00:00 >> You hear what it did make?
00:03 >> It was just like family, everyone's been together for five years on the staff.
00:08 It was just, there was an instant connection when you're talking with
00:12 these coaches.
00:12 It's just like, it's love from all the coaches.
00:15 It's, they care about their players and coach, I remember Coach Norvell,
00:20 we're out there looking around the stadium and Coach Norvell just pops out of his
00:25 office, sees us down there, just screams at us, runs down and he's just talking and
00:31 showing love to everyone and that's just when you have a coach that loves you and
00:36 you can really play for a coach that loves you.
00:40 I did commit, yes sir.
00:41 >> Why is this the place for you?
00:45 >> I think it's just the family orientation.
00:48 We talked more about the love for the players, the off field stuff,
00:53 who you are as a person, the character,
00:56 ten times more than we talked anything related to the field.
00:58 And that's just, when there's coaches that just care more about football and
01:02 it's deeper than football and it's family, that's the place I wanna be.
01:06 >> Spent a lot of time with Odell, what was just like personality wise and
01:11 then two, just how he plans on using you a little bit in this defense?
01:14 >> Yeah, man, Odell, he's a funny dude.
01:16 He's, I love him.
01:18 He's a character, he's got a lot of character and he's, but
01:22 we've had conversations about God.
01:24 We gotta talk about our faith together, which is a huge part of my life.
01:28 Jesus Christ, my savior, is a huge part of my life and
01:31 we gotta have conversations like that.
01:33 And it's just, it's not very often you get to speak with a coach about God.
01:37 And he cares about his family, he's a family man, he's a country man.
01:42 He loves hunting and fishing and I'm right down from the panhandle of
01:46 our South Alabama, that's my lifestyle.
01:48 So, and just kinda where I'm gonna fit in the scheme of the defense,
01:52 I'm gonna be, they have great players here.
01:54 I know that, I'm aware of that walking into it, but it's just about fighting,
01:58 competing, working as hard as I possibly can to beat these guys out,
02:03 build connection with the guys in the room so
02:04 that we can hit the field running and take off this year.
02:07 >> How do you fit into this game, 6-3, 3-3,
02:10 what is it that you bring to that into your defensive line?
02:13 >> Yeah, I'm bringing, I think, I like to say I come in with a high football IQ and
02:18 good leadership.
02:20 I played in a scheme that's a little more loosely with the three tacks and
02:25 two eyes as far as not as gap sound.
02:27 And something I'm gonna have to adjust to a little bit, but
02:30 I think I bring twitch, I have explosiveness.
02:33 I'm gonna bring a sense of leadership.
02:35 I'm engaged right now to my beautiful fiance, Eliana.
02:38 And there's, through having relationship with Christ and
02:43 being engaged in everything, I think I'll bring a sense of maturity and
02:46 leadership and love to this room for these guys.
02:48 >> Did you get a chance to hang out with any of the current players while you're on
02:51 your visit?
02:51 >> I did not, I didn't get to see anybody.
02:53 I got to talk with Braden Fisk a little bit on the phone,
02:56 which is great conversation.
02:57 Just kind of, we had similar transitions.
02:59 He came from Western Michigan, I come from Colorado State, similar level ball,
03:03 similar player type.
03:05 I got to just kind of connect with him about what making that transition's like,
03:11 and the love on the team, and how great of a coach Coach Higgins is.
03:14 And I'm sure we'll get to connect more about just the program in general.
03:18 But so, I think everyone else is at home right now.
03:21 They are taking the vacation they rightfully deserve right now, and
03:27 I think they come back up soon.
03:28 So I didn't get to hang out with any current players.
03:30 >> How much did hearing from Braden, the guy who made the same transition,
03:33 you're about a year ago, kind of ease your mind in the sense of what you're stepping
03:37 into?
03:38 >> Definitely, before I got to talk to him, you're a little on the fence.
03:41 It's a big jump, it's a big transition.
03:43 It's a little uneasy, just it's the unknown of stepping into a bigger program.
03:50 I have full confidence in myself that stepping into a bigger program,
03:54 I'm gonna compete at the highest level.
03:56 But there's always a sense and level of uneasiness.
03:58 And I think I was on the fence a little bit.
04:01 And I think after just hearing and talking to him, and just him telling me,
04:06 you walk in with as much confidence as you can.
04:08 You walk in and you just know you're the best ball player on the field.
04:13 Put your head down, work hard, and things are gonna work out.
04:15 And that was enough for me to just ease everything and
04:19 know that this is the place for me to be.
04:21 >> Brady, you've obviously had your own season going on in Colorado State.
04:25 But just have you followed kind of what FSU's been doing,
04:27 how they're building their program up, and where the program's going?
04:30 >> Sure, yeah, I sure have.
04:31 I mean, it's an upward trajectory.
04:33 Coach Norvell, obviously, he's a great head coach.
04:37 He knows exactly what he's doing.
04:38 He's turning the program around.
04:41 This team is going nowhere but to the National Championship.
04:44 And I can feel that culture the second I walk in the building.
04:47 I can sense that from all the coaches.
04:49 So I keep up, I follow with it.
04:52 So I knew how the program was on the field on game day.
04:55 But learning how the program is outside of game day, I have no doubt in my mind,
05:00 this team's upward trajectory to the National Championship.
05:03 >> So you're going home and really coming right back over to home, then?
05:06 >> I sure am.
05:06 I'm flying down to Denver, packing my bags.
05:09 And I got about a 26, 28-hour drive down, and then get rolling into training.
05:15 >> What's it like to be kind of coming back so close to home and being out here?
05:20 >> It's gonna be great.
05:21 I have a lot of friends that attend the university.
05:24 My mom lives about three hours south near Tampa.
05:28 My fiance's parents live about three hours west in the Navarre, Pensacola area.
05:34 So it's just a great sense of being back in Florida,
05:38 the greatest state in the USA.
05:41 And it's just something about being home, feeling like you're playing at home again.
05:47 It just changes a lot.
05:49 >> As a guy with college football experience, what is it like on a professional
05:52 level, getting a feel for them as a head coach?
05:54 >> Yeah, at Colorado State, I experienced two head coaches.
05:58 They're both great guys.
06:00 They're awesome, but everyone's just a little bit different.
06:03 And you get a sense of who they are as a person.
06:08 You can just tell by how they interact with their kids and their players and
06:11 everything and their families.
06:13 And yeah, so I feel like I was able to have a decent gauge of how the coaches were and
06:19 who they are, and I have nothing but great things to say about Coach McGaugh.
06:23 I think he's an amazing person to coach.
06:25 >> How excited are you to get the ball rolling with offseason conditioning and
06:28 spring practice?
06:29 >> I'm ready.
06:29 If I didn't have to fly up and drive back down,
06:32 I'd be in there training right now.
06:34 I'm ready to get going.
06:35 - Thanks, Brady.
