00:00 Sabrina the Animated Series, Episode 51.
00:03 Somehow a kid's floating in a suit in a kid's science class.
00:08 I like seeing Sabrina in a lab coat.
00:10 She thinks she'll be humiliated by the science fair competition.
00:13 Chloe reassures her, which would only make sense if she was lying because of her impossibly dumb project idea.
00:21 Somehow her competition Harvey and Jim are playing to make impossible science projects.
00:27 Harvey's gonna make cold fusion, which is impossible.
00:30 Out of nowhere, Harvey says Pi is the smartest kid in Greendale, even though he's a conspiracy theorist paranormal investigator.
00:39 The episode starts getting boring with nothing really happening.
00:43 Chloe says about the bully, "Uh-oh, one of the experiments got loose."
00:47 At least the bully eats moldy bread and gags.
00:51 Why does Sabrina say no instead of running away?
00:54 The show hates her enough that she got barfed on.
00:57 Why did Harvey say happily that Slugloaf got her good when Sabrina's his friend?
01:03 Chloe's locker is stuck, so out of nowhere it's revealed Pi can bring out tools he wouldn't have as a preteen for it.
01:12 Harvey would've brought a skateboard to school.
01:15 Chloe says she better invent a partner.
01:18 Why does she give her any ideas?
01:20 Pi fails and should know nobody would believe him that he meant to do that.
01:25 The show kept telling me that he was a genius, so why did he fail?
01:31 It explains the snow machine.
01:34 Salem insists on mentioning Thomas Edison, so Sabrina gets the idea to use him instead of simply creating a partner for the science fair from scratch.
01:43 And for no reason, Sabrina trusts Spooky again.
01:47 Spooky gets told to hurry up, and he says she could cause the end of life by using the thing he gave her, and she doesn't care.
01:55 She's not supposed to be a complete psychopath.
01:59 Why does anyone think she's only like this in Sabrina's secret life?
02:03 Why didn't she zap it away already?
02:06 She reads out a spell to summon a young Thomas Edison, and he assumes he's dreaming and she lets him believe it.
02:14 It's interesting to see someone from the past enjoy tech like the boombox.
02:19 But I already saw a story like this in Little Sabrina when Sabrina summoned George Washington.
02:25 And she did that herself.
02:28 He took apart the boombox in the kitchen.
02:32 Why would no authority member in school question this new kid going to school and not need to see any papers?
02:40 He pops out the locker hinges.
02:42 How did Pi not think of that?
02:44 You have to read the TV Tropes page to find out that Pi is not his actual name.
02:50 Apparently his real name is Perry, so his parents were still pretty stupid in the naming department, but it's not too bad.
02:57 Harvey shows Edison out a skateboard.
03:00 Chloe asks Sabrina who is this Tom guy.
03:04 She asks Sabrina what are headphones and they disappear.
03:07 Wouldn't they have disappeared before she asked that?
03:11 Oh god, this episode is garbage.
03:13 It expects us to believe that if he keeps staying in the present, technology will keep disappearing.
03:19 Even though 1) the past is not an alternate dimension and doing stuff in it will affect the current dimension with magic.
03:26 And 2) he was always destined to be returned to the past by her.
03:31 Obviously meaning that there's no reason for this technology to disappear.
03:35 And why would technology disappear one at a time instead of all at once?
03:40 So Pi ends up suffering.
03:42 How did Sabrina not always anticipate that the kid from the past would just make outdated inventions?
03:48 Sabrina tells Chloe what she did and she says he invented everything.
03:53 Edison didn't invent the light bulb.
03:56 He waited for someone to die so that he could buy the patent from his wife at a lower price and took the credit.
04:02 Although he popularized the light bulb.
04:06 But if this episode really cared, it would have explained that.
04:10 Movies get replaced with a puppet show.
04:13 This writer doesn't understand how to write time travel.
04:16 Sabrina uses a payphone instead of just using magic to call Salem.
04:21 Why doesn't she instantly explain a problem instead of saying she has a big problem?
04:25 And it sure is convenient that payphones didn't disappear first.
04:30 She asks what Spooky meant about disrupting time.
04:33 If Salem can just look in a magic book for the answer, why hadn't Sabrina done that?
04:39 Salem says there was no one in the past to invent what he was responsible for.
04:44 When obviously someone else would have if Edison hadn't been there.
04:48 What's the point of having him as a character here if it's not going to actually educate us on how Edison was like at that point?
04:55 It'd have been more interesting because he had OCD.
04:59 Pi jealously tricks him into skateboarding to get detention.
05:03 He had no common sense thinking that he wouldn't get super final secret detention for endangering people skateboarding in the halls.
05:11 There's no way there'd be a form of detention called that where someone would be behind glass.
