Met Office Weather forecast 10th January 2024
Transcript
00:00 Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning forecast from the Met Office.
00:04 Another bitterly cold start to the day, but with a light wind across central and western areas of Scotland, watch out for some freezing fog patches.
00:12 Further east, in contrast, a keen breeze coming in from the north-east and more cloud.
00:16 That cloud producing some light showers across southern parts of Scotland, northern areas of England where they could fall as snow over the Pennines.
00:23 More cloud also for Northern Ireland, one or two rogue showers towards the far south-east and then we run into clearer skies and a widespread and fairly hard frost anywhere from the Midlands, mid Wales, southwards.
00:36 Very cold start to the day here. At least though you will see some bright weather with some sunshine.
00:41 The wind will be a feature of the weather yet again through today. You can see it's coming in from the north-east.
00:47 So it's going to feel cold in that wind as we head through the morning and into the afternoon.
00:52 This cloud here could be stubborn from time to time. Again, a few fleeting showers moving in from the North Sea and Northern Ireland seeing that cloud break at times.
01:01 Brighter skies for western Scotland through the morning, a similar situation during the afternoon and some brighter weather mid Wales, the Midlands, east Anglia, southwards.
01:10 But again, despite the sunshine, the wind will keep temperatures low. It's going to feel quite icy cold in that breeze.
01:18 So not a lot of change through the afternoon. Again, we could see a few light showers just cropping up across southern Scotland.
01:26 Elsewhere, it's a mostly dry scenario, but the clouds will always be quite thick across the north-east of Scotland, pushing in across the north Midlands, west Midlands through the afternoon as well as mid Wales.
01:36 Here are your temperatures feeling colder than that with the wind.
01:39 Now through this evening and overnight, not a lot of change. We still have that nagging wind coming in from the north-east.
01:47 The frost returns quite readily across central and southern parts of England and Wales and some patchy frost across western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:55 But where the cloud remains, temperatures just about holding up. Even so, it will be a cold night.
02:01 And again, that wind will be a feature of the weather as we head into the early hours of Thursday morning, the cloud breaking up from time to time.
02:09 If you do see some starry skies, temperatures will plummet. It's not going to take much to see a frost.
02:14 So here are your temperatures across the towns and cities. Lower than that across rural spots, leading into yet again a day of sunshine, cloud and sunshine.
02:23 So the cloud will break at times through the day on Thursday, allowing for some brighter weather.
02:28 Always more thicker clouds across eastern counties of England, eastern parts of Scotland.
02:33 And where the clouds thick enough, we will see the odd spot or two of rain.
02:37 But it's a mostly dry scenario, which is good news. But this wind will be relentless.
02:42 Now here's your outlook through Friday. We'll see some sunshine in the north after a frosty start.
02:48 More cloud in the south and temperatures by day still struggling. I'll see you later. Bye bye.
