00:00 All of the other reindeers used to laugh and call them names. Used to.
00:04 Here's your Christmas spot on the McFarland Toys Twisted Xmas Rudy the Reindeer.
00:09 [music]
00:24 McFarland Toys Twisted Xmas line takes a dark and disturbed departure from the Merry Magical North Pole.
00:30 Having grown tired of pulling Santa's sleigh, Ruby rebels and pays jolly old Santa a visit he'll never forget.
00:36 On his path to payback, I hope that Rudy pays a visit to the island of misfit toys.
00:41 I'd love to see Jack in the Box get his just desserts.
00:44 Before, of course, we get a closer look at Rudy the Reindeer, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:49 I don't think, in fact, he's actually called Rudolph. They just chose to decide instead to call him Rudy.
00:54 It's the only one figure that really does take a departure from his more classic-looking name.
00:58 Even like Frosty the Snowman, it was still Frosty the Snowman on the package, but I believe this guy was called Rudy the Reindeer.
01:04 With his antlers attached on the top of his head, you're looking at the figure standing 7 inches in height, or he's going to be 18 centimeters tall.
01:12 I'll be filling in the frame quite quickly.
01:14 Bring in the other figures we've already had a look at from the Twisted Xmas line.
01:17 We first looked at Santa Claus, then we looked at Mrs. Claus. Try not to block Santa in the process.
01:21 Most recently, in fact, we looked at Jack Frost, and then my favorite of the bunch, here's what he also looks like with Frosty the Snowman.
01:29 Rudy, as he's known by his better friends, comes included with one axe for an accessory.
01:33 The axe itself does have a festive look to it. Not only does it have a string of jingle bells wrapped all around the handle,
01:39 but on the end, you can also see as well sculpted and painted are tiny little evergreen trees.
01:44 It does actually detach in two places.
01:46 I don't think when you first got this out of the tray, it's been a long time since I removed these first from their tray,
01:51 that the axe was in two parts.
01:53 But you do actually want to detach them, as it makes things a lot easier than slide it into Rudy's hand.
01:57 The actual handle of it, if you look at it, actually has more of a square base peg instead of a circular peg.
02:03 But it seems like you can still rotate it around.
02:06 It doesn't have one specific configuration where, for example, it doesn't work one way.
02:11 It seems, even though it is, again, a squared off circle, it fits fine really just putting it in any which way.
02:17 Although, fitting it one way does make it a little bit more secure, but not really by much.
02:22 The actual head of the axe does look like it would be quite sharp.
02:25 I do wish that there was maybe a bloodied version. I tried to check online.
02:29 I don't think, in fact, any of these had bloodied variants.
02:31 There was the variant, of course, of Mrs. Claus that did have the blonde hair.
02:35 But I don't think any of the other figures had, like, say, for example, more bloodied versions.
02:39 Like, usually that was the case when we got, like, the McFarlane movie Maniacs, for example.
02:43 I don't think the rule applied, again, when we looked at the Twisted X-Men figures, that there were variants of them.
02:48 I do kind of wish, in a way, that they could have added a whole bit of blood splattered across the actual head of the axe.
02:53 Because I think that would have added a nice touch to him.
02:55 It looks like he probably has been hacking and slashing the elves payback time for all the time.
02:59 They actually didn't even clean out his little pen where he's been sleeping.
03:03 If they're not going to be cleaning up the mess, then he's going to be making more of a mess for them to clean.
03:08 Now, the axe does fit into his hand, although it sits really loose.
03:11 First of all, though, the figure comes also included with a display stand.
03:14 The figure, though, does need the display stand. As you can see, he sort of collapses.
03:18 It doesn't really help that one of his legs is extremely loose for all the times that I've actually had this guy on display.
03:23 But certainly, the display stand does come in handy.
03:26 While there's no reindeer treats, no actual droppings anywhere, what he seems to have is all these little rocks.
03:31 He's got a big giant rock there on the side.
03:33 It's still molded in the same sort of frosted blue as the Mrs. Claus we've already had a look at.
03:38 Jack Frost also had a very similar kind of plastic that they've used.
03:41 Frosty was a little bit dirtier because he used a more translucent, clear plastic.