05:16 If the writer knew that mundane scenes and settings were too boring for Sabrina, maybe he shouldn't have written them.
05:23 Because the Savage comic got away with barely showing school.
05:27 This is normal Earth. It's supposed to be entirely realistic with the witchcraft contrasting it.
05:33 Pi took forever to confess.
05:35 Every time a mortal sees magic in the show, they get convinced by themselves that they were dreaming or hallucinated.
05:41 So Chloe should have taken Sabrina's side and told her to warp Edison to her.
05:46 The Vice Principal has an annoying voice.
05:49 They go into a cartoony elevator with no light in it.
05:52 Why didn't Sabrina tell Harvey to stay put?
05:56 She'll have to be covert about using magic then.
05:59 A rock gets thrown in front of Edison with a piece of paper on it.
06:02 It just tells him they're breaking him out of detention.
06:05 Grappling hooks pull the wall apart because of horses.
06:09 Horses can't do that. They aren't that strong.
06:12 Even if the horses are there to replace cars, there's no reason grappling hooks would still exist, right?
06:19 The Vice Principal assumes Pi is responsible for this.
06:23 To be fair, if he's supposed to be a super genius, apparently,
06:26 then it makes sense that he would jump to that conclusion if his logic is that he must have used technology to do this.
06:34 Sabrina reminds us of the bullshit that somehow, if Edison stays in the future long enough, the world will be permanently ruined.
06:42 Edison's returned to normal with the spooky jar.
06:45 Float and Kids are somehow able to float around Gem as the story ends.
06:50 The writers aren't even trying with the show. Of course, it got a lot less seasons than the sitcom.
06:55 This boring episode had Sabrina arbitrarily trust Spooky to summon Thomas Edison for a science partner,
07:01 even though she could have created someone herself who wouldn't just make outdated inventions because no duh, he's from the past.
07:09 And the writer forces Tangent because somehow technology keeps disappearing,
07:14 even though Sabrina was always planning to return Edison to the past.
07:18 And Edison didn't invent the lightbulb, he just popularized it.
07:22 And someone else could have invented the lightbulb, even if this is an alternate reality.
07:27 And this only happened to force Sabrina to use horses to break them out of the unrealistic detention room that's just below the ground.
07:35 I know the horses may be there because technology was going backwards, but she still must have used magic to give them super strength.
07:42 How is the writer so incompetent that he had Sabrina use a spell that she was told would kill everyone?
07:48 I assume Spooky just lied to mess with her, but that makes no sense because he must want his magic to get used
07:55 so that his intentional curses that ruin the spells can happen so that he can laugh evilly about them in private.
08:01 Since the spells are always cursed, I can assume that the real reason technology is disappearing is that Spooky's curse is doing it,
08:09 but that needed to be explained.
08:11 The story could have been more interesting if Edison's actual personality was taken advantage of a lot more.
08:16 It could have been a lesson about what OCD is like.
08:20 I thought the episode would be interesting because Edison was surprised at the modern technology, but it got boring quick.
08:28 All I'm being taught is the spaceball that's up "Don't summon your science partner from back in time."
08:34 If it wanted to teach us that cheating at contests shouldn't be done,
08:37 it needed to have her win and feel bad for the losers to show us the consequence,
08:42 but that won't happen because she uncharacteristically didn't realize cheating was wrong.
08:47 How can she possibly learn the lesson that it's wrong, then?
08:50 Having an unrealistic consequence is the definition of a broken S-Hump.
08:55 Sabrina the Animated Series, Episode 52
08:59 I can't stand the way the hairstylist is.
09:02 Sabrina hates the way her hair looks, and somehow everyone likes it.
09:07 She says her hair goes in front of her eye.
09:09 He says she's being ridiculous, because she's not allowed to have a different opinion on how hairstyles can be good or bad.
09:18 Somehow she asks what's going to happen if she walks into school like that when she could just point to return her hair to normal.
09:25 She's done that to change clothes.
09:27 How did her aunt fail just because she had too much hairspray and gel?
09:31 Well, that's not a plot that you should write, then.
09:34 Since when is hairspray and gel invented by mere mortals a way to make something immune to magic?
09:40 Well, that explains why Tim can make an anti-magic invention.
09:44 In this universe, they're potion ingredients.
09:47 Sabrina covers her head, and Chloe says cool lampshade.
09:52 Considering how crazy 80s hair looked,
09:56 why doesn't Sabrina ever realize that people might think her hair looks good?
10:00 I know it's not the 80s, but still.
10:03 Hilda could've shown her what the 80s hairstyles looked like.
10:07 She wants to hide from Jem, but doesn't because she's stuck waiting in line.
