00:00 The Philippines' performance in PISA from 2018 to 2022 shows that more than 75% of 15-year-old students scored below the minimum level of proficiency in mathematics, reading, and science.
00:14 The President has tasked the Department of Education to continue to take the necessary steps to improve the country's ranking.
00:22 We presented our ways forward to the President because the theme was really how do we improve not only our PISA performance but the overall performance of our learners in basic education.
00:36 The things that the President said that we should really pay attention to in the coming years or in the coming months, weeks, years.
00:45 And that is number one, teaching quality. He really wants our teachers to have expertise so he emphasized on the necessity of proper training programs for our teachers.
00:57 The second is the nutrition aspect because we know that nutrition really affects the performance of our students.
01:06 That's why we looked at the different feeding programs of government including our school-based feeding program.
01:12 And third is bullying. If bullying stays in school because of social media, even when you leave school, there can still be incidents of bullying through the different social media platforms.
01:26 So these are the things that we have already started addressing in the Department of Education but we will continue to strengthen our programs in terms of bullying, of course, in coordination also with other agencies such as the DOH when it comes to the referral system.