03:45 There is one peg right here that's going to attach to only one hoof.
03:48 If you actually look at the figure, not both of them have peg holes.
03:52 It's only really this one that's going to plug onto the bottom of the base.
03:55 So when you're attaching them, there really is, again, only one configuration.
03:58 But while this is aside, I did also want to show you, talking a little bit about the axe.
04:02 The axe does, as I already mentioned, does detach.
04:05 You just take the axe, slide it through his hand, and then once you get it through the other side,
04:11 we're just going to go ahead and plug and cap the end of the axe.
04:14 The thing about it, though, is that the axe sits really loose.
04:16 One thing that certainly helps, if I don't drop the bottom of...
04:19 Can I reach it from here? I think I can reach it from here. Can I reach it?
04:22 There it is right there. All right, good.
04:24 If you attach it onto the end of the axe like this, what you can kind of do instead is have it resting against his foot,
04:31 kind of like that, and that kind of helps to hold the axe.
04:34 Because without that, the axe, again, really sits loose inside his hands.
04:37 Would they be still hands? I guess they would be hooves.
04:39 If you look at the hand, I think it's a little bit too wide to accommodate the handle of the axe.
04:44 So again, it might just be easier to kind of rest it against his foot.
04:47 That's usually what I've usually done in earlier...
04:49 Like, all the other times I've usually had these guys displayed on the shelf, as I've got the axe.
04:54 Again, the handle, turning it the one way...
04:57 Like, if you have it this way, you can see it really sits loose.
05:00 You just want to make sure that you've got it lined up properly.
05:02 Yeah, that's going to stay better in place.
05:04 But definitely have it resting more against his foot.
05:07 You'll find it does a much better job of him holding the axe.
05:10 That being said, let's move that to the side.
05:12 Getting a closer look at Rudy now.
05:14 One other thing that is something I suppose that was assembled, I think from what I remember,
05:18 these antlers were something that attached onto the top of his head.
05:22 You can see that there's holes on both sides, and then you got the antlers.
05:25 They basically just plug in place.
05:27 When I do eventually put these guys back in bags, because these aren't figures that I have out displayed all year round,
05:32 what I usually do is all the things that are more prone to being bent or broken,
05:36 I usually take them off and I put them loose inside the bag along with the figure.
05:40 That goes for, though, Rudy's.
05:42 With his antlers, these antlers are very prone to bending and warping,
05:45 and I don't really want to put them back into a bag the way he is right now,
05:48 because I'm sure these are probably going to warp to softer plastic.
05:51 So what I usually do is, again, I just take these off, put them back in the bag,
05:54 and then I put Rudy along with them.
05:56 The antlers do add a lot more, certainly, to the design of the character.
06:00 It really is an interesting-looking reindeer character,
06:03 because if you look at it like this, it almost looks as if that's just the head alone,
06:07 until you realize that's only just the top row of his teeth, as grimy and bloody as they may be.
06:13 If you look further down, you realize that's the bottom of his jaw right there.
06:18 He's stretched his jaw in such a way, it kind of reminds me...
06:23 What was that one character? Was it the knight? The knight flyer?
06:27 Was it the knight flyer that could elongate its jaw like this and wrap around someone's head?
06:32 Somebody's probably going to let me know down below in the comments section.
06:34 Like similar to Frosty, you can see there's several rows of teeth.
06:38 Although the teeth aren't as sharp necessarily as Frosty's,
06:41 there are these tiny little teeth, but there's so many of them,
06:44 you can imagine he's going to inflict damage when he eventually gets a hold of you.
06:48 There is also one little interesting point, that he has a tongue,
06:51 and the tongue is sticking out in the back of his throat, nicely painted on the inside of it.
06:55 They've given a bit of a sheen, so it looks like it's wet and slimy and mucusy.
07:00 Really an interesting looking head sculpt for the character.
07:03 Now he's got a lot of cool things going for him,
07:05 is the fact that he has all this sort of reindeer, like sleigh bells.
07:09 He's got, for example, like Christmas lights wrapped around his arms and his legs, for example.
07:14 And he's also got it wrapped around the front.
07:16 So he's a very decorative looking character, which is really something that helps this character's design.
07:21 If not for that, he literally would just be a back hind leg standing character,
07:25 that just happens to have an axe in his hand.
