Two people have been taken to hospital after being struck by lightening in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney, yesterday. It is believed that they were tourists from Canada caught in a freak storm near a popular lookout. An NSW Ambulance spokesman said two of the group of three, all in their 20s, were holding a metal railing on a walking track on Echo Point Road about 3:15pm yesterday, when a storm hit the region and a bolt of lightning hit them.

00:00 Tourists have returned to this point in the Blue Mountains Echo Point today.
00:08 The weather's a lot clearer, but that wasn't the case yesterday when a freak storm brought
00:13 wild weather, thunderstorms and lightning to this area.
00:16 We know that four tourists, all in their 20s, believed to be from Canada, were caught in
00:21 that storm at a walking track nearby when lightning struck a metal railing that two
00:26 of those tourists were holding onto.
00:29 We know one of them fell back and hit her head.
00:33 They were able to make their way back up to the visitor centre here at Echo Point near
00:37 the Three Sisters where they received medical attention and were brought to the Blue Mountains
00:43 Hospital.
00:44 We understand their injuries weren't life-threatening, but the Blue Mountains Council Mayor says
00:49 that it's a reminder of what to do when wild weather strikes.
00:53 Our caution is for people to be mindful, to watch the meteorological alerts that come
00:58 from the Bureau, to also look at Council's own website.
01:01 We have alerts and the State Emergency Services.
01:04 Well, it's not the end of what has been a wet and stormy summer season with large storms
01:11 along the east coast and potentially more thunderstorms expected today.
