00:07 because it somehow fascinates you

00:10 or it is fashionable in the part you come from,

00:13 or it somehow feeds your ego

00:19 and makes you feel more manly,

00:22 then the basis of your choice is not really very different.

00:28 It is very different from that of your parents or near ones.

00:33 Your parents or near ones are telling you,

00:37 you are just the body.

00:38 You do not agree with them and you are saying,

00:42 no, I am not the body.

00:44 Instead, I am the subtle body, the ego,

00:49 and therefore I want to be a soldier.

00:52 If that is the reason you want to be a soldier,

00:55 then there's not much difference between you

00:59 and those you are contesting.

01:02 They are asserting you are the gross body

01:07 and you are asserting that you are the subtle body.

01:11 Not much difference.

01:12 Instead, if you want to become a soldier

01:17 because you want to uphold something high,

01:22 something worthy, something sublime,

01:24 then it is a different matter altogether.

01:26 If you want to become India's soldier

01:31 because you understand the soul of India

01:34 and you think that the soul of India is worth defending,

01:38 then it's auspicious that you are thinking

01:42 of becoming a soldier.

01:44 Otherwise not.

01:49 It is not really the action that counts.

01:53 One has to look at the intention.

01:56 One has to look at the constitution of the actor.

01:58 What makes you inclined towards the defense services?

02:05 What exactly would you be defending?

02:09 If you're defending just a piece of land

02:13 or your own self-worth or ego,

02:16 then there is not much in this choice.

02:20 But if you know the great principles

02:25 that India stands for,

02:27 if you understand their worth,

02:30 and if you realize that those principles

02:33 are worth defending,

02:34 that those principles are worth laying down your life for,

02:37 then I would wholeheartedly recommend to you

02:42 that you should definitely become a soldier.
