00:00 Hey, all right, now you can charge your phone with an unlicensed nuclear
00:04 accelerator. Here's a look at the Power Idols Ghostbuster VHS edition Vankman
00:08 wireless phone charger.
00:12 It's time to call the Ghostbusters. It looks like mischievous ghosts have
00:25 possessed your retro VHS of the paranormal cult classic as it's grown
00:29 arms and legs as well as the ability to wirelessly charge your devices. This is
00:33 officially part of the Power Idols range, a collectible series of wirelessly
00:37 charging docks with designs based on retro packaging of your favorite movies,
00:41 TV shows, and video games. Well, I don't know about busting, but I know that
00:46 charging makes me feel good, charging my phone that is. I don't know how many
00:49 times I've left for the day for work realizing I forgot to charge my phone
00:52 and it's sitting at 10%. That's not gonna happen anymore now that I've got the
00:56 Power Idols here Ghostbusters. I'd like to thank the folks over at Just Geek that
01:00 did provide this sample. It's currently available over on their site if you've
01:04 been looking for a holiday great gift idea for somebody else that's a big
01:07 Ghostbusters fan. It's available on their site for $56.24. As for the Power Idols
01:12 Ghostbuster, it stands at I would say nine and a half inches in height or it's
01:17 gonna be about 24 centimeters tall. The only thing that gets packed along with
01:21 the Power Idols is in fact the power cable, a USB-C power cable to be exact.
01:26 This will plug on to the back of the base and of course charge then your
01:29 phone when you're sitting it on the docking station here on the front. Of
01:33 course before we actually do this by the way, let's have a look though at the
01:36 Power Idols Ghostbusters. Ironically enough, they actually call this the Peter
01:39 Venkman and I'm sure they didn't really need to call it that at all. It's also
01:43 the VHS copy release as well so you can see it does have the VHS cover case of
01:47 the original Ghostbusters. This superhuman, supernatural, spectacular.
01:51 They're here to save the world. I really like the idea that they actually decided
01:55 instead just to have a generic body on the back that they actually did instead
01:58 give us a VHS cover. If you flip it around actually on the back you'll even
02:02 see stills from the movie itself. I also like the way they've sort of weathered
02:06 and aged the actual insert for the case so it does look like an old case that
02:10 where you would have found it an old video store for example. Now again like
02:14 it's called the Peter Venkman but there's nothing really to necessarily
02:17 say it's Peter Venkman. Normally you could say well it has like for example
02:20 the name patch but because of course now his body's been replaced by the actual
02:24 Ghostbusters case there's nothing again really to tell us that this is
02:27 specifically Peter Venkman. It does have though on the side the little
02:31 Ghostbusters patch. You may notice already that it's also carrying around a
02:34 ghost trap. I think it also would have been fun if they had had a little bit of
02:37 smoke. Just clear plastic trickling of smoke coming from the trap so it
02:42 actually looks like it's been used. He does have a little hose there on the
02:45 side of his leg and then we've flipped around the back you can see that he is
02:49 packing himself a Ghostbuster proton pack with of course the neutrino wand
02:52 still housed on the side of it. It's nicely detailed for really what it is.
