00:00 Leo, talk to me about the audience.
00:01 Tonight, I saw you go and shake hands and sign autographs
00:03 for every fan that was waiting out there.
00:05 I mean, do you get used to that?
00:07 You know, that kind of fanfare and that kind of love and appreciation?
00:10 Do I get used to it?
00:12 Yeah, it's not a part of my everyday life, but I was actually incredibly surprised
00:17 at the the turnout here.
00:18 Yeah. Palm Springs Film Festival is kind of going off.
00:21 They were really going off.
00:23 I mean, it really is the way they were shouting your name.
00:25 I was like, that was a rock star moment.
00:27 That was a rock star moment.
00:28 Yeah. But what does it mean to be able to bring a story like this to the audience
00:31 and to have it well received?
00:32 It's hard to put into words, to be honest.
00:36 I feel like this was such an incredibly important story to tell.
00:41 I know we went into the process with the with the utmost of care
00:47 and we wanted to listen. That was our job.
00:49 This was a dark chapter of American history,
00:52 and we spent many years to to try to tell this story right.
00:56 And we're very thankful not only to the Osage community
01:00 from bracing us and telling us their story, but for all the actors,
01:04 Lily included, to help shape the entire narrative of this movie,
01:08 because we knew we couldn't tell the story the right way on our own.
01:12 It was our job to to come and listen.
01:15 And that's hopefully what we did.
01:17 I don't know if we accomplished it, but I
01:19 I believe we tried our very best.
01:22 It was an experience that I'll always treasure.
01:25 One of the greatest times in my life.
01:28 Marty, oftentimes these kind of awards are for like an individual recognition.
01:32 But what does it mean to be able to share this moment
01:34 with the cast and crew of your brilliant film?
01:36 Well, every film is, you know, you know, this
01:42 collaboration is a funny word because people think everybody sits in a room
01:46 and do everything according to what everyone agrees upon.
01:49 No, it's very different.
01:52 People give themselves, they give their hearts to the project
01:55 and then suddenly, you know, it all comes together.
01:58 And we're all this of all the pictures.
02:01 This one was really the most that way, because they really
02:03 it really is based on trust. Right.
02:05 But trust between actors I have with Leo and over the years I have with Bob
02:09 is one thing.
02:10 But when you get new people, you know, working with Lily
02:13 and working with Jesse and working with so many of the others.
02:16 The level of of of, you know, belief and trust in each other
02:23 and beyond that, the entire Osage community. Yes.
02:26 That was something once once we had their backing, once they knew
02:29 that we were on the level as best we could be, you know,
02:33 they were with us all the way.
02:36 And it was a grueling shoot, very hard shoot.
02:38 But we all got through it.
02:40 Lily, I have to imagine that's easy to trust Martin Scorsese
02:43 and Leonardo DiCaprio, though, right?
02:44 In that filmmaking process.
02:47 Yeah, it's a matter of trusting yourself.
02:48 I guess you're right. Absolutely.
02:51 Well, a level of fearlessness goes into it, huh? Yeah. Yeah.
02:54 I mean, it was definitely a time to be brave.
02:56 And after spending a bit of time with both of these beautiful human beings
03:00 creating this incredible piece of art, it was
03:04 I kind of lost the time to be nervous or feel any imposter syndrome
03:09 because it was doing them a disservice in the work they were bringing every day.
03:12 I needed I needed to bring I needed to bring as much to the table as they were.
03:15 Didn't she? I mean, you really did.
03:17 I mean, thanks to nights like this, you get to spend more time with them, too.
03:20 So I take you're not tired of either of them yet.
03:22 You're still in hell now.
03:23 While most people were watching Hallmark Christmas movies,
03:25 I was watching Killers of the Flower Moon.
03:27 And I got to tell you, you really you really did the dang thing.
03:29 OK, it was incredible. Congratulations.
03:32 Great to meet you.
