West Midlands Police have praised a 'local hero' who helped to save a three year old and driver from a car that was submerged in flood water in Hall Green. Storm Henk brought heavy rain and winds to the region on Tuesday, causing travel chaos in the process.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape in the Revolucion de Cuba bar and restaurant on Temple Street. Police were called to the scene shortly before 2am on new years day. The 24-year-old suspect has since been bailed. The victim is being supported.

Hospitals across Birmingham are braced for junior doctors to take the longest single consecutive strike in the history of the NHS. Thousands of appointments are expected to be cancelled as they set to walk out for six days in a major escalation of their pay dispute with the government.
