00:00 Hi I'm Iona May and these are your latest North East headlines.
00:03 Northumbria police have warned that any trouble at this weekend's Tyne Weir Derby will "not
00:08 be tolerated" as Newcastle United is set to play Sunderland for the first time since
00:13 2016. Police have said they plan to take tough action, which includes giving football batting
00:17 orders to troublemakers.
00:19 Next, according to new figures, the number of miles driven each year by buses across
00:24 the region has plummeted by nearly 29 million since 2010. That means the North East has
00:29 experienced a loss of 39 million bus miles over 18 years. Alistair Ford of North East
00:34 Public Transport Users Group said the decline was evidence of a "failure of transport policy"
00:39 over the last four decades.
00:41 Finally, Anyone's Newcastle Restaurant Week is set to return from January 15th until January
00:46 21st. It will see over 100 restaurants across the city take part in offering discounts and
00:51 deals to diners.