10:12 Hilda somehow expects to see her citizen rate without brainwashing.
10:16 She shows her a papyrus scroll with her face on it that was signed by the bearer himself,
10:21 and somehow the ticketmaster gives her a ticket, when it obviously could've been faked.
10:27 I like that she succeeded, only because it took advantage of her being a wench.
10:31 Sabrina bulls, and people laugh at her hair, and go figure that was an imagined spot like the previous one.
10:38 Gee, I wonder if no one will mock her hair when they actually see it.
10:42 I like her hat.
10:44 There's no way Harvey would say no sneaking to see something else.
10:48 I guess the ticketmaster is thinking, "I'm not getting paid enough to deny them tickets."
10:53 Someone says there's a small chunk of ticket stub missing, so this is a sub-stub,
10:58 and he whistles at an old lady to get her taken away.
11:02 I don't know why he would even care.
11:04 Sabrina gets in, and Hilda summons popcorn for free.
11:08 People run screaming from an alien.
11:10 The movie would only be called that if it was meant to be a parody.
11:14 I guess the reason the ants could get Salem in the theater was that they zapped him up.
11:19 Sabrina should've just whispered, "Let's make a run for it."
11:22 I guess the reason the ushers that would be here didn't stop them was that they aren't getting paid enough to care if no one else is hearing it.
11:29 Sabrina easily gets in the theater for the other movie.
11:32 If they just sat down instantly like normal people instead of somehow just standing there,
11:38 the usher wouldn't shine a light on them, and so the rest of the story wouldn't have happened.
11:43 Sabrina says something to somehow make him turn around the other way,
11:47 and he somehow calls them piggies looking for them.
11:50 Chloe asks Sabrina to use magic to zap them out, even though obviously Harvey would see,
11:56 and she could instead tell her to use magic covertly.
11:59 Sabrina says, "Take us back into the movie."
12:01 So even though she said "back," of course they get sent to another universe based off the movie,
12:08 and the spell also has the audience able to see them, which she didn't specify.
12:13 Sabrina wouldn't have said the spell.
12:15 She would've simply imagined herself in the theater with her friends and warped there.
12:19 She's warped before in the show without a spell.
12:22 A caption lands on Harvey's back, and somehow he loves that.
12:27 I guess Sabrina healed him without even trying because she's so worried about him.
12:32 I have to assume either he thinks he's dreaming or he's playing dumb the whole time,
12:36 and asks what they're talking about just to keep up the illusion.
12:40 He would've heard Sabrina saying a spell in the first place.
12:44 Why does it show up the goal to pretend that just because he's scared, he's also deaf?
12:51 Hilda says she should try to zap Sabrina out.
12:54 Good, they did know what was going on.
12:56 I sadly just have to assume the reason she doesn't do that is because she finds this movie entertaining.
13:02 But it was established earlier that Sabrina somehow can't use magic in the movie.
13:08 It's very dumb.
13:10 Harvey says the music changes with whatever they do.
13:13 How is the movie focusing on them and not the real main characters of it?
13:17 What a kooky spell.
13:19 Maybe it knew Sabrina subconsciously wanted to be a movie star.
13:22 It's satisfying to see The Usher feel freaked out at seeing them on the screen and say he's in control again.
13:28 He should've just assumed they were movie stars all along.
13:31 He wouldn't think that they got into the movie magically.
13:36 Unless he actually watched the movie before.
13:40 So how does the film ever show the audience the real main characters again if he was able to focus on just Sabrina and her friends at all?
13:48 The episode is giving them bad acting to try to entertain us, but I'm just even more bored because of it.
13:54 What's the point of a Sabrina story where she's without magic for most of it?
13:58 Sabrina conveniently causes Zeon to complain about his girlfriend.
14:02 He ends up explaining that he used to be human.
14:04 The story wastes time with two people saying "swell" more than once and he trips on nothing.
14:09 Her dad had every reason to think he wasn't good enough for his daughter.
14:13 As a kid, you hate that character, but as an adult, you realize he's right and that doesn't make him evil.
14:18 Because naturally, a part of growing up is realizing that just because someone's acting harsh doesn't mean they're evil.
14:26 He wanted to look handsome even though that wouldn't keep him from being clumsy again, so he'd have still not been good enough for her.
14:33 So he went to a lab and got a potion poured in his mouth and went into a transformation machine, which would only work because of witchcraft.
14:42 And the pet lobster of the scientists crawled in.
14:45 He's spending so much time on the story of this non-Sabrina character.
14:49 Harvey asks him where he got the spaceship from.
14:52 Sabrina hypocritically says it's not his fault he's in a story with an illogical plot.
14:57 But it could easily be explained what I assumed, that there's multiple aliens and he teamed up with them.
