00:00 "Tantor!"
00:02 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most tantalising horror releases set to terrify us in 2024.
00:16 We won't be including horror comedies like Beetlejuice 2 or Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, however.
00:22 And a reminder that all release dates are subject to change.
00:26 10. Night Swim
00:34 Release date January 5th, 2024
00:37 Horror fans won't have to wait long to get their frights in 2024, as Bryce McGuire's feature-length debut will swim into cinemas at the start of the year.
00:50 Night Swim finds the Waller family, headed by actors Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, moving into a new house.
00:57 Sure, there's some fixing up to do, but the price is a total steal. What could go wrong?
01:03 Well, for one, the backyard swimming pool is haunted.
01:07 We admit saying the premise out loud sounds silly, but the film's trailer reassures us that we're in for a genuinely tense time.
01:14 "My kids have seen things, and I'm worried something is happening to my husband."
01:21 "Dad!" "I've been looking for you."
01:24 If Jaws made us afraid to go in the ocean, Night Swim will likely make us think twice about taking a late night dip.
01:31 "When we were fixing up the pool, they said it hadn't been used in 15 years."
01:39 "Maybe they weren't pool people."
01:41 9. Imaginary - Release Date March 8, 2024
01:45 From Chucky to Annabelle to Megan, it's clear moviegoers just can't get enough of a possessed doll.
01:51 "What are you doing?"
01:52 "Your angry eyes won't look upon him, and our lives will be at stake."
01:56 "I'm a beast, people will slap right across your face."
02:00 Well, folks at Blumhouse are hoping that killer doll appeal will translate to this film about a killer teddy bear.
02:07 "Can I hang out with your imaginary friend?"
02:09 "He's not imaginary. He's not your friend."
02:13 Yep, meet Chauncey, a cute and cuddly teddy bear.
02:17 Chauncey was once the beloved imaginary friend of Jessica.
02:21 Angry that she grew out of needing him, Chauncey decides to take his frustrations out on Jessica and her young daughter.
02:27 Cue the diabolical chaos.
02:30 "He says he's right behind you."
02:34 The film is helmed by director Jeff Wadlow of Kick-Ass 2 and Truth or Dare fame, and promises plenty of jumpy delights.
02:43 "Truth or Dare! Truth or Dare! Truth or Dare! Truth or Dare! Truth or Dare!"
02:48 "Stop!"
02:49 8. Smile 2 - Release Date October 18, 2024
02:53 Parker Finn's 2022 film Smile was a massive hit, grossing over $217 million from just a $17 million budget.
03:02 "I'm seeing something no one else can see except for me. It's smiling at me."
03:08 "No! Oh my god! No!"
03:12 The execs at Paramount Pictures are hoping for a similar success with the follow-up feature.
03:18 While no story or cast details have been shared at this time, things will most certainly continue the chilling premise of the first installment.
03:29 "You're going to die! You're going to die! You're going to die!"
03:34 The plot revolved around a malevolent entity that possessed people and caused them to off themselves,
03:40 all while they sported a maniacal smile.
03:43 If that wasn't bad enough, the dire fate is passed on to those who witnessed the traumatising deed.
03:48 Needless to say, horror fans are grinning big with anticipation.
03:52 "How does that make you feel?"
03:54 "Not bad."
03:57 7. Speak No Evil Release Date - August 9th, 2024
04:05 If you're thinking that you already saw this excellently crafted Danish horror film back in 2022, you're not wrong.
04:11 "He's only a child for Christ's sake."
04:15 "You can't talk to him that way, what is wrong with you?"
04:18 And if you didn't see it, you absolutely should. So, what's the deal?
04:23 Well, like any great foreign cinematic offering, Hollywood will be giving Speak No Evil the remake treatment.
04:30 The original film sees a Danish family become fast friends with a Dutch family during a vacation, all leading to an unexpected invitation.
04:38 Let's just say, the union takes a turn into some tense and troubling revelations.
04:44 "No one's forcing you to stay, but I really hope you do because today is going to be a great day."
04:49 With James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, Scoop McNary and Alex West-Leffler taking the lead in this North American adaptation,
04:58 the unsettling story appears to be in good hands.
05:01 "So many things have felt so wrong."
05:04 6. A Quiet Place Day One Release Date - June 28th, 2024
05:10 A Quiet Place Day One will be the third entry in the popular post-apocalyptic horror series.
05:16 "Ahhhhhh!"
05:22 But, as the title alludes to, it will serve as a prequel.
05:26 Not only that, but it will also centre on a new crop of characters, pushing the Abbott family to the wayside.
05:32 Also new will be the film's director, as John Krasinski stepped aside for Michael Sarnoski,
05:39 the filmmaker behind the lauded Nicolas Cage-starring film, Pig.
05:43 "Ok, listen, we don't even have the pig anymore, ok? I mean, I swear."
05:46 "Who has it?"
05:47 "I don't know."
05:51 "Did you see him?"
