold Label Collection
00:08 Owlman.
00:28 As a boy Thomas Wayne jr. plotted with the family butler Alfred to kill his
00:32 parents Thomas and Martha Wayne whom he feared were squandering his inheritance.
00:36 His younger brother Bruce was also killed by Alfred and Thomas to stamp out
00:39 any weakness in the older boy. As an adult Thomas would become the brutal
00:43 Owlman ruling Gotham City by any means necessary. After the destruction of his
00:48 world Owlman traveled to Earth-Zero with the crime syndicate. He disappeared
00:52 following the defeat of the crime syndicate. And just before we look at
00:56 Bruce's older brother I'd like to first thank the folks over McFarlane Toys that
00:59 were kind enough to provide the sample of Owlman that we could have a look at
01:02 this review. I'll also bring in Batman in a moment for some size comparisons but
01:05 first things first the figure of Owlman stands seven and a quarter inches in
01:09 height or the figure is gonna be about 18 centimeters tall. Speaking of Bruce
01:13 let's bring in now the Nightfall Batman also from DC Multiverse. If you were to
01:18 say use this Batman as comparison then Owlman's gonna be a little bit taller. If
01:21 you're gonna be using like for example the Hush Batman then Hush Batman will
01:24 obviously be a little bit bigger and broader. Another figure for at least from
01:28 Batman from another world here's what Owlman also looks like from Batman or
01:31 compared against Batman from Xuronar. Unfortunately what you're seeing right
01:34 now is the only things that compact along with the crime syndicate version of
01:38 the Caped Crusader as Owlman doesn't come with anything to really hold but he
01:41 comes instead with a display stand and trading card. First the display stand of
01:45 course is nothing really different than the ones we normally always look here in
01:48 this channel a big circular black display stand with a little peg on the
01:51 top corner that can plug into either one of Owlman's feet. And then you've got
01:54 the DC logo printed down below there once again stamped out in black. The
01:58 figure also as well comes in clear with a trading card. The trading card I do
02:00 really like the image that they used here for Owlman but again like he
02:03 doesn't come with any accessories he's solely just relegated really just the
02:07 trading card and display stand but we flip around to the back his real name is
02:10 Thomas Wayne jr. So he would have been the alternate reality eldest brother of
02:14 Burt Wayne. In other worlds he would have died early on and long before Burt
02:18 would have even known him but in this alternate reality Thomas Wayne jr. would
02:21 have grown older, wiser, more disgruntled by his parents wanting to kill them off.
02:26 A very good substantial read up as well you can pause and read for yourself if
02:30 you so wish. I happen to as well read that the beginning of the video. I saved
02:34 yourself a little bit of the trouble. We're gonna move that all on off to the
02:37 side like I said unfortunately the figure doesn't come in clue with
02:39 anything that you could possibly put in his hands although really the hands are
02:43 already designed in such a way that he's not really gonna be holding anything
02:45 anyways. If I was to say pick up the figure and prove that you can see like
02:49 with his hands they're all basically just either gestured hands or clawing
02:52 hands nothing really hold a batarang or a grapple gun of his counterpart.
02:55 Unfortunately though while I really wish he could have really come in clue with
02:59 anything they could have actually held in his hands that being aside though
03:03 it's actually a nice-looking figure of Owlman. Spin this around so you guys can
03:07 see from all the sides. Certainly taking the idea of Owlman we've had a couple of
03:11 iterations of Owlman in the comics. This one just happens to be again the
03:15 one from Fear Forever. Not a comic run unfortunately I ever really
03:20 read myself but I will say though like the actual look of the figure is really
03:23 good. He's got the very large eyes that usually go hand in hand with Owlman
03:27 painted this time around though in blue and outlined very nicely though in a
03:30 black. His mouth is that a very neutral expression so he doesn't actually have
03:34 any sort of expression on his face that really does stand out than the regular
03:38 just defaulted faces that they usually go with these figures. He's got some
03:41 really nice painting there on the top. Check out the nice paint of black that
03:44 they've used here for the top of his crest. He also has that on the side as
03:47 well. This is a figure I will say though does look good from all the sides. Not
03:50 only does it look really good from the front but when you look at it from the
03:53 side it man has a really interesting looking profile to it. Some iterations of
03:57 Owlman have also had like the front face parts kind of sticking a little bit
04:00 further. This one actually kind of wraps it a little bit more closer to his face.
