00:00 It's Dakar day three and January the 6th yesterday is when the three kings visited baby Jesus
00:08 and we have T3 kings and a Dakar holy family, the Gotchows.
00:13 First, second and third yesterday they came here not to visit the baby Jesus but to daily
00:18 please us.
00:24 But it wasn't only the Gotchows who had something of an epiphany on stage one.
00:28 Lots of rocks, I was just maybe reading the road book looking too much and just didn't
00:33 see a rock and fell.
00:39 Not too serious but we're fine.
00:42 Stage was very difficult for the person and the bike.
00:45 I had a problem, a part got detached and then got caught up in the wheel.
01:11 So I went down, I crashed, I don't think anything's broken.
01:17 Things have been going really well up until now but that's how it goes.
01:29 It's only the third stage but so much has happened already it really feels like we're
01:33 way further on in this rally raid.
01:36 Adrien, how are you feeling this morning?
01:42 Like a tenth day, no?
01:46 AVB was 12th out this morning just behind Pablo Quintanilla, both of them 21 minutes
01:51 down on leader Ross Branch overnight.
01:56 We expect a more open, decent race and not so many rockers yesterday so it will be a
02:17 bit of a challenge.
02:45 The Chilean opened with Ricky Brabeck and Ross Branch and took 4 minutes 14 in time
02:49 bonuses on his way to victory and Luciano Benavides just loves these Duodimi dunes.
02:58 Today was more fast, some dunes, more fast piste and I enjoyed much more than yesterday.
03:11 I struggled a bit with the rocks but all in all I'm in good shape and looking forward
03:17 to the next race.
03:20 Second on the day for the world champion on his Husqvarna then.
03:23 The Argentine had lost over 23 minutes yesterday so will be happy to have started clawing that
03:27 time back.
03:28 Rounding out a South American top three, Nacho's spicy compatriot Pablo Quintanilla.
03:33 It's good to start to have this feeling, to get the rhythm.
03:39 The race is super long so problems always we will have but it's important to find the
03:44 right way to continue pushing and in the end we are looking for the final stage to be on
03:51 the podium.
03:53 The man who makes the ladies drool took the rest to school.
03:56 He led the special at the halfway point before battling with Sebastian Buhler to make the
03:59 day's podium.
04:02 It was a disastrous day for Spaniard Lorenzo Santolino.
04:05 His Sherco 450 SEF broke down after just 17k and was beyond repair.
04:11 Meanwhile Mason Klein's Covey also had a mechanical.
04:13 The American's bike only arrived the day before the prologue and it took him nearly two hours
04:18 to get it going again today.
04:25 There were some games out in the sand between Bradley Cox and some of the more experienced
04:29 riders.
04:30 It's fun, we're having a good time, we're switching off.
04:32 We're waiting for Junior over here to take the lead but he doesn't want to.
04:37 No I'm ok just sitting back and watching the three veterans.
04:42 These guys were definitely playing desert cat and mouse and I didn't even know those
04:45 animals lived out there.
04:47 Snakes and ladders tomorrow, twister on Tuesday.
04:49 No route and branch changes overall as Ross hangs on to top spot thanks to 4 minutes 10
04:54 in time bonuses despite finishing 12 minutes down today.
04:57 Four of the five Hondas are in the top 10.
05:00 A Latin Paso Doble in the quads.
05:02 Brazilian Marcelo Medeiros doubled up making it strictly victory for him.
05:06 That keeps him ahead of Jurai Varga and Manuel Andujar overall.
05:23 When you know the second part of the special is for itself with lots of stones and you've
05:26 already had a puncture at kilometre 60 you think damn this isn't going well, especially
05:30 because you punctured without knowing why.
05:39 We are quite happy to finish the stage.
05:42 We lose a time but tomorrow we can win more times.
05:52 After a very rough road yesterday leaving several contenders nursing their wounds and
05:57 their egos, the big boys were back to their best.
06:00 Five time winner Nasser Alatia 12 minutes off the lead after just a couple of stages
06:04 was fourth today.
06:05 He could have won were it not for a mechanical.
06:07 Screeching their way to third, Seth Quintero and Dennis Zents.
06:17 I knew I had Seb in front of me and Nasser right behind me so we're going to have a good
06:20 group pushing and we got right behind Seb, got in his dust, just couldn't get close enough
06:24 to get around him so then we kind of backed it off a little bit.
06:28 In the end we watched a compelling contest between Stephan Pera Hansel's Audi and Sebastian
06:33 Loeb's BRX Prodrive.
06:35 Monsieur Dakar and the boss both suffered yesterday but these two old hands are far
06:39 more at home in the dunes.
06:41 How about these for some unbeatable overhead shots from our choppers of two motorsport
06:46 legends fighting it out.
06:50 We had a good special, there were two or three little navigation mistakes but we quickly
06:58 found our way again and yeah we drove well.
07:02 No punctures, some very small navigation mistakes, nothing serious, it was a good stage.
07:15 After some absorbing action Pera Hansel held on to win by just 29 seconds.
07:20 He tied Ari Vatanen's Dakar record of 50 victories.
07:23 Chapeau Monsieur.
07:26 Behind the top three Saudi star Yaziel Al-Raji looked strong.
07:30 He was as high as second early on but ultimately slipped down to fifth.
07:34 He's second overall though, just 1 minute 51 back.
07:39 It was a quiet stage for the matador Carlos Sainz after finishing second yesterday.
07:43 He was the slowest of the Audis finishing eighth but that's still enough to move him
07:48 top of the class a quarter of the way through the rally and not bad at all for our two T1
07:53 plus Toyota debutants.
07:55 Super Seth is third and Marvellous Demevius fourth.
08:03 The big boys struggled in the dunes today.
08:06 Alberto Herrero, Martin van den Brink here being helped by Dave Ingles crew and it's
08:11 not easy giving over these soft ridges in a 10 ton truck.
08:15 Sometimes you just get turned over.
08:19 But Yannis Van Casteren beat Alish Lopre's home to make it a Team De Roy triple triumph
08:24 meaning he's already equal this tally from last year when of course he won overall.
08:33 Mitch Guthrie had a good run in the challenges today finishing third but if you're a competitor
08:38 in this category then I'm afraid it looks like Gotchow's gotcha even if you're Eric's
08:42 uncle Michael who finished second.
08:44 That's three from three for the youngster and he's still a teenager.
08:48 But instead of skulking around behind the bike sheds the pole and co-driver Oriol Mena
08:52 three peated their victories on days one and two and it's a family affair on the podium
08:57 with Guthrie and Cristina Gutierrez meaning the top five are all driving a Taurus.
09:04 Joao Ferreira was third in the T4s just behind yesterday's winner Xavier de Soultry.
09:09 Rodrigo Varela thought he had a second victory in the Can but a post-stage penalty cancelled
09:14 that as the Can-Am of Gerard Fares makes the Catalan a candidate overall sitting second.
09:20 Scant consolation for the Brazilian who'll bounce back tomorrow if he can.
09:25 Sorry I can't help myself.
09:26 Thanks for joining us again and please like and subscribe.

09:39 or the action the local broadcaster in your country have an hour-long show they'll be
09:43 showing later.
09:44 We'll be back tomorrow for more fun and games in the sandpit playground that is the Dakar.