02:56 It's a really nice little rendition of a Ghostbuster and of course the whole idea
03:00 in mind is the fact that you're gonna be taking yourself your phone and you're
03:03 gonna plug it on top of the display. Now it is a 10 watt fast wireless
03:08 charge cable so when you are plugging in it's gonna be charging at 10 watts. It
03:12 charges it actually quite fast. I've actually had my phone sitting on the
03:15 station. The thing I also really like about is the convenience of not having
03:19 to worry about always taking the cable always plugging into my outlet and then
03:22 taking my phone for example which I just happen to have one of my phones right
03:25 here for example just plug it on the bottom and it always charged my phone
03:28 that way in the morning. Now what I can do instead is if you look on the back of
03:32 the display stand there is of course a little port there that you're gonna take
03:36 your USB-C and that's gonna plug onto the back and this just fits very
03:41 conveniently in place and then this will appear to illuminate. It will start in
03:46 blue essentially when it's not being charged and then we'll go from red to
03:50 yellow to green. Green being the full and final charge of the phone. You'll also
03:54 see that also as well when we get this plugged in. So what I am gonna do is I'm
03:58 just gonna get this all plugged in then I'm gonna grab my phone and I'll show
04:01 you exactly how this thing charges. Why I ended up having to take a cutaway was
04:06 just because I had to find the cable and I had to plug it in. It doesn't plug in
04:09 with a cord for example it has to plug in with USB so you can either plug it
04:13 into anything that's USB enabled for example like your PC, your laptop, even if
04:17 you have a USB hub. I just happen to have my USB hub but I had to kind of reach to
04:21 the side and kind of fit it behind it like the side of my desk so that's why I
04:25 had to kind of step away for a second. As it is right now you can see that the
04:28 base is blue so there's nothing really charging on the base until you actually
04:31 take your phone. Take your phone, whatever phone you want to use, it is compatible
04:36 with pretty much most of the models and then you'll sit it on top. One thing I
04:40 didn't actually show you though when on the top of the Power Idles, this stand is
04:44 actually a fairly long lip too so it's gonna hold your phone and stabilize your
04:47 phone well but this is all rubbery too so it helps to kind of give traction to
04:52 the phone and prevent it from slipping off the base. So we're gonna go ahead and
04:55 grab my phone. It's not the phone I normally use but this just happens to be
04:59 a phone I can show you at least. You'll see that the phone will turn on and the
05:03 phone is currently set at 69 so it's almost 70%. Now the base is seeing that
05:08 as green as it's almost a full charge. If my phone was say half or just a little
05:13 less than half it would be illuminating more in yellow or if it was really low
05:17 as it sometimes be the case when I'm leaving and rushing in the morning I
05:20 don't always have time to charge my phone right away or I say let's say I
05:23 forget to charge it the night before then it would be illuminating in red and
05:27 it's one way to actually know without even having to go and flip the phone on
05:30 to know exactly where the percentage sits kind of gauging it more from the
05:34 color. If it's red again it needs to sit for a while if it's yellow you're
05:37 probably almost ready to go and when it's green you're good to go to start
05:40 busting some ghosts. It again is a really nice fun way to charge the phone and
05:44 there's certainly the simplicity that goes along with it as well instead of
05:47 having to always rely on a cord for example to plug into the bottom of your
05:51 phone. Always having to find of course a plug or outlet. This at least is
05:54 something that can always sit out by your desk which is exactly where I'm
05:57 going to be putting it. You can have it sitting on your desk sitting next to
06:00 where I'm gonna have it kind of be pretty much next to my keyboard and then
06:03 when I'm ready in the morning without having to worry and fuss around about
06:06 cables simply just go and put my phone against the power idles and it starts
06:10 the charge right away. So let's just say for the sake of argument you like the
06:14 idea of wirelessly charging your phone by using a character like this but you're
06:17 not a big fan of Ghostbusters that's okay. Just Geek actually has several
06:21 different power idles available ones from Back to the Future, Jaws, ET and also
06:26 Sonic the Hedgehog. The same rule applies as basically a character that's holding
06:30 and docking your phone on the front. The benefit of it though is it's wirelessly
06:33 charging so you never have to worry about plugging in a cable again. Each one
06:37 of the power idles is on their site for $56.24 or about $57. I think again for a
06:42 novelty gift like this it's kind of a fun way especially if we're now into
06:46 holiday shopping season if you want to get yourself or your friends or somebody
06:50 else that's into novelty gifts this might be a fun one you want to put under
06:54 the tree this year. Big thank you once again to the folks over at Just Geek that
06:57 did provide the sample of the power idles Ghostbuster wireless charging dock
07:02 that we could have a look at this review. If you guys enjoyed this video I want to
07:05 hit with a like. If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and
07:07 you'd like to certainly stick around for more we might actually even look at more
07:11 Just Geek gift ideas during the holiday season. Kind of give you guys some ideas
07:15 before time starts running out. Not to the post-apocalyptic time running out
07:19 where cats and dogs are living together but we may very well have a look at some
07:23 other gift ideas in upcoming videos so stay tuned for that. As always guys
07:27 thanks for watching see you guys next time.