04:03 Again spinning around from the back you kind of see the little feathers he has
04:06 on the back of his helmet for example and that continued trend kind of goes
04:09 down as well to the cape that he has. The cape is very much a softer plastic that
04:13 they would have used but I kind of like the kind of pearlescent blue that
04:16 they've used for the actual coloring. It really does look nice and because of
04:20 course it is a softer material it has a little bit more give to it than if it
04:23 was more rigid material. I kind of like and prefer more the softer plastic that
04:26 they actually use for these figures. Harder plastic never really sits
04:29 properly on the figure and always just kind of feels like you can't really do
04:32 too much with them. I mean obviously some people just prefer the cloth capes.
04:35 Depending on really what the line is if it's like superpowers for example I
04:38 would much rather prefer fabric capes but when it comes to DC multiverse
04:42 figures I actually like the softer plastic capes myself. The actual thing
04:46 about the figure too is though the thing I really like about them is the coloring
04:49 that they chose for him. This really nice looking blue. It's not quite the same
04:53 kind of blue as what we're getting here with Batman. It's very close. You can see
04:56 like with Batman's trunks for example in his gloves they are notably a little bit
04:59 darker than the actual blue that they use for Owlman here. Like Batman though
05:03 he does have his little owlman symbol there printed on the front of his chest.
05:06 It's nice to see that they actually molded that in place and not just
05:09 simply printed it over top the existing plastic. It seems from what I can see at
05:13 least that this is a brand new re-sculpted body. Like it doesn't look
05:17 like they probably used any of the elements over from other figures. Brand
05:20 new knee pads for example. Again like looking at the boots and looking at the
05:23 legs and look at the arms and all the things in between it doesn't really look
05:25 like there's anything that's been used with this figure that wasn't already
05:28 used from another figure. Now I know I think we did get in fact another
05:30 owlman that was part of the crime syndicate wave. I think if memory serves
05:34 me correctly it had to build a figure pieces to build Starro. I never was able
05:38 to kind of track those figures down because I think at one point they were
05:40 Walmart exclusives and they were super hard to come by and crazy stupid money
05:44 not to get right now. One thing I also really like about the figure while not
05:47 having really any any bit of paint the figure has some really nice sculpting
05:51 here for his utility belt but really like looking at the figure they're all
05:54 kind of really relying on just the bare basics of the plastic alone. It doesn't
05:58 really look like there was any additional washes anywhere to the
06:00 plastic. He certainly doesn't have any wash at all added to utility belts. It's
06:04 kind of again just relying on just the plastic alone unless they probably would
06:07 have gone in there just paint utility belt but if you kind of look at from the
06:10 sides it looks like it's actually a separate piece that they would have put
06:13 over top the existing body. Where there is maybe lacking paint for example it
06:16 more than makes up for it I feel in the sculpting. Things like his legs for
06:19 example you got this nice little texturing sort of has like a woven kind
06:23 of woven sculptor to you. You can kind of see that by the way they've sculpted the
06:27 thighs. The thighs though aren't quite the same sort of I don't want to say
06:30 like the same color of plastic but if you like look at it for example these
06:34 legs don't seem as the same vibrancy as perhaps his chest. It almost seems like
06:38 the legs are just a little bit lighter. That may have also something to do with
06:40 the fact like his lower trunks are always going to be using a more softer
06:43 plastic and it does also seem in a way that he's got a little bit also here for
06:47 his torso. I'm just gonna flip his cape up so you guys can see here. See there's a
06:51 little bit of more softer plastic that they actually use for the top of his
06:54 torso. It's not as much here. This is actually all hard plastic for one
06:58 reason or another they decide to use a softer plastic around his abdomen area.