07:27 At least to McFarlane's credit,
07:29 they found an interesting way to add the horror element of it,
07:32 by certainly having the mouth open the way that it is,
07:34 and added a festive amount to it, by adding again all these additional pieces.
07:38 Now these are attached by the tops by the shoulders.
07:41 They sit really loose down below here,
07:43 and again, like all these little pieces are, all these lights are sculpted to the actual body itself.
07:48 He also has some, again, some jingle bells down below by his hooves.
07:51 Again, it's a really fun looking figure.
07:53 I also really like the fact he has braids.
07:55 Now this is one thing that if you're buying this figure loose,
07:58 you really want to make sure first his antlers are intact, they're not broken.
08:01 You also want to make sure that he has these dreaded hair, these,
08:04 I guess they're kind of hair dreads, that he's got also from the back of his hair.
08:07 These locks, as you can see, have been very, very small, like little tiny braids.
08:12 But they're only attached by just these tiny little pieces right here.
08:15 I would imagine that they probably would have attached them loose,
08:18 or attached them separately, and not sculpted the figure with it.
08:21 But it's certainly something, I've seen pictures online of Rudy being sold like loose,
08:26 and a couple of these were broken off.
08:28 So you just want to make sure if you're buying this figure,
08:29 you're buying it with all the four strands.
08:31 He actually has four dreadlocks.
08:32 All of them, the individual braids are all, you know, again,
08:35 something that's very, very susceptible to breaking.
08:38 So let's talk a little bit about the figure's articulation.
08:40 Now again, like Rudy and all of the Christmas, the Twisted Christmas figures,
08:44 they're very limited on articulation.
08:46 You would look at this, and you would assume that you only have straight swivels in his shoulders,
08:50 and you would be correct.
08:51 So he has swivels on one shoulder, the other shoulder I've never really been able to move.
08:56 It looks as if I move one of the braids out of the way,
08:59 you can see like there's a cut right there,
09:01 and yet I don't think I've ever really been able to move this.
09:04 I've never really wanted to fight it either,
09:06 because with one arm moving, that's more than enough for me.
09:09 I mean, the figure does also have swivels in his wrists,
09:11 and that's never been a problem.
09:13 But I've never been able to rotate that one shoulder.
09:15 I don't even think in the earlier reviews I've done of this guy,
09:17 I've ever really been able to move it.
09:19 It doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
09:20 Like Santa Claus, it does exist.
09:22 But I'm sure I can't, I just don't want to fight it for the risk that I may potentially break the peg.
09:27 That's the last thing I would want to do,
09:29 considering the price that these figures are going for now.
09:31 The figure also has swivels in his legs.
09:33 And with the time that I've had this figure,
09:35 years that I've actually had these figures in my collection,
09:37 unfortunately, like the thighs are the one thing,
09:40 it's actually the loosest of all the figures I've looked at here.
09:42 It's the loosest here on Rudy.
09:44 These swing out so frequently,
09:46 that is really a good thing that the figure does have a display stand,
09:49 because if not for that, he really just doesn't have the means to stand on his own.
09:52 I mean, you could kind of balance him successfully,
09:55 but I feel with the looseness of the thigh the way it is right now,
09:58 all it really needs to do is swivel out,
10:00 and Rudy's going to take a tumble.
10:01 So we're going to go ahead and get him back onto his display stand.
10:04 Just before we actually do that,
10:05 I did also want to show you one little additional sculpting.
10:07 While not maybe necessarily looking like a spawn skull,
10:10 it's a very similar type of skull that he has on the front there as well.
10:13 The figure is really interesting.
10:15 I don't think he's as interesting, for example,
10:17 as the other figures we've already had a look at.
10:19 In a way, I've sort of been like looking at my favorite figures first,
10:22 and then kind of looking at the other figures that just happen to make up this wave.
10:25 Rudy's an interesting enough character,
10:27 but he's not my favorite.
10:29 I think a lot of it also just has to do as well with...
10:32 I like the sculpting of it.
10:33 I think in a way, though, maybe the open mouth,
10:35 the way as elongated as they made it,
10:37 maybe it takes a little bit away from the character
10:39 that if they had maybe made the mouth just a little bit more open like this.
