00:00 "Either I can date the mailman or the pool guy or I gotta get out of the house."
00:04 Love Is Blind contestant Renee Poche is suing Netflix and production company Delirium TV.
00:11 According to her lawsuit obtained by E! News, the Season 5 cast member says she "felt like
00:17 a prisoner" and alleges she was set up with a "walking red flag."
00:23 Poche says she got engaged to Carter Wall on the show, but most of their storyline and
00:28 even their wedding was cut from the final episodes, which premiered in September 2023.
00:34 Per the court documents, which allege Wall was "unemployed" with a negative balance in
00:39 his bank account, homeless, violent, estranged from his family and actively addicted to drugs
00:44 and alcohol at the time, "little did Poche know that she would be matched with a walking
00:50 red flag, an individual named Carter Wall."
00:53 The suit continues, "Wall's erratic and alarming behavior and emotional instability became
00:59 glaringly obvious to Poche and the production staff.
01:03 Poche became utterly terrified to be around him and made her misgivings clear to production."
01:09 The veterinarian alleges that the show's production team had "concerns" about her fiancé "warning
01:15 Poche to ensure he did not have access to firearms or other weapons."
01:20 Poche also says DeliriumTV told her she would face legal action if she were to leave Love
01:26 Is Blind or discontinue the engagement.
01:29 Her lawsuit reads, "In this climate of fear and unease, Poche began to spiral physically,
01:35 mentally and emotionally."
01:37 The court documents further allege, "When not filming, Poche was locked in her hotel
01:42 room unable to leave without a cast wrangler accompanying her.
01:46 She was expressly forbidden from interacting not only with other participants but also
01:52 with random hotel guests and staff.
01:54 In some ways, and this is a sentiment shared by many participants, Poche felt like a prisoner."
02:01 Per her lawsuit, Netflix and DeliriumTV accuse Poche of violating her nondisclosure agreement
02:07 by speaking publicly about her experience and are seeking $4 million.
02:12 But she says the NDA is "illegal and unenforceable" and notes that she moved forward with litigation
02:19 to free herself from "all forms of liability."
02:23 E! News has reached out to Wahl, as well as defendants DeliriumTV and Netflix, for comment
02:29 but has not heard back.
02:30 A statement from Poche provided to People reads, "My experience on Love Is Blind was
02:35 traumatic.
02:36 I felt like a prisoner and had no support when I let Delirium know that I didn't feel
02:40 safe.
02:41 I tried to deal with these emotions over time and eventually felt like I needed to share
02:46 what had happened.
02:47 I felt it was only right to let others know the truth of what all the castmates had to
02:51 endure."
02:52 However, regarding a different lawsuit, creator Chris Colen told People in October, "If you
02:58 stay, that is your decision.
03:00 The participants are not under our control.
03:02 They are living their lives.
03:04 We come in, we film them for a period of time, we leave.
03:08 They can leave, as many, many, many people have before, any time they want."