15:04 Or that the mad scientist had the spaceship.
15:08 Somehow the whole audience boos and says the film stinks because Sabrina feels bad for him when anyone would.
15:16 And I'm sure that was how the movie was supposed to be.
15:19 She wants her to reunite with him.
15:21 Somehow people are pushing a giant container.
15:24 Sabrina tells people he's Freddy and no one believes her even though Peggy's hugging him.
15:29 And she's not getting hurt by him.
15:32 People believe Peggy though.
15:34 They just only trust people from their village.
15:37 Sabrina hammers the message home that it doesn't matter what you look like.
15:42 Even though it would if you got mistreated for it.
15:45 So obviously it does matter what he looks like because the entire village was planning to kill him for it.
15:51 And she meant that she'd take off her hat.
15:55 Hilda asks if this plot could be any hokier.
15:58 Lambshitting how the whole show sucks.
16:01 It's sad when one of the best episodes of the show is only that way because it has the excuse that it's a bad movie.
16:07 So it's opposed to that plot holes.
16:09 It turns out Freddy can be returned to normal very easily.
16:13 And Hilda says out loud that she'll return the kids to her.
16:16 Harvey somehow said after this that he was an interactive movie.
16:21 But he should have just said he was dreaming.
16:23 It's out of character that he didn't say that right away.
16:26 Sabrina shows off her new hairdo and everyone applauds.
16:30 The usher expects Sabrina and her friends to clean the floor of a theater.
16:34 I wonder if that's a realistic punishment for them going to see a movie for free.
16:38 They didn't do anything wrong.
16:40 It's not like they could have paid for the movie and so they cheated the theater out of profits.
16:45 What they did bothered them because he's an idiot.
16:48 But you could say a lot of harmless things are evil just because they bother idiots.
16:52 This episode is about Sabrina and her friends wanting to see a movie that got sold out.
16:58 And Chloe pressures Sabrina to warp her back into the theater, even though Harvey's there,
17:02 when obviously the real solution was to brainwash the usher into leaving them alone.
17:07 And Chloe and Sabrina have this whole conversation at full volume.
17:10 And Harvey and the usher don't hear them and prevent the plot.
17:14 While it makes sense that Sabrina saying a spell to send them into a movie would do that,
17:18 in that saying that would have made her imagine it,
17:22 it all falls apart because she said "back" and she never went to inside the movie to begin with.
17:28 She would have said to send them into the room showing the movie,
17:31 and really she wouldn't have even said a spell to warp in the first place.
17:35 At least the plot holes of the movie were justified in-universe because it was supposed to be illogical.
17:41 But first, even the slightest bit of effort from the writer could have justified it properly.
17:46 The mad scientist was a warlock. And he made the spaceship.
17:51 And it's hypocritical of the show.
17:53 While the film could get boring with all the focus on its character,
17:57 Sabrina was never really in danger because the supposed villain was a normal person.
18:02 But the story still demonizes magic because she was scared until she found that out.
18:07 So combine that with it being boring in the movie and it's still a bad episode.
18:12 Especially since seeing something in black and white isn't exactly appealing to look at.
18:17 But it's one of the least bad ones because Sabrina's lack of magic means I'm not always wondering why she doesn't use them.
18:24 But you're throwing the baby out with the bath water at that point.
18:28 There's no way Sabrina would have had no powers in the movie universe.
18:31 It should have instead been written that Sabrina wanted to stay there
18:34 because she thought it would be fun to see the whole movie from inside it.
18:37 And if she had her powers the whole time, she'd have nothing to actually fear.
18:41 If witches couldn't get out of movies just because they warped into them,
18:45 there would be so many young witches that were trapped in movies permanently.
18:50 The Witches Council wouldn't put up with it.
18:52 Kind of the reason why it'd make no sense for witches not to be monitored.
18:56 It's supposed to be that it doesn't matter what you look like.
18:59 But obviously it does matter what you look like
19:02 because an entire town was in uproar and planning to kill somebody because they looked like an alien.
19:08 I guess the lesson was it's what you really like that counts.
19:12 But it doesn't count because nobody would have believed Sabrina about it.
19:17 If it weren't for Sabrina, Peggy wouldn't have found out who the alien was.
19:22 So it wouldn't have mattered that she had a prior relationship with him.
19:26 You can't really compare a new hairstyle to looking so ugly that everybody wants to kill you.
19:34 And it clearly does matter what Sabrina looks like because she got treated differently for it.
19:39 Just in a positive way because people applauded her.
19:42 I guess the real lesson was it doesn't matter if you look like an ugly alien,
19:47 you could still be a good person.
19:49 But Sabrina didn't look ugly.
19:52 And there's a lot of times where she's selfish or outright evil.