07:02 Now the figures articulation is gonna be still the same as pretty much all your
07:05 DC multiverse figures now. Owlman for example will have the head rotation on
07:09 that ball joint so you can rotate all the way around. The head looks up only
07:12 that far just by how much that he actually has on the back and bottom of
07:16 his helmet. It's gonna really prevent the figure from having a really higher up
07:19 look. That's one thing that his younger brother actually does a better job of
07:22 doing is actually being able to look a little higher than this. The head does
07:25 though look down quite far. You can also move it back and forth as well. Now when
07:29 it comes to his shoulders, his shoulders not mentioned already is they're using a
07:33 softer plastic here similar to what they would have done with the cape. By using a
07:36 softer plastic it means that you can rotate the arms all the way around. If
07:40 this was a harder plastic I wouldn't be able to do what I'm doing right now. Again
07:44 it's a little on the tighter side but still there's enough give to it that you
07:47 can easily bring the arms not only around but you can also take them and
07:50 bring them out at 90 degrees. The figure does have a bicep swivel. The figure as
07:54 well does have a double hinge on the elbow and both the hands if you could
07:57 believe it do have a rotation that go all the way around and you can also
08:00 hinge them back and forth. As we move a little bit further down on the figure's
08:03 torso he has an upper torso ball joint and then he also has a secondary ball
08:07 joint just behind the utility belt and you can also move in two places there.
08:11 The figure does have ratcheted joints once again at the tops of his thighs. You
08:14 can see like the inner workings of the figure behind the scenes. Take the legs
08:17 and you move them forward. You can move them back. There's a swivel at the top of
08:20 the thigh. Double hinge on the knee. No articulation at all for the boots. They're
08:25 basically sculpted as continued pieces for the calf but there's at least ankle
08:29 pivot so you can move them up and down this way. Rock the ankles this way and
08:32 the figure does also have toe articulation as well. It's a good looking
08:35 figure. It doesn't really have much in the way of paint because again I
08:38 think they're relying only solely on just the plastic of the blue but I gotta
08:41 say like the blue does look really good here on Owlman. Let's get the
08:45 figure to stand here. If when in doubt you're having any problems by the way
08:49 getting the figure to stand. Right now he's giving me problems because of course I'm
08:52 hitting the record button. Let's just get Owlman to stand right there and then
08:56 again we'll bring back in his younger brother Bruce. There's what he looks like
08:58 with the well this would have been the the Nightfall Batman. I'm just drawing a
09:02 bit blank. There's the Nightfall Batman along displayed with Owlman. Yeah I like
09:06 the look of Owlman quite a lot. Not a lot of paint. Sadly lacking in all the
09:10 accessories which again like I really think with this being a gold label
09:13 edition version of Owlman they really could have taken the time not only just
09:16 to include the display stand, not only just to include a trading card but also
09:20 some of the bells and whistles that Owlman would have as well. As we now
09:23 jump over to the final looks of forever evil Owlman. I'm drawing a bit of a blank
09:27 actually name of the comic run in which this character was pulled from but it's
09:29 forever evil and what an evil looking Batman this one certainly
09:33 turned out to be. Unfortunately though once again no accessories. Why would they
09:36 have not just given accessories for Owlman? I mean Batman I mean Batman
09:40 sometimes gets relegated with little to no accessories either but for Owlman
09:44 being part of the gold label edition I thought they would have gone out of
09:46 their way to kind of include other things above and beyond just like the
09:50 display stand and the trading card. If you remove the idea that the figure had
09:53 to have accessories if you're looking at him just from face value of what he
09:56 actually is a nice looking figure. Not much in the way of paint it looks like
10:00 they really relied on just the plastic colors alone. They did a nice job at
10:03 least at painting the tops of his shoulders and that headpiece. That's a
10:06 really nice looking Owlman. Definitely one that's worth picking up if you ever
10:10 get the chance to find this one. A big thank you once again to the folks over
10:13 at McFarland toys that did come through and provide the sample of the brand new
10:16 DC multiverse forever evil Owlman. I remembered it this time. What do you guys
10:20 think of the figure? Let me know down below in the comment section. Is this one you
10:23 guys could certainly see yourselves picking up? And of the crime syndicate
10:26 let me throw this questioning out to you the viewing audience. Who's your
10:29 favorite member? Is it Owlman? Let me know down below. Also as well hey if you guys
10:34 popping up at the very end this video you want a little bit more time to check
10:36 out the other things I've looked at from McFarland toys that's okay at the very
10:40 end of this video we'll be popping up a playlist feel free to give that a gander
10:43 it's all the other things I've looked at from not only McFarland toys but
10:46 also DC multiverse. We are gonna be looking at speaking at which some more
10:49 DC multiverse reviews those will be coming in the pipeline so of course
10:52 keeping sure you're always keeping your peepers peeled to this channel as always
10:55 guys thanks for watching see you guys next time