10:43 I think it loses something until you realize that's the front of his mouth.
10:47 Because if you're looking at it, actually, you'd think for a second,
10:50 at least when I first looked at it,
10:51 I thought his mouth was way up here.
10:53 I thought his mouth was kind of closed, for example,
10:54 until I realized his whole entire front torso is his open mouth.
10:58 Ironically enough, also,
10:59 not that we were looking at it in the price point
11:01 in which these figures were still going for,
11:03 I did say that Mrs. Claus was one of the most expensive.
11:06 Rudy, unfortunately, though, is one of the least expensive figures
11:09 when it came to the Twisted X-mas.
11:11 Looking online right now,
11:12 I can actually find several Rudy Reindeers that are under $80.
11:16 I found one that was marked down to $67 at the time of doing this review.
11:20 That's $67 Canadian as well,
11:22 so it would be even less when it comes to US.
11:24 He is certainly the easiest, I feel, to find when it comes to these figures.
11:28 And again, doesn't have necessarily the reasoning why I looked at this guy second last.
11:33 He just isn't as interesting, maybe, as the other four figures that we've looked at before.
11:37 Of course, I did have to check, and sure enough, it was the 1997 The Night Flyer movie I was thinking of.
11:43 I'm sure there's other examples as well of a creature elongating,
11:46 stretching out its jaw to kill its prey,
11:48 but The Night Flyer was the one I was thinking of.
11:50 Here, though, Rudy the Reindeer, I've got displayed here.
11:53 I don't have the axe resting against his foot,
11:55 but with the length of the axe handle,
11:56 you can also rest it on the shelf where you've got the figure displayed.
11:59 It still sits, unfortunately, loose in his hand,
12:01 but at least it will prevent the axe from wobbling around.
12:04 You can also, as well, rest it against his antlers, which I've currently got going as well.
12:08 Of all the figures that we have gotten in this wave,
12:11 I think the one that I really wanted the most to be a bloodied release or bloodied variant
12:14 was Rudy the Reindeer.
12:15 I think it would have added a little bit of charm to that.
12:18 And considering that, really, McFarlane, at the time that he was doing these figures,
12:21 this is 2007, after all, predating that,
12:24 he was doing lots of bloodied variants,
12:26 even ones from movie maniacs, even ones from Spawn.
12:28 I'm sure surprised that he actually couldn't have done this as well for the Twisted X-mas.
12:32 Get some more mileage from the mold, after all.
12:34 I mean, not maybe put blood on all of the characters.
12:37 Mrs. Claus makes no sense.
12:38 Maybe Santa Claus could have had some blood on his claws.
12:40 Jack Frost probably doesn't make any sense either.
12:43 But I would say that Frosty the Snowman and Rudy the Reindeer
12:46 could have benefited the most by getting also a bloodied variant released of him.
12:50 Let me know down below in the comments section
12:52 if you guys have been collecting the Twisted X-mas figures,
12:54 if you have Rudy the Reindeer, or if you don't,
12:57 what do you think of the figure?
12:58 Let me know down below in the comments section.
12:59 Also as well, if you guys enjoyed this video,
13:01 I want to hit it with a like.
13:02 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing,
13:04 we have, by the way, one left, one last figure to review,
13:07 and that's actually the Santa's Little Helpers.
13:10 In fact, we're not going to be looking at just one figure.
13:12 I think there's a total of three in that set.
13:14 We're going to be looking at those in the upcoming video.
13:17 To ensure that you're not missing out, by the way,
13:18 on anything that's coming up here regularly,
13:21 make sure you hit that bell notification,
13:22 it's the crucial thing.
13:23 Making sure, of course, before that,
13:25 you're also hitting that subscribe button down below.
13:27 And of course, always keep your festive peepers peeled to this channel.
13:30 Not only during this December month,
13:32 we'll be looking at Christmas videos, Christmas spots,
13:35 but we also will be still going and looking at the regular stuff
13:38 that always comes here on a regular basis.
13:40 The horror figures, the superhero figures,
13:42 there's always an abundance of gifts underneath this guy's tree.
13:45 Of course, as always, guys, thanks for watching.
13:47 See you guys next time.