05:55 The story will be set during the early days of the sound-driven Monsters Takeover of Earth.
06:00 And with a cast including Lupita Nyong'o, Alex Wolfe, Joseph Quinn, and a returning,
06:09 Ji-Mon Hon-Soo, we can't wait to see how the horror unfolds.
06:14 5. Terrifier 3 - Release Date - October 25th, 2024
06:25 After three feature films, two in the Terrifier franchise, Art the Clown has solidified himself
06:31 as one of the most terrifying horror movie villains out there.
06:34 "All the way from Miles County, please welcome Art the Clown!"
06:39 The psychotic clown's unspeakable acts have even caused moviegoers to become violently ill during showings.
06:49 So, what's next for the twisted killer? A Christmas movie, of course.
06:54 Yep, although releasing at the end of October, Terrifier 3 will actually be a holiday-themed slasher.
07:00 The film is also said to reintroduce possessed survivor Victoria Hayes and further flesh out Art's origin story.
07:08 And if the previous outings are any indication, you may want to hold off on the popcorn upon viewing.
07:14 Because there will be blood.
07:16 "Fine. Here."
07:20 4. The First Omen - Release Date - April 5th, 2024
07:24 "God rules. May he rule."
07:30 A prequel to Richard Donner's 1976 cult classic horror film,
07:34 The First Omen will tell the story of a woman who is sent away to Rome to begin working in the church.
07:40 While there, she uncovers a dark conspiracy involving the birth of evil incarnate.
07:46 Naturally, she begins to question her faith.
07:49 "What do you know about my son?"
07:52 "Everything."
07:53 Audiences will remember that the original The Omen,
07:56 starring Gregory Peck as an ambassador who believes his young son to be the Antichrist.
08:01 "I want Damien to die too."
08:04 That film spawned several sequels, a remake, and even a TV series.
08:09 This will mark the first prequel in the series, however.
08:12 While it no doubt has big shoes to fill, The First Omen also has an opportunity to expand
08:18 on the franchise's chilling lore in a meaningful way.
08:22 "It's not a child."
08:24 "How can he know that? Maybe he's wrong. It's insane!"
08:28 "I won't have anything to do with murdering a little boy. He's not responsible. I won't do it!"
08:35 3. Alien Romulus - Release Date - August 16th, 2024
08:43 For those apprehensive about another entry in the Alien franchise, let us put you at ease.
08:50 *panting*
08:58 For starters, the film is directed by Fede Alvarez.
09:01 Horror fans already know that Alvarez was behind the 2013 Evil Dead reboot
09:06 and the 2016 standout Don't Breathe.
09:10 "You are all going to die tonight."
09:12 And for those looking to hear Ridley Scott's name, fear not.
09:15 He serves as a producer on the film.
09:18 *screaming*
09:23 Plus, crew members who worked on the xenomorph design for Aliens were brought back for Alien Romulus.
09:29 Plot details are being kept close to the chest, but we do know that this outing will take place
09:34 between Ridley Scott's Alien and the James Cameron-directed sequel, Aliens.
09:40 It's also best to remember that in space, no one can hear you scream.
09:45 "They're all around us, man. Jesus."
09:48 "Maybe they don't show up on infrared at all."
09:51 *screaming*
09:57 2. Maxine - Release Date - To Be Determined 2024
10:02 Without question, writer-director Ty West is on track to deliver one of the best horror trilogies of all time.
10:14 Of course, it requires Maxine to live up to the excellence of its predecessors, X and Pearl.
10:20 But with the remarkable Mia Goth returning, we have all the faith in the world.
10:26 "I'm married!"
10:29 The film places Maxine in 1980s Los Angeles, where she's oh so desperate to achieve fame.
10:36 "I don't want to end up like my mama. I want to be dancing up on the screen like the pretty girls in the pictures."
10:41 "I want what they have so badly. To be perfect, to be loved from as many people as possible, to make up for all my time spent suffering."
10:52 Joining Goth on screen will be the likes of Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon, just to name a few.
11:02 No release date has been made official for the sultry slasher pic, but with Pearl having premiered at the Venice International Film Festival,
11:10 insiders anticipate a similar debut for Maxine.
11:14 "Make it so windy, the wildest time of the night, stand by me."

11:35 1. Nosferatu Release date December 25th, 2024
11:41 In perhaps one of the most anticipated films of the last decade, Nosferatu will finally make its way to screens in December of 2024.
11:49 The gothic horror remake has been in development since 2015, but what has us most excited are the people behind the film, namely director Robert Eggers.
12:04 Thanks to films like The Witch and The Lighthouse, Eggers' eerie output has been exceptional over the past couple of years.
12:12 "Let Neptune strike you dead, Winslow! Hark! Hark, Triton! Hark!"
12:23 Making things even more tantalising is the casting of Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok.
12:30 "Tasty, tasty, beautiful fear."
12:34 Add in Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Willem Dafoe, and you've got the makings of a stellar vampire picture.
