00:00 How does it feel to be here at the Golden Globes for the first time?
00:02 It feels amazing. We're starting off the year.
00:04 Excitement everywhere.
00:06 Listen, I really love a lot of the stuff that's been coming out.
00:08 I love a lot of people here, so I'm excited.
00:10 What's one movie you saw this year that you especially loved?
00:12 Ooh, well, last year, I'm guessing.
00:16 I know a lot of people are going to give this answer, but I have to give this answer.
00:19 Barbie.
00:20 Like, for me, Barbie was so much more than a movie.
00:22 It was like a moment. It was just so validating for so many reasons.
00:25 I was just like, women. First of all, women. Second of all, women. Third of all, women.
00:28 And I was really proud that finally we really had a moment for women to be like,
00:32 now can't we tour the spot where we're like, it doesn't matter what records are being broken.
00:35 It doesn't matter. It's just the norm.
00:38 This is, I feel like, going to get us there.
00:40 2023 was the year of the Barbie movie and such an amazing year for women and entertainment.
00:45 How do we bring that energy into 2024?
00:48 Listen, I think I'm going to have to get real real here.
00:51 It's easy to talk a lot about representation.
00:53 It's easy to talk about how we want to see different people on screen.
00:56 It's another thing to actually execute against it.
00:57 There's so many studies that have come out talking about what it actually looks like to have representation
01:02 and we're not executing that completely.
01:03 So I think there needs to be more Barbies.
01:05 It can't be the exception, the thing that broke the record.
01:07 Like, I want to see 10 more movies like that, that have women at the forefront,
01:11 have a women director, have complex female characters.
01:14 Like, let's walk the walk. Let's not just talk the talk.
01:16 When you're picking projects, do you keep that at front of mind?
01:20 I do and I won't lie. It's for a gang of reasons.
01:23 Sometimes it's hard. This person doesn't have experience.
01:26 This person doesn't get signed off by the network or by what...
01:29 I think we just need to keep fighting that fight.
01:31 Like, it is not the easiest thing to do because the system was not designed for representation, to be honest.
01:37 It's going to be hard work to break that system down, but it's hard work that we need to do.
01:40 So in my projects, I definitely do. And it's not always easy.
